OCD: General Discussion Thread in Psychology & Therapy ·
Eh, it’s always the old folks calling the shots, isn't it?
But look, if you’re over 15, it’s time to step up and own your stuff. That's just my two cents.
It takes a massive amount of grit and hard work—and let's be honest, nobody actually likes doing that.
You also need a huge dose of self-tolerance and being brutally honest with yourself.
There’s this old psychiatric maxim out there: THERE ARE NO FORBIDDEN THOUGHTS!!!!
I mean, seriously, you can think about killing your neighbor or whatever crazy stuff pops into your head. Our imaginations are wild, and humans are basically just walking, talking engines of pure imagination.
It's like that subconscious rule: EVERYTHING YOU TRY TO BURY COMES BACK LOUDER THAN BEFORE.
Here is my golden rule! Don't be afraid of anything. Just try to stay calm... eventually, that peace will lead you somewhere warm, quiet, and safe.

Hey Thomas Harris, just give me the lowdown—do you have any siblings? A brother or maybe a sister? I’m deep in the weeds working on some theory about how personalities actually form.
I’ve got a hunch you’ve got at least two, either brothers or sisters... tell me if I'm totally off base here!
Two weeks on a water fast - thoughts? in Health ·
So, I’m thinking about trying a once-a-week fast, but here's the kicker: I’ll still be sipping on coffee and having my cigarettes (sadly!). Because of that, I was wondering if I actually need to deal with enemas? I think I have a rough idea of what that entails, but honestly, I haven't the slightest clue how you even do it... hm. Personally, I'm leaning towards thinking it's totally unnecessary, but I'd love to hear some advice from anyone who's been there before!
Dealing with depression in Health ·
I'm really pushing myself to stay awake and actually stick to a schedule, hoping I can finally catch a groove and just stay on track
Yesterday was just one massive pile of 3.7 miles, and honestly? It was such a struggle, ugh
Everything was getting on my nerves yesterday... I was just totally spiraling
Man, it’s tough. You can't go backward, but looking ahead? I'm terrified. Just straight-up, absolute terror
Dealing with depression in Health ·
Look, Google, I’m being totally real here... I spent two whole days just rotting in bed. Honestly? I felt like I was dying. I didn't want to crawl out from under all that crap, and I was just spiraling, stuck in my own head. I was terrified I might actually end it (again), and I couldn't see any way out (again)... and man, I am just so over it, believe me. "My girlfriend saved me." She basically forced her way into my place, and out of pure politeness, I dragged myself up, showered, brushed my teeth, and told her: this is it. This is the absolute last time I let this kind of nonsense take me down. From here on out, I’m getting my act together. No more slacking off until the day I die. Seriously, death is not the answer—I just can't deal with the depression, the constant dissatisfaction, the laziness, and the endless whining anymore. I just can't, man... or, well, sis
Man, I feel you. That’s exactly how I operate too... It just drives me absolutely nuts seeing all those "unimportant" people out there, smiling their heads off and clearly having a much better time than I am. Honestly? Fear just paralyzes me, and death... it just brings this heavy depression that makes it impossible to move an inch. And the worst part is, I can't even fake being okay anymore. I’ve lost almost all control over my own head; my thoughts just wander off into deep space and start making fun of me.
I keep repeating that Barrett mantra to myself: "Behind reason lies my shadow, but faith is not lost."😉
I really miss this forum and the vibe here, ugh, boohoo!🙂
And honestly, every single time I take my Prozac, I end up sneezing. ACHOOO!😕
Hypnosis: Yay or Nay? in Health ·
So, apparently, it all boils down to this whole "suggestibility" thing... which actually says a lot about how strong your ego really is. People seem to steer clear of using Hypnosis as some sort of quick fix to just vent out suppressed conflicts—you know, that "acting out" or catharsis thing that supposedly "releases" energy. The idea is that by doing that, you’re basically "unloading" an ego that's burning way too much fuel trying to keep everything pushed down. That's the super short version! For me, the best example of Hypnosis was in an old issue of Dylan Dog, though I can't recall the title off the top of my head... there was even a show about that psychiatrist, Halifax... man, she was good 🙂
...and obviously, Hypnosis isn't the only way to go. I've been thinking about this a ton because my own childhood was pretty heavy on the fears and traumas... stuff like that. Anyway, cheers
Man, I’m struggling because I keep nodding off while practicing my AT in the afternoon. I don't know what it is! I usually practice on this thick foam pad, and honestly, maybe that's part of the problem? But seriously, I can't afford to fall asleep—I really don't want to—but it just hits me out of nowhere. Then, of course, I feel like total garbage afterward, which sucks.
Hmm... and even after doing AT for a full year now, I still find myself dodging those heart exercises. Hmm, hmm, hmm.
I wonder what people who do AT actually use? Right now, I’m just practicing on my bed right before sleep. Maybe I should grab a thinner foam pad, or maybe some grip tape, or even a bed with studs? Or hey, maybe just some sandpaper?))
