What do Americans think about Russians? in Miscellaneous ·
frozenbison42 said:So, okay, I want to ask—again, in the same vein—looking at Eastern Europe, even if we have to look past those high border walls... what do Americans think about my compatriots?

And I'm not just talking about romantic attractions here, but rather everything outside of what people in the North America usually call "politics." What’s the general vibe regarding Russians for those who actually know them? What do you all think about Russians?

Not much of anything good😉Honestly, most of what they had was burned down by Europeans🤷 It's a massive nation with a bit of a "small nation" complex🤷 plus there's Moscow's heavy-handed policy (and why wouldn't they just let the republics that make up Russia be independent?). Because Russia doesn't really exist as a unified state; it's more like an artificial construct from some century long ago when some guy in Moscow decided to conquer other groups of people who hadn't even developed their own nations yet.
Basically, you might visit Saint Petersburg as a tourist, but beyond that, there isn't much.🤷
Casey Ramos78 said:I’ve actually made some huge strides with my confidence over the last couple of years—like, I care way less about what people think now, even if I still struggle with it occasionally. But then, out of nowhere, something happens that just nukes my self-esteem. Someone told me this year (well, not to my face, but you get it) that they think I'm an idiot. Now? I can't stop obsessing over it. Every time I'm around them, I'm desperately trying to act smart, but it's just not working. I feel like a total moron whenever we hang out, which is weird because I don't feel this way with anyone else. It's just this one person, yet it makes me question if I actually *am* stupid in general, and honestly, my confidence is back in the gutter. My old insecurities are just resurfacing big time. Am I actually dumb or what? And how am I supposed to prove to them that I'm not? ... Just a million questions spinning in my head.

Ah...
I honestly don't know what to tell you. I went through something very similar, though it was with certain family members.😢
Everyone deals with some version of that ego/superiority complex stuff.🙄
In my case, nobody ever explicitly called me stupid, but I could always tell by the way they treated me—like they were constantly trying to push me into a corner.
My own shyness played a big part in it too, because my family members are all totally fearless. They’re the type who would sing, dance, or walk around naked in front of 500 people without blinking, whereas I’m just not built that way.
On top of that, they’re the kind of people who won't tolerate any opinion that contradicts their own (you know the drill: "you're too young," "you don't know anything," "you need to grow up," etc.), so we'd end up clashing over the most trivial things.
To me, a college degree isn't some ultimate proof of intelligence; it's more about persistence. But with them, they see it differently (by the way, none of them even finished college), and they spout all sorts of nonsense like that.
Believe me, you'll get past this.👍
Bad posture: How to fix it? in Health ·
So, I’ve run into a bit of a situation. A few days ago, while I was just scratching my back, 🙄 I noticed this weird thickening right at the top of my spine—basically just a little bit below where the hairline starts, if that makes sense. 🤷
There isn't anything visible on the surface or anything, but you can definitely feel it under your fingers. 😢
Now, I’m really wondering... could this be the very beginning of a hunchback, or am I looking at something else entirely?

They actually kicked me out of their office just because I turned down a specific type of treatment they were pushing.

I honestly don't know where I'd be without my pirated Windows... and don't even get me started on how much I'm saving on Photoshop🙏🙏
If I actually had to pay full price for those just twice a month, I'd be $1667😲broke as hell, no joke☕
Where did they go? in Music ·
I don't know if I'd call Spa total garbage... honestly, a lot of their stuff actually sounds pretty good to me🤷
They might not be considered "modern classics" just yet, but they aren't nearly as bad as everyone makes them out to be.
Where did they go? in Music ·
I was falling down a bit of a YouTube rabbit hole earlier and stumbled upon some old clips from artists who were once considered the next big thing in the American music scene. It really makes you wonder if anyone else remembers the early days of Teens, or how they evolved when they went solo—like Claudia and Daniel Benia. Then there was Tina and Nick, Mia, and Ivana Plehinger...
It’s actually kind of sad; after all that hype, most of them just sort of faded into the background because of relentless, high-brow critics who seemed more interested in tearing them down than appreciating the talent.

When you come across their old tracks today, what goes through your mind? Do you still feel that spark, or have they become just another footnote in music history?

Honestly, it’s not even like that atomic theory is some impossible, unreachable dream...
It just looks that way from where we're standing.

Well, RIP to that cake then.🤣 🤣 🤣
Just kidding, just kidding!😁
But is this more what you had in mind?

