Dietary tips after pacemaker surgery in Health ·
My kid is searching online for heart disease diets. You’ve got to keep blood fats under control, and blood pressure too—that comes down to meds. Since you have to cut out the salt, just load up on spices to make things actually taste good. Stick to rye bread, though I really hope they're making it without added sodium.
Ditch all the deep-fried junk. Forget frying stuff in oil. Use a foil packet instead—think of how great a Perdue chicken packet tastes. Get rid of heavy gravies and anything fried in oil, too. There's research coming out showing that statins (those cholesterol drugs) can have some nasty side effects, so don't just hand them over to Grandma (even if our doctors here at the Mayo Clinic still prescribe them like crazy).
Drink plenty of fluids and eat tons of fruits and veggies, preferably raw or lightly cooked.
For supplements, I’d recommend Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids.
Red rice extract is killer for cholesterol. Also, burdock root tea is excellent for detoxing, lowering cholesterol, and cleaning out the liver—which is where everything starts.

Google these terms: "heart healthy diet," "cardiac diet," or whatever.

Eat up, kid! Come on, get some food in you! in Psychology ·
Zachary Mendoza2 said:Their parents lived through the Great Depression, and those lean years stayed with them forever. 😳
We need to make sure our kids eat their fill while food is actually available, because who knows what tomorrow looks like.

My old man is constantly offering me food, only to turn around ten minutes later and tell me I need to watch my weight because I'm getting chubby. Then, when my kids eat dinner around 6 or 7 PM instead of stuffing their faces right before bed at 9, he loses his mind. "They haven't eaten! They're starving! Give them something to eat!" blah blah blah.
It's pure post-traumatic stress from back when everyone was struggling—he basically inherited it from his mother.
Back then, you were considered lucky and rich just as long as you weren't hungry.
When I tried going on a diet once, everyone acted like I was signing my own death warrant. "You're finished! You're gonna die!" they all said.
Look, if you're actually trying to de-stress, don't turn the process itself into another massive headache. That defeats the whole purpose, doesn't it?
I’d suggest checking out the books "secret" and "simplify everyday life."
Also, go get a full physical. Don't overlook the little things—for instance, even something like a dental retainer can cause a ton of the issues people talk about.

Be honest with yourself: there are definitely habits you cling to or chores you tackle that you honestly wouldn't miss if they disappeared. Think about it.
Look, I think you’re hanging out with too many idiots who just don't have a clue. Seriously, stop wasting your breath on them—it's bad for your mental health. Just say no when they ask to grab a coffee or whatever. You don't need that nonsense in your life. Go take a hike in the woods instead.
I'm actually glad my husband doesn't get interrogated by people whenever we're out together; they only seem to have questions when I'm on my own. So even if I have to deal with a bunch of loudmouths, I'm sticking right by my man.🤣
About two weeks ago, this pregnant woman came in asking for something we normally don't give out—strictly against policy—but I went ahead and did it for her. I told my coworker: she’s pregnant, she can have whatever she wants.
It felt damn good.

And that total nightmare behind the counter? She was absolutely disgusting. You should have exposed her in the local papers. What a pig.
But hey, karma always catches up. Everything comes back around eventually.

HELP !!!!!!! ALT being at 63—can anyone tell me what might be causing that?

About two months ago, it was sitting around 53 (I don't have the lab results right in front of me, but somewhere in that ballpark).
A year ago, my cholesterol and LDL were both high. I managed to get those under control, but my ALT stayed elevated and actually started creeping up even more.

Thanks in advance

Back-to-back sex: any tips? in Health ·
restlesstiger10 said:maybe we should just require sex licenses. If you don't understand the risks or how to stay safe, you shouldn't be doing it. And you can only retake the test every five years, so decide if the hassle is actually worth it.😠.

Look, since you're done with high school, why don't you tell us who your biology teacher was and what kind of grade you pulled in the class?
Do you usually spend your time talking about things you know absolutely nothing about?

If you’re so worried about getting pregnant, maybe go see a doctor and get some birth control prescribed instead.

If this weren't so pathetic, it would actually be funny.
Then one day you'll be sitting there complaining about being way too young to be pregnant or having to deal with an abortion because you were too clueless about sex to protect yourself.
Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
I just went to the Sun clinic in San Francisco for a full physical and some other tests, and honestly? I can't recommend them enough. Even with the hour-and-a-half drive to get to San Francisco, it was totally worth it.
The whole ordeal—the entire checkup—actually took less time than if I had tried to squeeze in just one single appointment back in my hometown.
I walked into the clinic at 8:05 AM and was out the door by 9:50 AM.
Everyone there was super friendly, and booking the appointment was a total breeze.

Since I’m traveling anyway, I went ahead and booked a double appointment for myself and my mother for our next checkup. We're doing blood work and an ultrasound first thing at 8:00 AM, then we'll head into the city to hang out before heading back for our scheduled 12:00 PM slot.

Can anyone point me toward a decent grocery store in San Francisco or somewhere nearby?

Thanks,
I'll keep looking.
Honestly, I just went to one of those specialty shops and the whole experience was a total nightmare. The selection was a mess and the service was just awful. I'm going to start checking out some stores over near San Francisco instead.

Can someone give me an honest quality assessment? I’m having a hard time making sense of this spec sheet versus what the shop actually had on the sticker tag.
I'm about 5'6", and this model has a sloping top tube, if that's even the right term.

Great tips, thanks everyone.
I’m thinking about dropping anywhere from $2,000 up to $1333. I'll mostly be out on the road, but let's be honest—I know those forest trails are going to call my name. Luckily, my office has a shower, so that works out perfectly. Since I'll be riding every other day, I'll just drop off a freshly pressed shirt at the office the night before.

Listen, it’s just one long series of ups and downs. 🤣
The ride to work starts off flat, then hits some gentle climbs, and finally finishes with a brutal descent. It’s going to be just as much of a nightmare on the way back, but who cares when you're heading home?
Any advice on what kind of bike I should grab? Maybe a specific brand or a certain type of seat? Just a heads up, I'm carrying an extra 10 to 15 pounds myself.
Help me out here.

I am so glad I stumbled upon this thread.
I’ve been seriously considering buying a bike and commuting to work on it. Honestly, looking at the facts, there isn't much stopping me. I could probably even swing a morning shift. It feels sketchy as hell riding along the highway in the middle of the night. People drive like maniacs near the pedestrian crossings all summer long, and I'm just not feeling it.
How long does it actually take you guys to get up to speed, say 9.3 miles or how long did it take when you first started out?
Trying to lose weight before getting pregnant! in Hobbies & Leisure ·
mellowhound17 says:
during pregnancy, you just need to eat the equivalent of two bananas, for example, and more than that is just unnecessary stuffing

Nice one, you nailed it.

I never really dealt with those intense cravings to overeat, but I remember visiting my sister-in-law once and trying some chocolate cake. It was freaking delicious.
But I told her straight up: either put that thing away or I'm heading home (and she didn't even get mad).
If I hadn't, I would have definitely polished off the whole pan.
