Maybe try doing a quick Google search for parasitic twins? ☕
northerncrane4 said:Those fractions don't work for me. That first 2/3 is just a slog, totally mediocre, and honestly, only the final 1/3 actually gets interesting. I mean, using a boring 2/3 buildup as an "innovative" move? Yeah, definitely not in a good way..
SPOILER ALERT!!! Personally, those first two thirds felt pretty intriguing and mysterious to me 🤷 and that's exactly why they worked for me
because if I'm being real, I didn't have the slightest clue the story was going to pivot like that 🤷 and pulling that off is actually kind of a feat. Especially for a movie like this.
northerncrane4 said:Did you even bother reading my whole post? Seriously. Like I said, the first two-thirds are just a total snooze fest. There’s zero creativity there, unless you count that one flashy high-angle tracking shot, but that's about it. The final third actually picks up, but it’s got this weird, trashy vibe—honestly, I can't tell if the director meant for it to go down that path or if he just completely lost the plot.
Look, you're clearly too much of a seasoned pro to miss the point here. That first third is basically a massive setup. It's designed to be "boring" specifically so it acts as a counterweight to the absolute madness in the other two-thirds.
I'm telling you, that big payoff you're raving about wouldn't hit nearly as hard if they hadn't spent that first chunk of the movie dragging its feet.
I don't know, man. It feels a little too harsh to call a movie "boring" when it’s actually this inventive—both technically and conceptually. Maybe you just aren't feeling the genre or the subject matter, but whatever.
If we were talking about some massive industry-shifting blockbuster, I might get why someone would tear apart all that hard work, but doing it here? It feels a bit pretentious to me. Like, you're looking down your nose at it without having any real ground to stand on.
Honestly, this single flick has more creative effort, vision, and actual execution packed into it than our entire annual US film output combined—and I'm not even counting the budget. I'll stand by that.☕
I mean, right from the jump, something felt totally off when that little geek in the cage started muttering, "I'm not like this... I'm not like this..." You could just feel it. Then the breadcrumbs started piling up, one after another... but honestly? It still caught me off guard at the end. I really didn't want it to go down like that... despite everything
I don't know, man... I’m stuck on this one thing again. It’s just eating at me. That guy playing Bradley? He is way too big of a talent to be ending up like this. It's just wrong.
Look, if someone’s got that kind of crooked soul—someone who’s just hungry for the green, purely driven by greed—well, they could easily play the game. I mean, if he’s as sharp as he looks, and let's face it, he’s probably a master manipulator, he could just charm his way into some wealthy widow's life. And honestly? America is crawling with them. He could just latch onto one of those ladies, live the high life, and spend the rest of his days coasting on her dime without ever lifting a finger. It's a classic move. 🤷
What is he even doing? Seriously, man... he’s just making his own life a total nightmare for no damn reason. Why go out of your way to make things that difficult? It's like watching someone trip over their own feet on purpose. Just stop complicating everything, for crying out loud.
I don't know, man... I'm just saying, his whole trajectory feels a little forced to me. It's like they're trying way too hard to make it happen, you know? Like when a studio tries to force a sequel that nobody asked for just because they want to chase a trend—it feels artificial, totally scripted. There’s just something about the way he’s moving that feels off, like it's all being pushed by some behind-the-scenes agenda rather than actually happening naturally. It's just a bit much.
Ugh, just finished watching it, and man, it really lives up to the name Nightmare Alley. Honestly, one of the darkest, most twisted high-budget flicks I’ve seen in a minute. I don't know, my head is spinning a bit—it’s a total mess of feelings, swinging from absolute genius to stuff that feels just plain tasteless. Still, 👍 because we're talking about a massive film buff here. Maybe he gets a little carried away with his vision, totally unintentional, but hey, who can really fault an artist for being extra? Not me.
Rewatched this after seeing those last few posts floating around. I actually saw it way back when it first hit theaters, and it left such a good impression on me—I always had this nagging feeling I’d eventually circle back to it.
