Also throwing in a GPU that’s currently acting up—a GTX 460, 1GB GDDR5 Twin Frozr 2. It’s got those classic fan issues; you can find the whole story online. As much as these things are quiet and decent when they work, they love to die on you. Replacement fans on eBay are only like $10-$12. I’m rarely on my PC lately, so I haven't bothered ordering them. Honestly, I’m fine with dropping the price or just tossing the card in for free with everything else, or I could just order the fans myself... whatever works. I don't really care.

Moving out of the country, so I'm getting rid of the rig.

Any idea what a fair price would be?

Ugh, I honestly thought the BB5 held its own against the MX4, and that the BB7 was basically in a league of its own, but clearly, I was dead wrong. 🙂

I told him the exact same thing—he should just look into some MX4s or BB5s. I’m running the MX4s right now and they bite hard. I'm sitting at about 190 lbs currently, and I've been north of 200 before... he'll be more than fine, and honestly, his riding experience will be totally transformed once he actually tries them. I know because I spent a brief period 😁 running those Promax discs. Not to mention how much less of a headache they are compared to hydraulic setups.

The bike is solid, and I don't see any reason why you'd want to get rid of it (not that you even suggested selling it). If the brakes are driving you crazy, if I were in your shoes, I'd hunt down some MX4s or maybe some BB5 mechanical discs on Craigslist. They perform well enough without breaking the bank. Or, you could just grab some decent budget hydraulics—say, if you're currently rocking Avid Elixir 3s, a fresh pair for $167 would give you much better stopping power that should cover whatever you're doing. As for everything else, just swap parts out whenever something inevitably snaps.
I actually saw a set of both front and rear Hayes MX4s for sale recently; they were practically brand new, pads at 100%, complete with adapters and levers for $100. You can find deals like that, you just have to be patient.

When it comes to computer tech, you can't look at it that way. Something new is always dropping, and you'll constantly feel like you missed the boat by not grabbing the latest thing. I remember being stuck in that exact loop, kicking myself for not jumping on Sandy Bridge immediately, even though waiting a few months would have been smarter. Then, just as I finally decided to pull the trigger, NVIDIA drops their new 5xx series, leaving me sitting there with my old 460. I might have the timeline slightly scrambled, but the lesson is simple: you can't think like that 😁

Edit: If you ask me, they're pretty much cousins. The 6xxx series is obviously newer, runs cooler, and draws less power—standard tech evolution stuff. I wouldn't say jumping from one to the other is worth the cash, but hey, that's just my two cents. Wait for someone else to weigh in before you decide.
