Wedding cakes and desserts in Weddings ·
Alex Moore28 said:And yet, here we are, having spent two whole pages just bickering! 🙄 🙄

Let's get back on track: in your honest opinion, which desserts are absolute "NO GOs" at a wedding?

Edit: excluding peach cobbler, obviously. 😬

The overly messy ones, I guess. Even though I'm a sucker for frosting,🙂
I prefer stuff that won't fall apart everywhere so you can actually eat them with your hands.

Also those weird "healthy" ones that look like chocolate but then you bite into them and—surprise!—it's just dates or some other health food substitute.😬

Zachary Gray35 said:Of course what guests like matters... look, I had a few vegetarians show up, so obviously I made sure they had their own dedicated menu... but honestly, with this many different kinds of desserts (I still can't believe I'm even explaining this), if someone isn't feeling peach pastries and would rather grab some Raffaello truffles, why the hell would they pick something they don't like? At the end of the day, the couple has to make a call on the varieties, and naturally, they go by their own tastes and what they know. Are you seriously suggesting someone was "unhappy" just because my peach pastries didn't look pretty enough to be included in the final 15 selections out of a hundred possible options? Especially since I provided perfectly good alternatives. Your comparison doesn't hold water—you can't compare a main meat course to a spread of 100 different bite-sized sweets served as a dessert course. It's not two choices; it's a hundred. I bet there were other treats people loved that didn't even make the cut either... like chocolate lava cakes... I don't think those were there either (though I'm not positive). Does anyone actually get the point of this argument?

Yeah 😁 the point is that I am going to force my friends from the Midwest to stop pestering me about wanting pork sausage at weddings and start serving me lamb instead! 😬

Bravo! That was exactly my point, though perhaps it was difficult to grasp. If they aren't considering their guests, they might as well just have dinner with the wedding party and eat whatever they personally enjoy.

Personally, I think any decent wedding menu should have at least something for everyone.

Joseph Watson10 said:I am fundamentally in agreement with vekmarica. While I certainly understand that this is your wedding day, why invite guests if you have no regard for their preferences? It would be akin to, say, hosting a group of vegetarians but serving nothing but pork because you and your husband happen to prefer bacon and sausage over anything green.

Hey, hold on—we are talking about one specific dessert here. Some kind of peach cobbler. I honestly had no idea this whole peach situation was such a massive deal 🤣 🤣 🤣 or that it's some universally beloved staple that selfish newlyweds are refusing to provide for their guests?

I mean, at these weddings, there are usually like 80 different types of sweets on the table. If you can't find a peach cobbler, you aren't exactly going to die of heartbreak, right?

I wouldn't even compare it to the vegetarian thing, because vegetarians fundamentally won't eat meat—so yeah, they’ll definitely go hungry at a "meat-only" wedding, which is actual disrespect.

But if you can't find the exact dessert you want, you just grab something else and move on! Everyone is the same in that regard.😛

That is why we aren't doing a traditional cake at our wedding. Instead, we’re going to pick up an assortment of high-end chocolates—think Ferrero Rocher, Lindt, Ghirardelli, and various truffles—and arrange them beautifully in large glass bowls so guests can indulge.
As for whether the older generation will approve... frankly, I do not care. This is my wedding, and we are running it exactly how we want to run it.

🙂

That is a killer idea.
To me, wedding cakes and pastries are completely useless and flavorless. Those little fruit tarts look so artificial they're almost offensive! I have no clue why anyone thinks they're a "must-have" for a wedding. 😕

amberotter28 said:Can anyone point me toward where all the chocolate shops are located in Chicago??

You’ve got options on Michigan Avenue—just past the intersection, there's that Miami chocolate shop, and I think there's one similar (or at least close enough) over on Adams Street right behind the Small Town, USA pub.
I know there was something like that near Downtown Manhattan too, but I have no clue if they're still open.

Well, if that's what you're looking for...😉

where's the meat?
In my opinion, we should cut out the processed deli meats... but definitely bring in some higher quality cuts of meat instead.

For lunch, I sometimes have beef stew, other times just chicken and potatoes.

Well, here's the meat, for example.
But instead of potatoes, maybe some leafy greens would work better.😉

Brandon Thomas89 said:I think so. Contacts aren't really meant for constant, all-day wear; they’re more of a supplement to glasses. When your eyes start feeling strained, you just swap them out for your frames. It's not like you're going to walk around blind...🤣

Look, for me personally, my doctor actually told me to avoid wearing glasses whenever possible. I only pull them out for specific situations. My eyes—and honestly, my brain—get way more fatigued from the glasses than they ever do from contacts, and they give me massive headaches.😉

Brandon Thomas89 said:Why can't you just combine contacts and glasses? It's simple—if you aren't wearing lenses, you wear glasses.
The only real issue with cycling might be wind or dust, but that’s hardly a dealbreaker.
Plus, you can always just grab some daily disposables. You can order them online at www.lensway.com, and they'll show up at your door in about a week.

That doesn't apply to every type of lens or every pair of glasses out there! 😉

Look, I never said it was impossible—in fact, I think it's totally doable—but I'm not an eye doctor. I'm just speaking from my own experience, and honestly, your optometrist isn't going to bite if you ask them for their professional opinion!

And whatever you do, don't go ordering lenses online before actually getting an eye exam. Not even the dailies!

briskridge73 said:What’s everyone’s experience been with contact lenses? How do they hold up during running, soccer... basketball, or cycling? I’d grab a pair just so I could actually be active without my glasses being a total pain in the neck.

My bad on the typo! I guess I'm too used to typing in CS instead of paying attention to my autocorrect. 🙂

That sounds awesome! 👍 Honestly, you won't even think about them once they're in.
The only thing might be cycling—you have to watch out for dust getting in your eyes, similar to how wind affects you, but you can always just throw on some sunglasses or wrap-around sports shades.

If this is strictly for athletics, I’d suggest looking into daily disposables—that way, you only pop them in when you're heading out to play.
Just make sure to check with an eye doctor if switching back and forth between contacts and glasses is totally fine for your specific prescription; I wouldn't want to give you bad advice. 😉

If you actually take a second to read through the side effects and contraindications for Dexamethasone, you’ll lose all interest in just eyeballing the dosage and dropping it into your eyes whenever you feel like it.

It’s not like I know anything, right? Just "refresh the contact lenses" and let's get to dripping, and we'll see how that works out for us.

Personally, my ophthalmologist gave me a completely different set of instructions for my specific issues than what was printed on the bottle, so I’m telling you—just listen to a doctor.
