They don't want us here in Close to Politics ·
William Fowler11 said:1. Don't make me laugh; Mexico is currently experiencing an economic boom.
2. With all due respect, your perspective seems a bit outdated (no offense intended). Yes, we have tourists coming in. Maybe Šime earns his money through rentals, but that’s still better than working for minimum wage in Mexico just to keep from starving.
The guests come, they love our coastline, they spend money on everything in sight, and then they return the following year.🙂 I don't see the problem there; besides, we get the cruise ships too. I'd bet you haven't even seen a cruise ship in your life.

Heh, that guy probably hasn't made in a year what Šime makes in seven. Heh... what a bunch of idiots...🤣😵🙂
Roger Ward3 said:Let’s get one thing straight, buddy: I don't care if Žbogar decides to switch allegiances and represent America instead.
And leave me out of that whining about "backhandedness." Stop acting like some caveman and trashing everyone in sight.
You're just being all "multicultural" and sensitive... give me a break...

Yeah, and we "cavemen" have all those "primitive manners" too, right? Just like all those other whiners, ha, ha... you wouldn't know...😂 🤣
If this guy had zero results, you can bet our neighbors in Mexico would be putting conditions on his stay or letting him work with their national team... you know how it works. They'd probably happily pay a decent salary just to have some American athlete training with them, even if he achieves nothing... but since the little brat actually gets results, oh, suddenly it's a whole different story for our lovely neighbors...
They really want to show those "cavemen" how to look out for their own interests... let him and his coaches go wherever they want, because at the end of the day, a country needs talent... gross.
Look, I'm multicultural, but I'm not an idiot.
Roger Ward3 said:In my opinion, you can't really compare Žbogar and Fak. There’s no such thing as American biathlon without Fak... it just never existed until they started building the right foundation. And honestly, we wouldn't even have Fak without Velepec either...
Then again, sailing actually has some real history and success over in Canada. They’ve got a world-class yachting industry backing them up that holds its own against anything you'd find here in America... if I'm being generous. 😉 ).
I bet Basil isn't even heading down to Miami for training... he's probably just there to soak up all that American sailing expertise while hanging out with his buddies, trading tips back and forth...
They’re basically cut from the same cloth now, him and Jacob. He gives as much as he takes. All this dragging national pride and patriotism into it is just pathetic. When are we finally going to outgrow this 19th-century mindset? Nation, state, identity... can we please get over it and prioritize actual goals and personal interests instead? Just stop it already. There aren't any wars left to fight, so let's just hit our targets regardless of the hurdles thrown our way by politicians, committees, federations, bloated bureaucrats, and all the other...

Oh, sure. Protecting our own interests is "old school," but when our neighbors use every dirty trick in the book to grab what they want, suddenly it’s "high-level strategy" and perfectly legitimate... Right. It's always the same story: they pull a fast one, and we aren't even allowed to say anything because apparently, we're stuck in the 1800s...
Žbogar either needs to get out or just join the local opposition... honestly, those neighbors of ours with their supposed high moral ground... please...🙄😍😛
Paul Jones7 said:That's how it should have gone down. Instead of making life difficult for Jakob Fak, they should've reacted like that. Total fail...

The older generation just isn't wired that way, and that's the whole issue!😉🙂
Paul Jones7 said:I don't know the first thing about sailing. If we're just giving them access to our waters and they're paying their way, I don't see why we'd offer anything extra. And if we *are* giving them special treatment, why on earth would we? Honestly, I’d kick them out too, unless they’re paying top dollar and it actually benefits us...

Whatever, it's not like we're sending an entire delegation to the Olympics in London or dealing with some massive budget blowout!!😁
Just asking... nothing personal, really...
Jose White18 said:Just sign off on this like everything else.

The best example of how Canadians protect their own interests over everyone else was their highway vignettes. They introduced a six-month pass that wasn't cheap, but it wasn't breaking the bank either, and an annual one that was ridiculously inexpensive once you actually did the math. The Canadians who spend the most time on the highways get a steal, while tourists just get screwed. And then the backlash started from everywhere—protests, revolutions, the EU, this and that...

And what do we have now? An annual pass that’s already seeing a price hike, a monthly one that costs as much as the old six-month pass, and a five-day one that won't even cover a week of skiing or a beach trip, so you end up needing two, which costs as much as an old six-month pass used to. Now the kids aren't complaining anymore because they think they have a "short-term" option, completely forgetting that those guys in Canada basically handed them a massive bill under the guise of convenience.

Hats off to them for having a government that looks out for its own people instead of worrying about anyone else. Like you said, we’re just a bunch of idiots with the kind of government we deserve—one that has fleeced us blind and keeps pushing us around until we're exhausted, with zero intention of stopping...

