Train Wing Chun for a year and you won't even be able to pull a lever on a Wing Chun master.
So go ahead, compare the wisdom and science of these two arts!!!!!

THEY ARE INCOMPARABLE!!!

Exactly—they aren't comparable... but I have to ask, where exactly have you seen "levers" being used in Wing Chun? Honestly, very few people in the world actually utilize true leveraging within Wing Chun... because reaching that level requires a massive amount of technical knowledge—something most people never actually achieve... (not going to bore you with the details of why...). As someone who follows Wing Chun... all I see online are clips of people throwing hands and feet that don't even resemble actual Wing Chun... so I'm genuinely curious, where did you see these Wing Chun levers?😕

What actually gets taught in JKD???

Look, that's fine... but you just have to make sure all that admiration doesn't lead you straight into the hands of some snake oil salesman.. that's the point of what I told you...
-JKD is a fighting philosophy pioneered by Bruce Lee... as for what they teach in these so-called JKD clubs across the States... I honestly don't know... though I'd assume they cover everything, especially the essentials...
-If you're really into martial arts, maybe look into Aikido or something... it's a beautiful discipline..... if that's your vibe🙂

And what's got you so hung up on Wing Chun... I'm genuinely curious... did you hear some stories somewhere, or maybe catch a presentation that really caught your eye? 😁
I think there's some JKD out there—placidbison20 probably knows more about it—but if you ask me, you're better off picking up something else rather than Chinese martial arts here in the States... 😉

rustytinker3 said:-In LA, there's like 130 different types of Kung Fu—jujigatame and all that.
-Does anyone know if there's any Wing Chun training available in San Diego???

-man, please... you can find at least 150 varieties of Kung Fu just in a kitchen somewhere...
-nobody knows anything.

Jujigatame said:I finally realized the issue—when people say "Kung Fu," they’re probably just thinking about what they see in, say, Wing Chun (even if they don't realize it's actually Wing Chun, they just call it Kung Fu... I used to do the same thing). Or they think of Bruce Lee and his movies, as if anyone actually knows how many different styles there are in China, all the nuances, or the dialectical differences between them.

It’s the same deal with the term Jiu-Jitsu—whenever you say that, most people immediately picture BJJ (without having any clue about traditional Jujutsu or what it actually entails, let alone Judo, Aikido, or the "modern" versions...).

But "Kung Fu" can also mean painting, playing an instrument, cooking, or pretty much anything... in that case, it's better to be specific—use the term Wushu... though even then, Chinese practitioners usually just think of martial arts in general when they say Wushu. And Wushu includes DSJJ too... If we're talking specifically about Chinese martial arts, the only technically correct terms would be Kuo Shu (Mandarin) or Kwok Sut (Cantonese)... because, honestly, Kung Fu has nothing to do with fighting—it's more about skill, like the art of cooking...

Jujigatame said:You’re full of nonsense—you wouldn't know Kung Fu if it hit you. And just to correct your "info," Kung Fu equals Wing Chun,

I've written about this a hundred times already... what people generally mean when they say "Kung Fu," Wing Chun doesn't even fall under that umbrella🙄. Saying Wing Chun equals Kung Fu is like saying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu equals Kung Fu... it's neither more nor less... I really don't know why Jujigatame doesn't read my blog with any actual comprehension🙄... ☕

True, and you have to remember that Chekhov's Wing Chun is both internal and external...

at which point you can finally charge your Grand master Lei'lui—or whatever niche technique you've mastered—for the sheer art of 🙏staring at a screen and practicing your "skills."
Just give it a few more years, maybe reach the 20,000th post, and they'll finally realize that sitting behind a computer is enough to sustain their existence and satisfy every basic need: *Transire suum pectus mundoque potiri*, che!—via the internet, obviously...

🙂 Laugh all you want, guys... but the future of combat lies exactly in computer tech and virtual battlefields.😳

I'm always right, 🙂 glad to see you're making steady progress! 🙂

btw. you don't actually need martial arts for self-defense...

Jonathan Johnson67 said:If you already know that, then why bother training Wing Chun at all?
PS. This question goes out to all Wing Chun practitioners out there.

-I didn't say everyone is selling smoke... but 98% of them are... personally, if I were looking to send my son to learn from a real master outside of the States, I'd look toward someone like Gary Lam...

-As for me, I learned from someone I trained with, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. 👍 🙏

-Maybe I oversimplified my point—I didn't quite lay it out clearly enough... the thing is, if you want an actual expert to show you real skill—to actually commit themselves to your progress—you first have to earn their trust... and you don't get that just by taking a quick trip to Hong Kong or something... that was the essence of my post... there's that traditional Chinese approach of 3 years + 3 years + 3 years... 😉 Americans tend to want everything overnight—instant gratification—that's just the mindset here... the Chinese view things differently... though, they've become very clever at adapting to those Western demands, which is how they turned Wing Chun into such a massive success... just to give you some perspective, GGM Ting has roughly 1,000,000 students worldwide in his organization... which is a huge number, and frankly, a massive amount of money... so yes, true Wing Chun masters do exist... they're in the minority, sure... but they're out there... just don't expect any of them to take you under their wing for serious instruction overnight...

It just doesn't exist.
It's nothing more than a sales pitch being pushed here.

Ask yourself—doesn't it seem weird that you've been hearing these fairy tales for months now, yet you haven't seen or heard anything concrete?
You won't.

If we're talking about Wing Chun, the most anyone from the so-called "real" industry has ever shown is some video typical of those bad fantasy martial arts—an old guy from Asia in a white gi performing some useless kata against a "live" opponent.

- Stipe -

this "guy"—who they call a "master"🤣 always gives me a good laugh... especially when I remember certain details about him🤣 🤣 🤣 🙏 😁

Jonathan Johnson67 said:-So how are you actually supposed to learn decent Wing Chun then?
-Based on this, it sounds like every instructor is just going to take a massive pile of cash without teaching you anything useful.

-It's tough...
-That’s just my take on it, anyway...

Eric Jackson43 said:Based on what you’ve been saying, it sounds like all these Wing Chun masters are just materialistic cowards competing to see who can scam more people out of their cash while peddling broken techniques. 😉

I think you might have a point there... I wouldn't go so far as to say they're intentionally setting out to defraud people, but when it comes down to it, most of them are definitely driven by the almighty dollar. As for the whole "selling bad technique" issue, you really have two distinct groups here:
1) The ones who actually know their stuff but won't just hand it over to some random guy you made up—some Joe Schmoe expecting a Chinese master to just happily pass down ancient secrets to him on a silver platter. You have to remember that until the mid-1950s, Wing Chun was mostly kept strictly within families... and specifically among Chinese practitioners. Ip Man was the first one to really present Wing Chun to the public, but even then, he wasn't looking to teach Americans; he wanted to teach Chinese students. Even Bruce Lee faced pushback from Ip Man because he wasn't fully Chinese himself...
2) The ones who don't know anything at all and just spend their time teaching nonsense and garbage.
