Aristotle and his biases? in Philosophy ·
nobody at all said:I wouldn't know how to answer a question about Aristotle.

A shame, but thanks anyway. You just forgot to mention if Plato also advocated for slavery? I don't recall him mentioning slaves anywhere in his Republic.🤔

I'm actually quite curious about this Aristotle business; it's a pity no one is responding. Tell you what—I'll buy a beer for whoever gives me an answer or points me toward a decent source.

The point is, getting irritated by loud neighbors is a perfectly normal reaction—actually, it’s a desirable one. 😉

I read somewhere that Aristotle claimed the soul enters a male fetus at 40 days, but doesn't enter a female one until day 80. Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm curious about his methodology—how did he arrive at those specific numbers, and what made him so certain?

Also... it looks like I might be mixing him up with Plato (according to my brother). I seem to remember Aristotle being against slavery, even though he was once held in bondage himself. My brother insists he was a slave owner, and claims Plato was the one who was declared a slave after some sort of fallout with a king, only to escape a few years later?

Help me clear the mental fog here; everything is getting tangled up.😵 😳

Nobody has replied to my post from five days ago. I suppose everyone assumes I'm just joking around.😲 $

Well, you have to understand our perspective. It’s difficult to take someone seriously when they actually believe loud neighbors can cause schizophrenia.
Need help with some psychology terms in Psychology ·
placidmoose32 said:Anhedonia

It’s an emotional disorder where a patient loses the ability to experience pleasure in any area of life.

I can't offer much more help than that; it isn't listed in my foreign terminology dictionary. 😬

Do you want to talk more about your friend? 😉
Hair growing on your head? Since when was that a thing? 😲
Where is the anxiety thread? in Health ·
How could there not be a thread? It’s right there on the first page under Psychology. Fifth one down, sandwiched between Prozac and psychics 😉
Dealing with depression? in Health ·
What does Rambo have to do with depression? They're both psychological issues; they aren't exactly unrelated.

Right, Matthew Morris28, thanks for stating the obvious. I honestly thought war was just stressful. My mistake.

So, tell me, are those with PTSD just trash too, or are the war veterans actually heroes—the pride of our nation? 😳

Some people tried to push "semi-vegetarians" as a category—basically just people who eat fish—but that isn't going to fly. If you aren't eating meat, you aren't eating meat. You can't call yourself veggie if you aren't. It's the same reason why macrobioticians don't claim the vegetarian label.

So, we have lacto-ovo, lacto, vegans, and fruitarians.🙂

I'll DM you the address once I get the green light. 😉

How do you think I eat? Quite well, actually. 🙂 By definition, I'm a lacto-vegetarian. I can't stand cooking, I don't own a cookbook, and I avoid all those super exotic ingredients—honestly, I almost envy the vegans who enjoy spending hours in the kitchen with specialty items. Unless, of course, you consider barley exotic. 🙂

Feel free to ask more if you want. Or just head over to the group. 👋

buying pets 😢

I don't bother with supplements since I don't see the need; everything I require comes straight from my diet. My bloodwork is flawless and my physical health is peak, so I assume I'm not missing anything.

Would you like me to send you the address for a small vegan group where the ladies are quite knowledgeable, or should I ask them about those specific supplements for you?

By the way, I suggest joining the group. People have left an incredible amount of info on restaurants and grocery stores in New York City, along with recipes and more. 😉

Glad to hear it. Hopefully they finally talked some sense into you and you'll let them out of their cage 🙂

You have here a useful thread. To be fair, I haven't read it 😳

I didn't realize you were a vegetarian🙂
I challenge you to try. You might just end up finding things I don't eat—which is only three items, hardly a long list compared to 🎉

People make such a massive fuss over when they should probably stop and ask how or why...
Look, I don't see any reason to list everything on my plate 🙂 I wasn't attacking you; there's no need to get defensive immediately.
Charles Young, don't get me wrong, but I've always found those United Nations types fascinating—the ones who feel a desperate need to lecture me at length about exactly which meats they do or don't touch. Why the sudden urge to explain?😕

It’s almost as if she was searching for some kind of justification, only to end up tripping over her own words.

Whenever I ask someone in RL why they felt compelled to recite their entire grocery list to me, they just stare back with that classic look of here we go again with the twisted questions 😛

I see we have some actual psychologists weighing in here 👋

Since I don't even start my undergrad until the fall, please excuse any mindless rambling on my part 😳

To all you control freaks 🙂, why not try observing—and actually logging—the specific moments your compulsions trigger? You might find something interesting 😉

Everyone here seems to be trying to fight fire with fire by using compulsions to manage compulsions.

Would anyone benefit from some basic breathing or relaxation exercises?

Obsessive-compulsive disorders are actually the direct result of trying to control one's thoughts and emotions.

Look, I know you mean well, but you can't just become a self-proclaimed expert on every mental health issue based solely on your own personal struggles. Do us all a favor and read a book first. 😢