So get this—my psychiatrist actually told me that AT isn't really a thing people use, and she claimed she’s never even met anyone who successfully cured an atom neurosis with it! She basically said it’s just some tool for managers to use, which, hello, I am definitely not a manager... I won't drop names because she’s honestly a wonderful person, but what she said really threw me for a loop. Not that I’m easily shaken, though! I’m sticking with my AT, but I did decide to stop seeing her. It’s such a total paradox, too, because she was the one who suggested meditation in the first place! So, you tell me—what do you think? Be smart here. Anyway, Alex Foster6, keep me posted on how things are going with your AT if you feel like typing. Good luck and big hugs!🙂
You are definitely not alone here
I've totally got your back! There has to be some kind of standard around here, right? It shouldn't be a free-for-all where anyone can just jump onto the forum, say whatever nonsense they want, swear, throw insults, and tear people down
Some folks really need to step up their game and work on their manners, their attitude, and just how they talk to others online
She was brave enough to actually speak up when everyone else stayed quiet, so let's show her we're standing with her!
Hey, electricdriver78! Seriously, talking about Heathcliff... man, where was that law in that one book? Ugh, my brain!
I’d love to get my hands on a VHS tape or some old cassette featuring a single psychiatrist... but honestly, I don't think she buys the idea that you can actually dive into your own subconscious on your own. She’s all about following some trendy, modern therapist type... ugh. Man, what I wouldn't give if I were a woman! But hey, what would I even trade? I've got nothing. I was born a total softie, never really had that "business mogul" drive in me, and I'll probably never land a gorgeous wife... boo!
I'm gonna end up alone... boo!
I'll probably wind up at a chiropractor's office, but just lying there in the dark...
And then I'll just die from the flu... boo!
My favorite sports team is never going to win a championship... booooo!
I’ve been giving it my all, honey, I really have! But honestly? It’s just not happening.
Trying to muscle through it with pure aggression? Yeah, that’s just not gonna work. It’s like trying to force a jammed key into a lock—you’re just gonna snap the tip off and end up stuck. You can't bully your way into progress!
I tried pumping up the activity level, but honestly? It’s just not biting. Nothing! Zero movement. It's like trying to jumpstart a car with a dead battery—you can turn the key all you want, but you aren't going anywhere. Just a total dud.
Tried sleeping it off, but honestly? It just didn't work. No luck there!
I tried using cane sugar, but honestly? It’s just not happening. Total dud.
Honestly, green tea just isn't doing it for me. It’s like trying to fuel a Ferrari with tap water—it's just not hitting the mark!
Everything is just hitting a wall right now! It’s like I’m trying to run through waist-deep mud. Just one thing after another!
I am telling you, my ab workouts are absolutely hitting a wall! It’s like I’m doing everything by the book, putting in the sweat, but those abs just refuse to show up. It's honestly frustrating! It feels like I'm running on a treadmill that's stuck in place—lots of effort, zero distance gained. I've been grinding away at them, but nothing is budging. Anyone else feeling like they're fighting a losing battle with their core?
Decided to skip spraying the apples... yeah, that didn't exactly go according to plan!
He let his hair grow out, shaved it down to a single digit—it’s just not working!
I tried mixing some soju into the feed for the non-laying hens, but let me tell you—it’s a total bust! It just doesn't work.
I swapped out the tires on my Honda Civic for some Montic ones, and honestly? It’s feeling a little better, but let's be real—it's still pretty sluggish. Not exactly a total game changer!
There was a time when grabbing a pack of red Marlboros was just a given. It wasn't even a question! You’d walk up to the counter, ask for them, and that was that. No fuss, no drama. Everything was just easy like that.
I tried running a presentation on my old Walter 100s here in the States, and man, it just won't budge! It’s totally stuck.
Man, I’m telling you... I can feel that heavy cloud rolling in. I'm starting to slide toward that dark hole, and I swear I promised myself—never again! No more feeling down, no more gloom, and absolutely zero melancholy from here on out. Not on my watch!
So I was checking out some old DivX files today... man, watching those old clips just hits different. It’s got me thinking about Monica, Monica, Monica... but let me tell you, that ain't exactly like playing a harmonica, haha!
I’m honestly not even going to waste my energy being angry... I'll just keep that all to myself. But seriously, if anyone else decides to write another post attacking Gruden, I am absolutely nuking this entire server. No questions asked!🙂
Long live Marx !!!!
The link is fine, just like any other one out there, but I honestly don't see how it has anything to do with those ridiculous Gruden ideas of his. It makes zero sense to me.
Maybe shadowfalcon33 can step in and explain things a bit—you know, prove that Gruden doesn't actually have a clue and is basically just coasting while everyone else works. Let him try to dig himself out of this mess himself for once!
And seriously, nobody has even told me the name of that guy from Hurricane Ridge yet. See? This is exactly what I mean about you people!
Casey Palmer5 odds
..I don't know a thing about Gruden
I'm just catching up..so don't even bother typing anything
shadowfalcon33 is also talking nonsense..posting all those stupid American links
but man, watching them argue is pure gold
makes me want to go out and tackle someone, Jesus or some old guy, haha
I honestly think every thread eventually dies out sooner or later. Everything is temporary, you know? But the psyche? That's forever. Just like Dr. Gruden, haha! And don't forget about those Winona PM training sessions... hugs!
peace on earth
And hey, Alex Foster6, keep dreaming big! Just maybe try doing it with a slightly shifted consciousness during an AT session next time. Wishing you tons of happiness and success in life—may you have three healthy kids and a super tolerant husband, hehehe!