I’ve been thinking about it lately—about whether I should aim for blurry, half-baked whims or those completely impossible, grand delusions. If we're talking about the impossible stuff? Honestly, I’d love to just rule the entire world. 👍
But if we’re talking about those small, hazy, perfectly reasonable desires... then I just want to wander into the local mall wearing my pajamas and slippers. 🙂

placidjackal36 said:Good afternoon! I’d like to order a wedding cake—just three words, really.
-Oh, okay! Could you give me a few more details on what you're looking for?
Can the little figurines on top be edible?
-Well, we can certainly try to make that happen, yes. Anything else?
Could you put a giant ant behind them, maybe making it look like they're... terrified of it?
-... Well... we've actually never had an order quite like that before, but... we could probably do it... :whispers to colleague:
Add some of those tiny edible flowers too, and some silver pearls.
-Alright... Any other special requests? Maybe some squid ink to give the sponge a unique color?
No, no, regular sponge is just fine. Only one thing... fill it with oranges. I love oranges.
-Ah, I see... Got it... :whispers while stifling a laugh:
I think that covers it.
-OK, I just need to know when you'll need it.
Anytime before midnight works. I just picked up three liters of Coke, so I'm planning on catching a marathon of 1950s sci-fi B-movies on TV. My place is the third house on the left. I just hope this stuff isn't as warm as the ones I grabbed at the gas station.

🤣🤣🤣

So, does anyone else have one?
I’ve been thinking about ordering a massive wedding cake just for the heck of it—you know, maybe for a fancy dinner party or something—but then I start thinking, wouldn't people give me some pretty weird looks if I showed up with a tiered masterpiece just for a random Tuesday night?🤣🤣

Can someone please walk me through this? Where on earth does this weird obsession with using Cyrillic in titles come from? Are we hanging out on some North American history forum or something?
So, here’s the situation: I’ve got some loose change sitting in my coin jar—maybe about 50 bucks or so—and I was wondering how I can actually turn that into paper bills? Or, if it's even possible, could I just deposit it directly into a foreign currency savings account?🤷
I'm working with JPMorgan Chase here. Thanks in advance for any help!👍
bluerider63 said:It’s all just a massive word game, and honestly, it’s no coincidence that a track with a title like that managed to snag the win in Georgia. Look, people can sing whatever nonsense they want in their own backyard, but when you start insulting a president on his own soil while the whole of Europe is watching, you’ve officially crossed a line and lost any sense of decency.
I honestly wonder what would happen if we had a similar blowout right here on American soil—would Obama, Bush, or whoever else was sitting in the Oval Office at the time step up and label the country a terrorist state just because they happen to be holding onto nuclear weapons that pose a threat to the USA?

My friend, American presidents are arguably the most insulted people on the planet, and primarily by their own citizens before anyone else.
You want to know what would happen in America? Absolutely nothing! There might be some noise in the newspapers, and some people might even agree with the song, but what would official Washington actually do? Nothing.

What you're saying sounds like pure nationalist nonsense. As the host of the Eurovision Song Contest, Russia should have anticipated this; they should have been prepared to face criticism regarding their policies toward certain countries.
Who is Vladimir Putin that he shouldn't be criticized? Honestly, I’m just waiting for the moment those White Widows pull some kind of stunt involving Vladimir Putin.
The Eurovision Song Contest isn't a Russian competition; it's international. By that logic, the songs performed at this contest should serve as a way to stand up against attacks on artistic freedom.
And look, it might be acceptable to criticize Russians as a nation, but here we are mocking one specific individual who apparently thinks he's some kind of Holy Cow.
ambermason16 said:Umm... I'm taking a risk here by sounding naive, but has anyone actually confirmed if those performers were truly trying to take a swipe at Joe Biden?

I’ll admit it hits a nerve, and it’s most likely some half-baked attempt at a provocation, but could it honestly just be a coincidence?

Again, I'm not making claims... I'm asking questions. I haven't heard anything about this specific situation until now. 🤷

edit: oh, okay, I see now that Luka mentioned they actually "admitted" it.

And honestly—the ban is just stupid. If they had sung something like "Let's nail Joe Biden to a stake and play soccer with his head," then fine, people would get it. But this? Half of our poor, uneducated population won't even understand what they're singing, let alone catch some hidden subtext. It's a provocation, sure, but a totally harmless one.

They didn't exactly come out and admit it, but let's be honest—calling that song anything other than a provocation given its title would just be silly. Still, the Americans should have probably stood their ground and insisted that this wasn't about being provocative at all, but rather a pure expression of artistic freedom. Wouldn't that have been a smarter move?
Robert Ross8 said:I mean, by the time Eurovision rolls around, Vladimir Putin will probably be out of power anyway😳, so what’s the big deal!

Oil is sitting at $45, which means they can't just keep patching up that rotten, forced Russian society solely by pumping oil—they actually need to start building something real. But hey, Big Boss Putin obviously doesn't get that, since he's too busy staring at everything through those old CIA lenses

I hope you're right, because I truly want that to be true.🙂🙂
