Muscle Cramp Help! in Health ·
Arthur Barnes said:A buddy suggested I try acetylsalicylic acid, but I can't find any at the local labs. Honestly, trying to DIY this with salt and ice acetic acid sounds like a total nightmare.

😂 Look, acetylsalicylic acid is just the main ingredient in stuff like Advil or Aspirin. It's way easier to just grab some from a drugstore than wandering around empty labs looking for it. 🙄

...completely unrelated to muscle fiber 😁

Elizabeth Foster20 said:When you look at kids born from rapists—like that awful case where an 8-year-old girl was victimized😲 and ended up pregnant, people start arguing about whether she should carry it to term or not. Naturally,😱 the Catholic Church’s stance was that the poor kid had to give birth... I think.🙂

8 years old? Look, if a child is actually developed enough to even reach pregnancy (🙄 which is honestly unthinkable to me), I'm worried their reproductive organs wouldn't be fully formed. If a pregnancy even managed to progress, there would likely be massive complications similar to those cases where the pregnancy itself puts the mother's life at risk...

Yeah, the Catholic Church insists on carrying the baby, but they also hold that if the pregnancy threatens the mother's life, she's allowed to terminate it...

Elizabeth Foster20 said:I mean, I guess if a kid isn't wanted, the alternative to an abortion is just having it and leaving it somewhere. 🤔

Yeah, my take is that it’s better to have the baby and leave it than not have it at all (🙄 since that's the choice I'm stuck with here).
Elizabeth Foster20 said:And forcing a rape victim to carry a rapist's child is especially 🙂

I'm not trying to force anyone into anything. That's not how I live my life. If someone asked for my advice, I'd tell them what I wrote here, and then they can make their own choice... (and choose for their own kid!).
Betty Bennett10 said:Hold on, it doesn't necessarily mean urbansailor68 is forcing anyone to give birth. It might just be her opinion—doesn't mean she's automatically against banning Vacuum-abortus.

It's just my opinion. And I hope I actually follow it if I ever end up in one of those situations (...honestly, I hope I don't 🙄 ).

jadetinker85 said:I just read this story about a woman who refused an abortion even though there was a serious medical reason. Apparently, the pregnancy was ectopic—it wasn't in the uterus—and in the end, both she and the baby died. Honestly, I think those kinds of radical stances are just senseless.

But that’s not a fetal malformation. That’s a situation where the pregnancy itself is life-threatening to the mother. Those are exactly the types of cases where I believe an abortion is justified.

Betty Bennett10 said:I'm still not totally following: you're saying an abortion is only okay if both the mother's and the baby's lives are at risk—basically, where continuing the pregnancy would kill them both, but ending it saves the mother? (Honestly, I can't even wrap my head around what kind of medical situation that would actually be.)

I guess one example is when a pregnant woman has major heart issues or high blood pressure, and carrying the baby to term—let alone actually giving birth—could literally kill her. I don't know, maybe someone here is actually a doctor and can give a better example.
Betty Bennett10 said:What if a woman gets diagnosed with cancer or something else during her pregnancy, and she needs treatment that would either harm or end the pregnancy? Is an abortion justified in that case?

To be honest, I’ve never really thought about that. Not sure what I'd say.🙄
🤔If it's a fast-moving disease, like she'd die before the pregnancy even finishes, then you'd have to go with the treatment and just deal with whatever happens next.
I don't know... I think I'm for the mother getting treated...

But now you've got me thinking about another thing I don't really have a solid take on: childbirth. Like when you have to choose between the mother's life or the baby's—those cases exist, at least in movies. 🙄 In that scenario, the baby is already capable of living on its own. Still don't have a real opinion on that one either.🙄

Betty Bennett10 said:...so in that case, their lives are just as 'important'—meaning if the mother's life is at risk, an abortion would still be considered murder.

Yeah, it's murder, but you're saving at least one life instead of two.

Betty Bennett10 said:Do you think an abortion is only justified if the mother's life is at risk? What about cases involving fetal malformation, or, say, when the pregnancy is the result of a rape?

Yeah.

I don't think it's justified in cases of fetal malformation or when the pregnancy comes from a rape.

Elizabeth Foster20 said:For example, I don't get why you (and everyone else holding that view) assume it's somehow more moral to give birth just to dump the baby in a trash can👎 than having an abortion.

...wait, where did I even mention leaving a kid in a trash can? 🤔
Elizabeth Foster20 said:...who said women choosing abortion are way more stable than those who choose adoption?

Maybe I did say that. Because even if the pregnancy or the kid wasn't planned, nature basically ensures that "love for the child" kicks in during and after the pregnancy... so by that logic, a mother who carries to term but then abandons her own kid would be the "unstable" one. Makes sense.

