Phobia in Psychology ·
So you want to talk about fear, but without touching on phobias, anxiety, or panic disorders? That’s like trying to have a conversation about dairy products while being strictly forbidden from mentioning Switzerland.😉

Anthony Wood54 said:maybe give "Broken Pots" by Jasna Šurin a read...

I read that ages ago. I actually used to carry the book everywhere just to wave it around whenever I saw her, hoping to pique her interest enough to sneakily suggest she read it. It worked.😉

She still hasn't admitted to herself or anyone else that she’s sick, despite an anorexia diagnosis. But hey, progress is progress, right? The worst part is how far she went—not only is she making life miserable for her family, but they literally have to force-feed her. She even finished culinary school on overdrive (I think she crammed three years into a few months). I only realized later that the whole thing was just part of the illness. Back then, I was nothing but full of praise and admiration.

Where am I supposed to get the idea that people with bulimia or anorexia are narcissistic and egocentric? Every second or third article or book I read says so. The misconceptions are staggering. People even accused my friend of lying, being selfish, and just hunting for attention.

Good luck.🙂

I haven't read this entire thread yet, but I have a question for those living with an eating disorder. A close friend of mine struggles with anorexia, which actually inspired me to choose eating disorders as the subject for my senior thesis. I’ve done a lot of reading, and observing her—someone I've known practically my whole life—makes it impossible for me to accept the theory that people with anorexia or bulimia are just narcissists, egocentrics, or obsessed with their looks. I only know one person dealing with this, and she is anything but that. Honestly, I've spent countless hours frustrated with her because she can't say "no" to anyone, always puts herself last, and deals with such low self-esteem. It isn't about thinking she's better than everyone else and chasing some "perfect" body; that theory just doesn't fit her at all. I was reading Peggy Claude - Pierre's *secret language eating disorder*, and I find myself agreeing with her approach (and I can certainly "see" my friend in it). She introduces this concept of the "negative mind." These individuals don't abstain from food—or they purge—because they feel unworthy or undeserving of nourishment. There was even a story about an anorexic girl caught by her mother eating dog food...

If possible, could you all try to look objectively at your own experiences and see if they compare? I don't quite have the strength to talk to her openly about this yet. I'm waiting until I finish this project, hoping to understand as much as I can before I attempt to take action. I just don't know 😢

Good grief. You don't just get omega-3 fatty acids from fish; you can get them from walnuts, leafy greens, and more. It’s just this constant insistence that certain nutrients only come from one specific food source that gets under my skin. Honestly, does anyone really believe God made it so these alphas and omegas exist in only one single ingredient? Call me a fanatic if you want—which I'm not—but I can't stand misinformation.😎

I am not a fanatic. Not even close. It's not like I belong to some radical green movement or an animal rights group.😎

Ha, what can I say? Step one, however futile it might be.😉

I’ve always been fascinated by skydiving, though I didn't realize I was actually doing it myself. 😵

And no, I’m not picking fights with anyone. You all just seem to live for the argument, don't you?😛 🙂

Not really—it just caught my eye how much everyone thinks they're an expert, so I figured I’d give it a shot too.😉

No, the point was that you need to eat this specific food at least three times a week because it's the only source of essentials without which

life isn't even possible, let alone good health.

I can actually read, despite my chaotic, unhealthy lifestyle. I'm thrilled to have been given a glimpse of my future—and for free, no less. Maybe try finding a job as a fortune teller if you're so gifted.

I find myself wondering again: if all these nutrients are so vital and only found in animal products, why do vegetarians and vegans on average live longer and stay healthier? How many "experts" on this thread

I haven't read the whole thread, but what is this about an Atkins diet? Are people still following fools? The "legendary" Atkins died young from a heart attack, if that tells you anything at all.