If you want to dive deep into anything regarding AT, just hit up the Winona PM. And please, Winona, don't be too harsh, or you'll end up with wrinkles and a hardened heart... you'll turn into someone straight out of hurricane ridge, like that guy... what was his name? Heathcliff or something like that. If anyone happens to remember the name, help a friend out! Thanks in advance!
Level 1? Seriously? That sounds more like a basic German class at a community college than anything else, people... come on! Is the final level 4, 7, or 18? I can't even tell with this setup.
Honestly, some folks need a manual just to figure out how to use a restroom properly.
Okay, so the new thing has a weird name, and it triggers this sense of resistance and a little bit of fear in me—which makes sense if you’re dealing with anxiety symptoms (if I'm reading you right)... I'm honestly just bummed I didn't stumble upon that book way sooner. But hey, it is what it is.
Look, I know I can be a bit blunt, but I really hate it when people talk about stuff they clearly only have a surface-level understanding of. I noticed that placidjackal97 keeps chiming in on every single thread about autogenic training to say you shouldn't "mess with your psyche." There's a tiny grain of truth there, sure, but the way she phrases it drives me absolutely nuts—it actually makes me want to drop everything and go practice my autogenic training immediately! Haha, man...
And one more thing... all those people claiming to be regular autogenic training practitioners were basically tearing each other apart in previous threads, acting like it was some holy ritual. But the whole point is tolerance, detachment, and emotional control... blah, blah, blah. Just enjoy the ride, no offense intended, and PEACE! TOTAL PEACE! 😎
Oh, please, Alex Foster6, don't even bother asking those lunatics anything... just stick to your autogenic training and trust your gut. Seriously, go talk to a few different experts, but at the end of the day, you've gotta test it out for yourself. You’ll realize it’s basically the same thing—doing autogenic training versus just lying in bed in that half-awake state during the morning. Honestly, you might be tapping into your subconscious way more than you actually think you are. Just learn to trust your intuition! And hey, even if something crazy happens to your psyche (which is total nonsense and honestly just idiotic), so what? It didn't happen to me, and I was practicing this while dealing with the most intense anxiety one single body can handle without literally splitting in two. Just read up, get some advice, and see how it goes.
And regarding shadowfalcon33... "a civilized country"? Give me a break, man. Seriously, my dear friend, please, enlighten me—what exactly defines a "civilized country" to you? Ugh.
Homophobic? Well, thank God, lady! Seriously!!
The more they bash this guy, the more I actually like him..
..but you're talking nonsense. This man literally saved psychiatry. It’s just that other people don't have the guts, the strength, or the brains to even wrap their heads around his ideas... but whatever, that's not even the point.
anyway the wind blows
..and hey, you don't even need to bother with autogenic training, Alex Foster6. Just shoot yourself in the head and all your worries, anxiety, indecision, fears, and doubts vanish. You die and let everyone else live their lives... hehehe
People go looking for help, then spend every waking second making sure they never get it.
They try to understand, yet do everything in their power to stay ignorant... you put that perfectly, one of those endless stupid phrases spat out by human history and the psyche itself..
I honestly don't know why the hell I'm still posting here. I'm an idiot. I truly believe there's someone out there who actually wants to understand and help, but ugh, forget all of you! 🙂
..if you want some "intensive cleaning," just take a trip. No need to mess around with mantras or autosuggestions... you'll have way more time for all those little things that actually make life worth living... cool, except for all the questions and dilemmas... then you just end up heading to see some strong, wise female therapist... aaaaaaaa
peace out!
Ugh, I was actually spiraling a bit last night thinking about Gruden. Look, I have zero desire to ever meet that guy in person, but man, his books literally saved my life... and I mean that in the most literal sense possible.
I’ve been practicing autogenic training all by myself using his stuff, and I even dug through Lindemann too. I’ll be the first to admit that doing this solo is tough, but hey, that’s just how I roll. I’m positive you can master it on your own and start applying it, too—it's always going to be worth the effort. His book lays everything out so clearly and in such detail that I find myself re-reading it constantly, just taking it slow, sentence by sentence.
By the way, I’m living out in a smaller town outside of Chicago, and I haven't heard of anyone else here even touching autogenic training. Honestly, I probably wouldn't have even looked into it if I wasn't constantly losing it from anxiety. The book does a great job explaining what it is and gives you the general breakdown of how psychopathology works. But if I were you, or if I lived in Washington, D.C., I would definitely scrape the money together for a professional course. There are just so many good reasons to do it...
I remember seeing a comment on some ancient thread once saying that people who practice autogenic training come off as somehow cold. I don't know about everyone else, but emotions have cost me dearly in my messed-up life—a life I'm finally trying to get under control. PEACE. TOTAL PEACE.🙂
