Around this time last year, I was staring down a massive exam. I’d been grinding for it for months—varying degrees of intensity, you know how it goes—but about a week before the big day, total panic set in. I was studying non-stop, fueling my anxiety with endless cups of coffee, and sleep became a complete stranger. I was lucky if I managed three or four hours of restless, terrible sleep.
My mom—who usually treats all medication like it’s poison—actually went out to the pharmacy herself to grab some Persen. And honestly? It’s total garbage. Just herbal tea in a pill form. The instructions said a standard dose was two tablets. Well, not only did I stay wide awake, but it didn't soothe my nerves one bit; it was completely ineffective. So, two nights later, I doubled down and took four. Still nothing.
The leftovers are still sitting in my drawer.
But ever since then—there is absolutely no way I am letting myself spiral like that again. I have a few more major exams coming up, but no way—I’d much rather take them at a slower pace than endure that kind of academic meltdown once more. 😎
That’s actually why I’ve pushed back several exams already; just the thought of it 😳makes me hit a wall of panic immediately, knowing I'll have to spend an entire week cramming just to stay afloat.
You really have to start early... 😁 😁

Oh, we're satisfied, darkbison81, believe me! I would never dream of forcing my sister to eat lamb just for the sake of it. 😉
I’ve been on Triquilar for about two years now—nothing too crazy, really—and the only side effects I ever dealt with were some mild nausea. It would usually kick in during those first two or three days whenever I started a fresh pack, specifically around the four-hour mark after taking the pill (basically right when it hits your bloodstream and starts absorbing). Other than that, everything has been perfectly fine. I actually just took my first three-month break after these two years, strictly because I wanted to have my doctor check that my ovaries are still functioning normally as they should.
It’s definitely smart to double-check with your gynecologist if you're feeling unsure about anything. 👍

And here I was, foolishly hoping there might be a little pill to fix it all.🙄 😉

I suppose I’ve just fallen victim to good old-fashioned *laziness vulgaris*—if you can call it that. Honestly, once I got used to lounging around while dealing with the flu, I simply decided to make a habit of it!

believe me on that one...

So, are you actually treating it?
If you are, I’d love to hear your method.
As for me, the less I have on my plate, the more I drift into lethargy. 🙄
I’ll spend the entire day glued to the TV or staring at a computer screen, eventually losing the motivation to even walk down to the corner store. But—and this is the kicker—when I'm stuck working a full shift at the plant, I somehow manage to get everything done. The issue is that I can't exactly stay "in gear" when I'm at home trying to study. And frankly, that's the part I just can't bring myself to do. 🙄 😠
mellowwalker22 said:Regarding amino acids—well, they find those in plant sources too.

Honestly, I can't think of anything more nonsensical than that statement. 🙄

How on earth do you expect "animal" amino acids to exist in plants? It's a fundamental biological error. And as for the fetal development argument—I didn't just pick that up from some obscure corner of the internet; I heard it during my time at medical school. Yes, certain nutrients are vital for fetal growth, absolutely, but that doesn't mean a child won't be born if you miss a specific requirement.
Is it healthy? Well, within the context of a balanced diet, it’s much like most other things. When it comes to meat, pork is fundamentally the best option for humans—mostly because pigs, much like us, are social creatures. Personally, I will always choose local lard over some genetically modified soy any day of the week.
If someone claims to be a vegan, as you suggested, then why is it that certain animal-based amino acids remain absolutely essential for fetal development?
Besides, you don't need to join some cult just because you don't eat pork. You can simply dislike it—much like how I can't stand kale.
Sinus ultrasound: What to expect? in Health ·
Good grief, my sinuses are killing me!
I won't even get into my usual annual bouts of inflammation—I’ve basically accepted those as a part of my life at this point—but for the second time now, I’m dealing with something entirely new. The right side of my face is aching, stretching from my teeth all the way down past my eye, and there's this nagging sensation that the whole area is slightly swollen and just... full. 😕 I can’t clear anything out, yet the pressure in that specific spot is constant. On the rare occasions I actually manage to clear something, it's thick and 🤮. Last time, the pressure just suddenly broke after a few days, and an incredible amount of discharge came pouring out.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here?
Ugh, absolutely disgusting...

Nancy Price46 said:I am honestly at my wit's end because of all the snoring....

Does anyone actually believe these earplugs do anything at all???

Look, I personally rely on those plugs—say, when I'm on an overnight Greyhound bus—just so I don't have to hear every single sigh from the passenger next to me. Or if I've been working late and need to catch some sleep in the morning, knowing my sister is an early riser who’ll be rummaging through her closet or whatever—if I have my earplugs in, the sound of a closet door opening won't wake me. Even her congested breathing during the night doesn't bother me.