Well, they even made a movie about famous Hitler. I guess he was quite the character, wasn't he? 😛

It’s also fascinating how some people finally realized Coca-Cola is bad for them, yet I bet they’re still sipping on every other soda out there.🙏

Get real. Nothing here is mandatory. If what you’re claiming had to be true, I would have been dead years ago. And not just me. 🙄

Nobody has to do anything. Everyone seems to feel the sudden urge to lecture others on what the meat, dairy, and fishing industries—whatever they call themselves these days—decide is "required." Try looking up some actual research from this century that wasn't funded by those very same corporations. See for yourself.

People survive without drinking two glasses of milk a day, eating bacon and eggs every morning, or consuming fish three times a week. In fact, many are living much healthier lives without any of it.

Maybe I'm losing it, but I've had enough.

I haven't touched fish in six years, let alone oily fish. So far, I'm doing just fine.😎

Whatever. Just my two cents.👋

And why would you hope that? What exactly am I missing out on by skipping the cheese and eggs?🙂

p.s. Hannah Rogers93, your body is just telling you what it needs. If you’ve noticed any negative changes since cutting out meat, maybe rethink going back to your old ways or at least diversifying your diet. It seems many people ignore the warning signs until they get sick, giving those "brilliant" doctors the satisfaction of saying you can't survive without meat. (Not that I'm trying to lecture anyone, I don't know what came over me today😳 )

Regarding dairy... maybe try cutting back for a bit? You could swap it out for more almonds, hazelnuts, spinach, kale, or parsley. It tastes great, and you'll get plenty of calcium that way, too. Honestly, milk often does more harm than good.

Then again, I'm no doctor, and I'm certainly not always right.😉

Go find a second opinion; it’s that easy. Since doctors are basically infallible gods who are always right, isn't it?

The millions of vegetarians out there prove animal protein isn't a requirement. Or are they just outliers?

p.s. You can find protein in almost everything; it's hard to miss if you eat a varied diet. Just up your intake of beans, peas, corn, and oats. It works fine.🙂

p.p.s. Don't overdo the fish. If you insist on eating it, don't go overboard like some people suggest. It's arguably "healthier" than milk.🙄
I’m a total amateur when it comes to vision correction; I’ve only been wearing glasses for about nine months. I assumed that actually wearing them would help slow down my prescription from getting worse. So, was I wrong? Should I just ditch the glasses entirely and rely on those eye exercises people talk about?

Once again, I'm asking where to find actual information on this, since my ophthalmologist didn't bother to mention any of it.
I’ve been feeling dizzy from the start, and I still have this—admittedly tiny—sense of visual lag whenever I turn my head. I’m not quite sure how to connect the dots yet... hm...

Where can I find information on those exercises? My prescription is 1.5 and 1.25, and I'm only 18.😢
Elon Musk said:I know someone who tried eye exercises. Her prescription actually dropped significantly—from -3.00 down to -0.50. But after she stopped for a year, it came back in one eye, though not the other. Why don't I try it myself? First off, I have this nagging feeling I'll just fail at it (I know, I know...). Second, you aren't supposed to wear contacts or glasses during the process, and I can't imagine being unable to drive to work or actually perform my job because I can't see. So, eye exercises? Who knows.

What exactly does "eye exercise" even entail? I've never heard of it, so I figured I'd ask...

I just got new lenses, and I feel like the prescription is way too strong. I really don't want to ruin my vision because of these lenses... Is there no way to avoid that?😢

At least now I know for next time that I don't need to hand over my ID and everything else.🙂

Where were you when I actually needed you?👎 🙂

Someone asked about my age. Technically, I’m still a minor for another two and a half months. Honestly, I'll just pay the fine—anything to avoid explaining my whereabouts and who I was hanging out with to my parents. Not cool.😳

P.S. I handed over my ID because I’m clearly naive. It felt like they only wanted proof that we're just some lost group of kids from the Midwest. Whatever, it's done.

I should have just started a poll😁 but I honestly don't know what to ask. I figured I’d just wait it out until the end of the week, hoping someone might pop up with the perfect solution. Not that this whole fake identity thing isn't working out okay for me—actually, I quite like my😢