It's wild that Eyes Wide Shut and The Ninth Gate both dropped in the same year, 1999, And those nines? If you flip them around, you get three 666s 🙄
Setting aside all that heavy symbolism, the movie itself is killer. It’s exactly my kind of flick, and Polanski is just untouchable at this. That sense of mystery and those tiny, subtle details he weaves in... man, they're absolute treats.
Depp was still totally sane back then, and he absolutely nails the role. Honestly, the whole cast is spot on. The women have that classy, effortless allure—super sexy, but in a way that stays visually tasteful. And the North America vibe definitely worked too.
SPOILER ALERT!!! I don't know, I kind of figured that the two of them and their shared "journey" (which peaks with that sex climax) was basically the final puzzle piece needed to swing open The Ninth Gate. Someone online put it perfectly: she's essentially Lucifer's guide or channel. The whole thing in the North America was just a pit stop used to trigger the main event. Maybe even some kind of rebirth.
Because let's face it, sex and lust are some of Lucifer's primary tools—it's a trap that almost nobody escapes.
ruggedtrucker3 said:I mean, yeah, Leon Kennedy actually gets a real character arc later on in the other games, so it feels a little half-baked seeing him written like this right now, but whatever.
If a game is actually well-made, the characters matter just as much as the gameplay. That’s just how it is.
I mean, look at Metal Gear Solid. That protagonist? Total badass. Solid Snake was such a legendary character.
In this one, everything basically boils down to blasting zombies and solving some puzzles, which is what I found cool about the game. But honestly? That’s the last thing I want to sit through in a movie.🤷
ruggedtrucker3 said:Look, man, you're totally missing the mark here. You completely missed the whole point and the actual vibe of the game.
Honestly, you can't even fix that, and there's really no point in trying. It drives me crazy seeing Leon Kennedy written like some total idiot. If you've actually played RE2 or any of the other games, you're probably sitting there thinking, "WTF?" But even putting that aside, they completely missed the mark on the vibe. This game is supposed to be a mood-setting horror, and they just totally botched it.
The game just hits different. It’s got this depth that a movie could never touch. Like, the whole point is being in there, hunting for clues and piecing together solutions yourself—you can't really capture that vibe on screen, and honestly, you wouldn't want to try. To me, those movies aren't even really Resident Evil. They just grab the names and some bits of the plot from the first three games and call it a day, but they don't actually feel like they belong in that universe. The characters are totally off, the dialogue is just painful to sit through, and the whole thing feels rushed and messy. It’s just poorly executed.
I'm with you on that. You just can't translate that specific feeling of playing a game onto a cinema screen. It's a unique sensation, especially with a title like this.
Besides, I already mentioned that this felt like the closest thing we've seen so far. Especially compared to everything else that's been put out up to this point.
And back when I was actually playing the game, I wasn't even paying much attention to the characters. I've basically forgotten them by now; they were just names like Claire and stuff. I didn't get super emotionally attached or anything—I'm not that big of a fanatic. 🤷
They basically just functioned as our avatars. 🤷
But when I look at the game as a whole, through all its animations and everything, this still feels like the most accurate version. Being overly serious wouldn't even fit the vibe; there's no need for it.
I honestly don't get you guys acting like experts on this movie. Have any of you actually played a > game before? And I mean the original one from '96, not some watered-down remake. To me, this is about as close as we're getting to that original vibe 🤷
Honestly, looking at the plot now—the whole franchise, really—it feels weirdly prophetic, like it’s hitting on stuff happening in the real world today. The execution is just the right amount of trashy, which is exactly what you want. Visually? It actually looks pretty solid. My main gripe is the pacing; it’s clunky and the flow is all over the place. I haven't actually sat through any of the previous movies because, frankly, the whole thing always seemed off to me (Milla Jovovich just wasn't my vibe), but I had this gut feeling this one might actually be alright.
The casting is decent enough, especially the two leads. They're sexy, and let's be real, you need that kind of energy for a movie like this.
