That’s actually the saddest part about this whole thing.

Not quite.

Jose Miller17 said:I don't recall Verhoeven ever actually stitching together two great films—it's hard to say he was even good to begin with before he lost his way...

Spot on. It's just a perpetual sine wave of directorial inspiration.—nothing more.

ruggedmarlin15 said:Quoted—damn it. Either way, the point remains the same, so I don't see the issue.

Actually, I didn't write it; I quoted it. But it’s effectively the same thing.

ruggedmarlin15 said:Grlicev's film already had its premiere in Napa Valley, not San Francisco. It's a great piece.

It's like a friend inviting me over just to flip through a photo album of his son.

ruggedmarlin15 said:No, that makes me sound like a laborer. Clearly, some things just escape you.
This is pure nonsense. Do you work for free? Or are you a "parasite" too? I love people who act disgusted by getting paid for actual work. You're hilarious. So-called "ultra-cultured guerillas." Pure satire.

Here's the reality. I work in this industry year-round—usually six days a week, ten hours a day. I actually know the people you're trying to defend; I've worked with them, and I've personally witnessed their constant, blatant theft. People like you brush up against them once a year and suddenly think you understand how festival budgets work, what those people's true ambitions are, or how far they'll go to get what they want. You have no idea. You truly have no clue. So, if you aren't interested in how much money is actually made for "work performed," then just plug your ears and live in your self-induced illusion of having facts. I'm done with you here.

ruggedmarlin15 said:You’d have to be delusional to think Steven Spielberg would suggest moving his Napa Valley project—which he helped launch—over to San Francisco. Especially since, as you pointed out, those Napa Valley screenings are packed.

😕 Did I say the Napa Valley screenings were full? No—I said the organizers brag about them being full, even though if you ignore the main event, they aren't actually pulling any weight. Here is the quote:
northerncrane4 said:Well, here is the real issue. Does this festival even matter if most screenings are just for accredited press? Particularly when you look at the organizers' media statements—pitching the Secretary of Commerce to host them in San Francisco because their screenings are always "full," unlike the ones in San Francisco.

Fraudster.

ruggedmarlin15 said:Who in their right mind would walk away from a successful festival?

Who in their right mind would refuse to screen a film they claim to be incredibly proud of? What even defines "right mind" here?

ruggedmarlin15 said:And for what motive? To help some sleepy government-funded festival that pulls in several times more funding from the state? Come on, man, get it together.

Do you actually realize what you just wrote, or are you just playing dumb?

ruggedmarlin15 said:Maybe you misread some subtle provocation in the papers again?

Seems likely.

ruggedmarlin15 said:I use my time in Napa Valley for work. And fun (if I have time). It's more than enough for me.

That makes you a parasite. A loyal one, sure, but still a parasite. Because we aren't talking about work—we're talking about, as you put it earlier, profit.

Spot on observation.

ruggedmarlin15 said:I’m older than you—assuming I can actually "trust" that profile of yours.

And what's your shoe size?

ruggedmarlin15 said:So you're saying the exact opposite of what Polimcev wrote in his article two weeks ago? Strange. Actually—I think you’ve got your wires crossed here.

You really ought to make use of your time in Napa Valley—actually, you really should—to get to know the people whose principles you defend so blindly.

ruggedmarlin15 said:God, how pedantic... You know, someone might actually say you have some "serious" issues.

Let’s wrap this up. After you repeatedly insisted I answer a completely pointless question—thinking I was bluffing—and I gave you the most direct answer possible, while suggesting you might want to actually address one of my many questions just to maintain some balance in Space... are we really jumping to conclusions about me being anal? Clever.

ruggedmarlin15 said:The video store over in Napa Valley actually has the first and only 14-disc DVD-box Python—PAL format and R2. Oh, yeah.

I have no idea—I just found it there. And you clearly weren't even there, considering you suggested I messed up by buying some NTSC version—all based on my own claim about owning the DVD-box Python.

Basically, just pure misery and grief.

Sure—interests perfectly capture my attitude toward you, and my job suggests I’m not quite as clueless as you’d like to believe. Fine, I see you aren't responding; I guess I don't fit your little theory.
ruggedmarlin15 said:P.P.S. I'm still waiting on that source you mentioned regarding moving Napa Valley to San Francisco.

In the "Culture" section of the New York Times from maybe three or four months ago, there was an interview with Steven Spielberg where he proposed exactly what I stated.

So, what's your move? Maybe you'll try answering those pointed questions I threw at you—questions you chose to ignore? Just a reminder: you had one chance on the Python thread, too, where you tried to act informed, only to end up talking to thin air.

ruggedmarlin15 said:It’s honestly hilarious—these little girls who just can't stand the fact that other people actually know more than one language.

ruggedmarlin15 said:The crowd trying to cook up these half-baked arguments—they’re going to need a lot more experience before they even attempt to critique Millie.

On the subject of "video rental stores":
ruggedmarlin15 said:P.S. How old are you?

ruggedmarlin15 said:Little girl, you're being ridiculous.

ruggedmarlin15 said:I’ll say it again—grow up.

ruggedmarlin15 said:Grow up.

On the subject of "MTV":
ruggedmarlin15 said:Lord, you're right—but how exactly are we supposed to explain this to the little girls?

And so on. I can tell you're going through hell right now—honestly. My apologies if I was just another reason for your pain. I’ll do my best not to be—with a sincere hope that you finally make it big.

