To have or to be? in Philosophy ·
Kenneth Ward8 said:You don't get it at all. It’s like... do you eat to live, or do you live to eat? What you're trying to pull here is basically saying you just live to eat.

To have in order to be.

Do you even see the contradiction in how you're reading what I wrote? Seriously...

Ashley Ramirez41 said:Look, being real here... you only truly "own" what you are and what you actually give to others. Everything else—all that "stuff"—could be snatched away at any second. It's honestly delusional to think you "possess" anything just because you happen to be holding onto it right now.😉

And that’s exactly why capitalism hasn't collapsed yet while communism totally tanked. It doesn't ignore that one basic, raw truth: the animalistic human urge to own things. That craving for power just to make sure you survive... it's built in.

Kenneth Ward8 said:So, what you're saying is we need to possess things just to exist? That’s how it sounds. "Having so that you can be." Like you're trying to tell me that material stuff comes before existence itself. Like having is more important because without it, you can't even function—not just important, but a total prerequisite for being alive.

Ugh, please... I honestly can't think of a single thing that proves your logic even makes sense... Like, what exactly do you need to HAVE just so you can BE? Because from where I'm sitting, it's the exact opposite—you have to EXIST before you can even claim to own anything. Being comes way before having. You can't own a damn thing if you aren't here first. So, kid, your logic is totally backwards! 😉

Look, to actually exist, you gotta have food, air, water, a roof over your head, clothes to stay warm, security, and all that other stuff. Without those basics, you don't even get to be.

Look, Sinko, don't even sweat it. The free market will spit out guys like that eventually. People actually need people like you, and the public sure as hell will reward you accordingly.

We aren't talking about some group of crappy idealists here. This is just basic damn common sense. Something any sane person should get pretty easily...

dustyscout53 said:You seriously think you should be locking people up just because their business numbers are tanking? Honestly... you're spot on. That’s got nothing to do with any political ideology... none at all. 😁 😁
And if their company goes bankrupt? Forget it... we’re coming for them AND their whole damn family... lock 'em all up... 😁 😁 😛
It’s basically just communism all over again... you look at China and then you see this whole mess with rice yields and whatever else they're throwing at us... it's all the same pattern...

Oh man, dustyscout53... I told you a long time ago that this lifestyle just isn't for you, forget about all that political nonsense. Seriously, not everyone is cut out for this kind of grind... 🙂

This has zero to do with being a communist, kid. It's about protecting the interests of the United States.

goldengull3 said:That's the thing... You kill nepotism in companies by privatizing them. Once a private boss takes over, who they hire is their business. Their call. And their wallet.

What we’re actually aiming for is building a government structure so solid and transparent that even the biggest Fortune 500 company would be proud to be associated with it. We're talking about a state that functions like an autopoietic organization—something way more complex and self-sustaining than any single corporation could ever dream of being.

Once we finally nail that kind of system, it's totally possible the government will end up absorbing all those public sector roles under its own umbrella...

In this country, you go to prison for treason. And framing a bad hire? That’s basically a specific type of betraying the national interest.

Terry Castillo82 said:We need a total overhaul of the mindset and value system most Americans carry. As long as people only care about themselves and making sure their own family gets every handout possible while everyone else struggles, nepotism is never going away.

Real democracy doesn't even exist—it’s just different versions of it.

Don't be an idiot. It's totally normal for you to put yourself first. BTW, who *is* actually at the top of your priority list? What's your actual drive? Is it just the idea of making your own life better?

And regarding "real" democracy... just because it's an ideal we can't fully reach doesn't mean we should stop fighting for it.

This is a total disgrace. It’s just gonna drag us down further... Not until we actually establish a real democracy where lobbyists can't just play games and leech off the entire country.

Anyway, just getting a "new" political elite isn't enough. We need a completely different kind of leadership. An elite that, even before stepping foot in office, decides to walk away from any outside interests and focus solely on the common good.
Dealing with schizophrenia episodes? in Health ·
That’s clearly an epileptic seizure. You can tell by the foaming at the mouth. Seriously, that’s where we get the whole expression "acting like a foaming idiot" from... it describes that exact state, just in a slightly milder way that pops up all the time when things go south.

So how do you treat epilepsy? Easy. Just swallow your spit during the seizure so you don't start foaming. 😁
Let's vote for a Psychology subforum! in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Look, what I’m asking from you wise guys running this forum, and even the big shots upstairs, is to actually listen to what most people here want—and honestly, even those who haven't realized yet how much they're gonna love it. Just open a new subforum called

"The Individual and Society"

If you look closely, you'll see this isn't just some dry social science thing. It's like how you don't go to a lumberyard to talk about physics, or hit up a political rally to discuss sociology.

I'm telling you right now, standard social sciences aren't gonna cut it for what we actually need on this forum.

Thanks.

So, some random damn thought just popped into my head yesterday. And then what? Should I just dump it in some random section? This whole shitty forum is split into a million pieces—you've got relationship stuff, single life, women's corner, men's corner, social sciences, whatever... it's everywhere.