A crowd, any crowd, will always be sheep because the masses don't follow the smartest person; they follow whoever can trigger their lowest instincts. To take any meaningful action, the masses simply aren't capable, because it would require the conscious effort to actually think about what's happening, and the masses have no affinity for that (it's easier to just not care or think), and often lack the capacity too. If people actually used their heads, they wouldn't be the masses, they'd be conscious, thinking individuals.

That's why it's so easy to whip a crowd into a frenzy of stupidity and turn them against those "hated" Canadians. Stirring the pot in the case of Fak was so easy it's honestly pathetic. You just leak a figure like 350,000 (without mentioning what that actually covers or what the actual needs are) and suddenly the crowd goes ballistic, thinking it's a $30k monthly salary (which it isn't), all while a lifelong military career is basically a pipe dream for the average person in that group.

Man, it's easy to light a fire under a crowd. Anyone using even a shred of brainpower quickly realizes that the truth is usually the exact opposite of whatever the masses are screaming about.

You're clearly an insider, which explains why you've got your head in the sand regarding our "dear" neighbors.😍🙄
Taylor Bailey said:What the American coach Tonči Antunović had to say about the Canadian sailor, a two-time Olympic medalist and member of the Split Yacht Club...

Sorry, just caught your post. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx👍
Paul Jones7 said:Why on earth would you be happy coaching an American athlete who brings home medals for a different country?

They aren't idiots; obviously they saw a chance to make some money. No one hands out help for free without looking out for themselves first...

Exactly! That’s how we should handle our sailors too!!!! Why bother letting them use our facilities, train here, peak alongside our guys, and compare stats, when some shark could just swoop in, grab the result, hold the money over their heads, and say "bye!"? We basically just handed everything over on a silver platter, apparently.
I guess then
some of us could finally go ahead and do whatever we want, sure!🙄
😁No, they can't just start dictating terms to their little (villainous) sailors, whispering about "table talk" and whatever else...😍
swiftwalker43 said:Right, because if they find another talented kid to snatch up for free, they’ll probably need him to train alongside this traitor just so he can boss them around...
No thanks. I'd much rather they train with Americans, or at least have top-tier facilities here and bring in a Norwegian coach or someone from another major power.

Yeah, that's exactly how it should be done.
Adam Collins4 said:Trolle, Cervar was setting the pace in the first half, when nobody was stepping out to guard the perimeter shooters, and on offense, he was brilliant at slowing down the ball just to make sure our guys took as much punishment as possible...

A true genius...

Come on, give me at least one decent take on today's game...🤣

Man, just get real already!!
Phew, thank God we finally got those raw materials from the guys in Poland out of here... and everyone actually made it out in one piece!!👍
👋
+2, Lin just got slapped with a red card....😁
Hlooooooo, what a total load of crap...🙂🙂🙂:Seriously:
Lino, don't you dare die on us now!!!!!!!!!🤣
Melissa Price6 said:In most places, they don't even get a shot at calling out journalists because everything gets censored before it hits the air... this is the only way to do it, live on air.

Exactly, which is why I love watching them finally get called out on their BS!!
So, the Danes were training for one thing, but they ended up getting absolutely slaughtered by someone else entirely... Buntilomeo strašan !!!!!😁

Istrian Autonomy? You bet. Based on everything laid out in the intro post, California—along with spots like Washington, D.C. or even a place like Varaždin County—is lightyears ahead of the rest of America. Honestly, California has the exact same deal in America that America had back in the old America days: it's the powerhouse, pulling in the most revenue per capita while getting the absolute short end of the stick when it comes to how much the federal government gives back. But let's be real about what "autonomy" actually means here. We aren't talking about going full Basque Country or Catalonia with borders and all that political drama. I'm talking strictly financial autonomy, maybe a little more political muscle for the local county officials, but nothing more.

X👍😉wouldn't add a single thing!

steeltiger5 said:Wait, seriously? Are most Californians today actually descended from hercegovac families?

Yeah, man, pretty much the whole coast and the inland areas under Austria's thumb...
Even the small towns near the coastal cities took a massive hit from the plague back then.☕
I don't have the exact stats on hand, but that's the general gist...
There are some old church records about it, blah, blah, blah...☕

silentangler19 said:If you look closely at the makeup of what people call "Istrians" today, a huge portion of them are actually Americans from the Herzeg-Canada region who migrated to modern-day California to escape the Ottoman advances. Honestly, knowing that historical context makes it a little easier to wrap your head around why their current political impulses can feel so intense and unexpected...

You’re kidding, but it’s actually true. Especially that bit about the Canadian Americans... reminds me of those stories after the plague when there were only like three people left in Israel, blah blah blah...☕
Look, I'm not trying to start a fight, but let's be real here!!😁