Elizabeth Foster20 said:I'm all in on the right to choose. 👍

🙄 Look, people already have total freedom of choice. We have the freedom to kill someone who's 60 or 15, or even a two-day-old infant. It’s not about whether that freedom exists—it definitely does. The real question is how much that actually lines up with a person's own moral compass. Choice and liberty aren't even part of the debate here. 🙄

It’s a whole different ballgame when someone decides to take a life and the law actually gives them the green light to do it. 🙄 😢

If we're talking about medical necessity—like when a woman's life is actually on the line—then yeah, that needs to be an option. But that's not the kind of thing we're discussing here.
Elizabeth Foster20 said:Pregnancy happens... (I mean, Mary’s being skeptical, but whatever.) 😁)

It just "happened" to her? Please. Everyone else could have seen it coming. 😁
Elizabeth Foster20 said:Honestly, so many women... they wouldn't even act like that if a guy just acted like an adult for once.

Ugh, maybe... but honestly, the choice is always up to the woman. So, who exactly is being called immature here? 🙄

So, what's even the point of this whole discussion? And why on earth is it being posted in the health section?
Hypnosis: Yay or Nay? in Health ·
I’m probably gonna get roasted by all you Hypnosis enthusiasts for saying this, but here we go. 🙄
One psychiatrist I talked to told me that while you can definitely "extract" things from people who are actually susceptible to it, that alone says a lot about their own psyche. He also pointed out that you can achieve those same therapeutic results through other types of psychotherapy that aren't nearly as "risky" for the patient.
And yeah, here’s the kicker: he told me he doesn't practice it—even though he had to learn it back in med school—simply because he knows there’s a certain percentage of hypnotized people who never truly "come back." 🙄 😛

Casey Palmer5 said:It’s used all the time for spastic muscles—like with cerebral palsy—and in cosmetic surgery for wrinkles since it basically paralyzes the facial muscles once you inject it.

It also works for axillary hyperhidrosis. The effect lasts about six months.

Yeah, something like that... 🙄

I haven't used it in years, so I didn't even blink when I saw it on the shelf. Still, I think the shampoo is solid, so if anyone's dealing with issues, they should probably check out which of those T-gels is the right one.

You used to be able to pick this up at any local market in Chicago, but they haven't had anything in stock for ages. NeutrogenaIt smells absolutely terrible. You spend the whole day feeling like someone’s burning rubber right next to you.

Is that the Neutrogena T-Gel one? Don't even get me started on the smell. 🙄 Honestly, I'm pretty sure there are a few different types of T-gels sitting on the shelves at CVS these days, even though it feels like back in the day there was only ever that one stinky version. 🙄 If anyone actually needs to do some research, go ahead. But honestly, that shampoo was legit.
Coca-Cola + vodka in Health ·
😁 People are gonna think I’m some kind of total alcoholic... Look, drink alcohol (in moderation, obviously 🙄), but stay far away from Pepsi and that other junk. Don't mix it with booze and don't drink it solo either. It’s got stuff in there that unnecessarily cranks up certain physical processes, and even worse, messes with your head... 😎

Are you living the dream? in Spirituality ·
I’m not living my dream. Honestly, it feels like I might never get there, and what kind of person would I even be without those big goals and desires? If I actually pulled it off, it wouldn't just be a dream anymore—it would just be my reality.

Then again, I have to admit, it feels like I’m getting closer to those dreams every single day. I’m not sure if dreams just shift as you get older—maybe they become more grounded and reachable? Or maybe they actually start coming true as time goes by... 😉

Not that it applies to me, though... some famous singer we have over here puts it perfectly: I don't dream about life, I live my dream. Pretty cool.🙂
Colored contact lenses in Health ·
Since we're already talking about health... I gotta weigh in on this: I saw some post online recently claiming those colored contact lenses are actually pretty bad for your eyes (can't remember where I read it, honestly)
Sending love and empathy in Spirituality ·
I can only really feel for people I actually know. My empathy scales directly with how close I am to someone.

Yeah, it sucks when bad things happen to people... but if it’s happening far away, among strangers who don't affect my life, I just don't feel it deeply. It doesn't hit me that hard.
Sometimes it feels like people who constantly brag about their "empathy" for distant tragedies or global issues actually have zero compassion for the people standing right in front of them. They'll cry over a crisis in the Middle East or elephants in Africa, but they completely ignore the person sitting next to them at dinner. 🙄 (Not even sure if bananas grow in the Congo, honestly).

To me, true empathy is one of the most important and precious things a person can have. Sadly, I don't see it much—except for that performative "global" kind, which isn't the real thing.
🙄Maybe I just hang out with the wrong crowd.