BUT—

if someone is talking loudly right next to you, you're going to hear them.
That's why I think you can still hear it if, for example, your husband is snoring away in the same bed as you.
Or even an alarm clock sitting right by your head.

In my opinion, it might still be worth trying for $1.75.
Blondie makes a fair point; it isn't exactly a luxury, but some people can tolerate it while others simply can't. Of course, if you're currently being disturbed by whistling in your ears instead of snoring, then there's really no point.

Sam Jackson29 said:But how are you supposed to actually hear the alarm at 6:00 AM if it's ringing? 😁

Personally, I deal with this exact same headache...

The solution is to find one of those "aggressive" alarms—the kind that just won't shut up!😁
First, you catch a bit of noise, you toss and turn, you wonder, "What on earth...?", rip out whichever earplug is closest, and then—boom—the alarm hits you with full force. After a few days of doing that, you might eventually start waking up without a massive migraine.😉

Like I mentioned before, these earplugs aren't magic; they don't make everything silent. They just dampen things like snoring enough so it isn't quite as grating, allowing you to actually drift off.

I can hear my alarm perfectly fine (once I follow the routine above), but I don't hear my sister rustling around the room in the morning—which, frankly, would have woken me up otherwise.

Get yourself some earplugs!
I’m being serious—you can pick up those $1.75 types at any local drugstore, if you can actually tolerate having things in your ears while you sleep. Personally, I rely on them whenever I’m out camping or staying somewhere where there's a constant chorus of snorers and random rustling sounds. It won't give you total, absolute silence, but it definitely muffles the chaos.
Give it a shot👍

p.s. the only downside is that the wake-up feels a bit more abrupt, since you aren't being gradually roused by the usual morning sounds

I’d actually suggest seeing a psychologist rather than a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists tend to focus more on the clinical side of things—they're doctors, after all—dealing with more severe pathologies. For someone your age, a psychologist seems much more appropriate; you likely just need a space where you can vent, pour your heart out, and have someone provide an objective perspective on the roots of your restlessness—or whatever it is that’s driving you to seek help in the first place. If you haven't completely lost your grip on reality, dealing with a psychologist is probably a better move than heading straight to a psychiatrist. You could try talking to friends, sure, but a professional will give you much more grounded advice since they aren't emotionally entangled in your life.

Betty Hill82, much appreciated.
I’m going to head straight out and give this a shot—and perhaps, if I'm being honest with myself, I might actually try to get to bed at a reasonable hour tonight.
Best,😘

Oh, sure, because what we all really need right now is more exercises!
I frequently find myself waking up feeling even more exhausted than when I finally crawled into bed the night before. Perhaps my muscles are cramping up too—it's hard to say. Honestly, how on earth are they supposed to actually relax during sleep if they won't just let go? It's infuriating, really.😠

Joshua Jones said:I’ve been having a real issue lately... For some reason, I just can't seem to wake up—it feels like it takes a hundred years. Even when I go to bed early, I still can't manage to get up at the time I want to; I just end up sleeping an absurd amount. I have so much studying to do and I really need to get some discipline together and start rising early, but lately... it's just not happening. Does anyone have any advice? What could be the reason behind this?
What should I do?
😢

Every night, I set my alarm for around 8:30 PM. As soon as it goes off, I just slam the lid shut—if I give myself even five more minutes, I don't end up seeing the light of day until 11 AM.😲
I dream an insane amount during that window, and I wake up feeling completely exhausted from all those dreams.
I love sleeping in, but I could always manage to force myself to be disciplined, especially before a big exam. But lately... there were days I barely managed to drag myself out of bed in time to make it to the test—and usually, if I'm running late like that, my stomach starts knotting up from the nerves before the sun is even up.
Still, I think I know what the root cause is—I absolutely loathe this exam I'm studying for. And since I actually failed it, I suppose I find it even more "delightful" now.
I'm going to take three or four days for myself to just type away at this screen at all hours without a shred of guilt—or do something else entirely—and sleep in whenever I feel like it. After that, it'll be a strict regime of early mornings—I'll probably have to beg my sister to shake me awake and blast music until I'm upright—then it's study, study, study. I'll also cut out the late afternoon caffeine and stop going out until this exam is finally behind me. Hopefully, I can catch a decent rhythm, because I can't keep living like this.
Amelie in Movies ·
I absolutely love Amelie—mostly because when she starts listing off all those little quirks about who likes what, I actually see pieces of my own personality reflected back at me.
Of course, she’s just a mosaic of different people stitched together. For instance: I’m a total hypochondriac + I can’t stop popping those tiny air bubbles + I find the sound of cracking knuckles oddly satisfying 😁
It’s those specific, granular details that I find so compelling; they tell you so much more about a person than the usual, boring way we introduce ourselves—you know, "Hi, I'm this person, I'm this age, and I work at this company."
On a side note, I actually visited that little bar where they filmed the movie 🙂