And yet, we still don't have a dedicated Psychology subforum. Seriously, what the hell? We need psychology here as much as the ground needs water. Or like, as much as the sun needs to shine.
Kill Bill Vol. 1 in Movies ·
boldeagle3 said:Watching this on Christmas Day just to brighten up the mood...😁
The movie is awesome for all these reasons:
1. It's just a killer movie (period)
2. The soundtrack is freaking AMAZING
3. Hot women who fight better than any guy out there
4. Sword fights
5. Uma...

If someone thinks a movie is good just because of those little bits, then fine, they'll think it's good.

But let's be real, this is heavy commercial trash. Just playing into the fetishes of today's youth. Famous names that are totally played out artistically.

Man, what you said about Tarantino's life really explains how he approaches filmmaking and why his first two movies were so damn incredible. Because anything else? Those are just side projects in Tarantino's entire filmography. We can thank him for that. Now we can stop being bored by his newer stuff. Because that's it. Done. Kill Bill told us everything we need to know...
Also, Matthew Morris28.

Maybe you’re just spending way too much time hunched over your desk or stuck in these mindless little routines that make you feel safe, even though they're clearly messing with how you deal with people... and honestly, looking at the signs, it's becoming a real issue.

So yeah, get real with yourself. 👍
Joseph Jones85 said:The stigma is definitely part of it, but there’s more to the story: people just don't recognize the symptoms, or they brush them off thinking it's not "serious enough" to actually go see a doctor.

There are two other massive issues here. You've got the sheer incompetence of the people dreaming up these illnesses, plus the folks who are supposed to be diagnosing them. Way too much room for error... just total guesswork.

And don't even get me started on the psych meds. The whole thing is sketchy as hell. Everyone knows the side effects are insane. Sure, maybe you can rebalance some neurological stuff, but the underlying disorder? Still there.

So, we aren't talking about a cure, we're talking about masking the symptoms. I'm sticking to my guns on this one: psychiatry needs a complete freaking revolution.

PS. When should you take them? Only in acute crises. If you're dealing with a chronic mood issue, those pills are just gonna let you down. That's why I'm telling you, Matthew Morris28... first, get some discipline together and start fighting back at life. Go grab some small wins. Don't be ashamed of being bad at things. We're all losers at something. Peace out!

Wait, what was I saying?

Oh, right. One idea I've been trying to push through this thread is the whole thing about racial distinctions between dreams and reality. Is there any patient out there who actually deals with that kind of stuff?

Or maybe someone else has a better idea on how to help someone dealing with schizophrenia or other mental health struggles who might have lost their way?

I just don't want us to end up talking in circles again without any direction, especially when there are things here we could actually turn into something pretty constructive. Like, seriously constructive... enough to actually help people. And I don't just mean people on this Reddit thread.

Anyway.

Thomas Mendoza5 said:Look, part of the brain belongs to us, but the massive majority is just hidden away from us, and there's so much tucked away in there...

I see consciousness like the tip of an iceberg. The iceberg is everything. Consciousness is just what’s visible. It's the product of the whole damn mass. But honestly, I don't think there's one specific region in the brain responsible for being conscious. It feels more like a different, physiological dimension. Maybe I'm wrong though...
and maybe as a person slowly drifts into their subconscious, uncovering its secrets, they simultaneously exit consciousness... like a train in a tunnel—the deeper it goes, the less "outside" there is...

There's a difference between being aware and getting high. The more aware you are, the easier it is to trip out, and the weight gets harder to carry. But you get offered more. It's all about finding that sweet spot, the optimum...
hallucinations, meditation, all those different religions—people have been trying for ages to prove there's this thin line where things are either pure madness or total enlightenment... so, maybe it's both...

A lot of people think they've reached enlightenment when they actually just lose their minds. I've had that sensation myself. I believe it's a psychological phenomenon tied to the raw flow of neural movement. That's how I wrap my head around it. But that flow can happen for a million different reasons. The key is making sure that flow connects back to reality, otherwise you're just losing it. It's heavy stuff, and you can go totally off the rails if you aren't anchored to the truth. I live by the concept of the truth because it keeps me plugged into the rest of the system. If I wasn't focused on the truth, I'd probably be tripping out in some weird alternate universe...
leaving consciousness behind to enter the subconscious, leaving the world you know to step into the total unknown—isn't the logical result of that overlap complete disorientation?

I'm pretty much on board with that. Because I think it's about a visible weakening of the filters that let us function. BTW, once you figure out how to manipulate those filters, whether you mean to or not, things can get nasty. You can lose yourself in a heartbeat...
and once you dive fully into the subconscious, once you leave consciousness behind—how can anyone even know what you found in there... maybe autism is just stumbling into some part of the brain that's so intense, so lush, so intelligent, and so perfect that you simply don't want to come back out...

I think it's a loop that offers a sense of proven security. I forget which part of the brain is often damaged in autistic people. But the outcome is obvious 😁.
just imagine if you could just teleport to any freaking corner of our galaxy... and that’s just one of those parapsychological powers that people claim aren't even sci-fi anymore, but actual facts being kept hidden from us...

Good thing you didn't let your filters slip. If you had, you would've been banned ages ago 🙂. So, back to reality, man. In fantasy, anything is possible—except for actually finding happiness or satisfaction.