P.S. You’d come across as a lot more credible if you actually put a birth year in your profile—even if you have to make one up. Right now, you just look like some bitter fake.

slyrider16 said:The earliest films were mediocre at best—though understandable given the production standards of the time.

*Dark Star* is a masterpiece.
glupinickname said:Oh, great. So instead of Disney cartoons, he’d rather watch some crusty old geezer in nothing but swim trunks. Fantastic. I bet he’d even wear those disgusting little briefs—instead of actual boxers, which is what decent elderly men should be wearing by now.

And then he'd want to sit in my lap and tell me some bedtime story in that pathetic, shaky old man voice? Yeah—not a chance.

glupinickname said:See, that's the problem! Leslie is all hyped up because he was a *ninja*—which is supposedly the coolest thing ever. Gunther, on the other hand, wouldn't care about that just because he's Swab. His ninja training would be totally overshadowed. Honestly, I guarantee the Nazis would have claimed those Eastern martial arts were garbage anyway, insisting a true hero masters the saber and the MP40. Total Euro-trash amateurs. For a ninja, the body is the ultimate weapon!

You're overhyping Leslie Elridge way too much. Donald Siebert would absolutely wreck him. And then Heazy would show up just to finish the job while he's lying there in a pool of his own blood.

glupinickname said:Those lab-grown GMO Aryans bred in a greenhouse.

They already have that—so what?
casualotter21 said:Jazz, Mendelssohn's music, and those old Disney classics.

Who cares about old Disney cartoons—not when Disney is spending the summer vacationing in Malibu.

casualotter21 said:I bet they wouldn't let them print those ninja novels.😬

Of course they would. The Japanese are allies. Only thing is, the protagonist wouldn't be named Leslie Elridge—it'd be Gunther Schliefenacht.

quietdriver3 said:well, nothing would be written about us in an encyclopedia:

😁 😁

Give me a break. And who else would be winning the FIFA World Cup?

ruggedmarlin15 said:The media wouldn't even lift a finger without a hook—those "artsy" titles don't mean a thing to them. They only care about the Hollywood connection, and you know it.
What does any of this have to do with New York? I said they would normally include blockbuster comedies—and you’re pivoting to some actor who starred in one that was NEVER even in the lineup.

The whole point is that they're leveraging the popularity of blockbusters like that for marketing. From my perspective—as an outside observer—it feels like the reason these big comedies aren't hitting the Sundance Film Festival isn't because the board lacks interest, but rather a simple lack of budget.
ruggedmarlin15 said:I’m sorry—but what exactly do you mean by "q-rac"?

Wow—you’re really something else. A total jerk.
ruggedmarlin15 said:Spot the "if." If you actually can...

Your usage of the word "if"—the way you're twisting it now—doesn't carry the meaning you're trying to claim it does.
I just gave her an answer—simple as that. I’m not sure why you’re taking this so personally (unless she is).ruggedmarlin15, you wrote: "If" is a conjunction in your sentence—meaning you didn't actually leave any room for the possibility that your answer hit the mark—instead, you flatly asserted it didn't, even though it likely did for me.
Just a heads-up—I see you’re getting pretty worked up over your own interpretations of certain words.
ruggedmarlin15 said:And maybe she was—I mean...

Which ones?
ruggedmarlin15 said:Poor little girl...

As far as I know—and there’s really only one declared "Happy Child" in all of America anyway—it's hardly a crowded field.
ruggedmarlin15 said:Excuse me—are we attempting an objective discussion here?

Only halfway.
ruggedmarlin15 said:I suspect you’d be demanding the Sundance Film Festival issue everyone full refunds if they didn't enjoy a movie—judging by your track record so far.

So you're concluding—based on everything I’ve written so far—that because an audience pays for a ticket, they have some inherent right to publicly slam the quality of the films they see?
ruggedmarlin15 said:Aren't you using words a bit too big for your age?

And what exactly is my "age"—since you seem to be an expert on the subject?
ruggedmarlin15 said:Exactly. But your logic doesn't apply to the whole festival—why? Because journalists don't make up the bulk of the audience at the main screenings. Not even close.

If you actually knew how to compare the number of "main" screenings against the side shows, you wouldn't be standing a chance.
ruggedmarlin15 said:Hardly. It's nearly impossible. Besides, I think you've got things mixed up.

You’re always "thinking" something. Try doing the bare minimum and checking some news archives.
ruggedmarlin15 said:It helps cover the budget, but it isn't profitable because the scale is too small compared to the overhead. I won't repeat myself...

It covers enough of the budget that ticket prices aren't just symbolic.
ruggedmarlin15 said:And proud of it..

It wasn't exactly obvious.
Gerald Barrett25 said:The Republicans aren't stupid—far from it—but their edge runs deeper than that. Historically, the Democratic Party has been the one driving social progress in the US. Anyone trying to implement meaningful change in any society faces resistance; usually, the broader public aligns itself with a single, clear political initiative rather than obsessing over some complex party platform. You can't just wander around claiming you support same-sex marriage while calling Bush an idiot—it’s flawed logic—because if you reject one thing without much thought, people assume you reject everything else. Furthermore, the Democratic Party is less consistent and homogeneous than the Republicans; it's a collection of various views and beliefs, whereas the Republicans stick to a few simple mantras. A quick look at internal primaries tells the story: Republican debates often devolve into mudslinging against specific personalities—look at how Bush secured the nomination over McCain in 2000—while Democrats focus on carefully calculating a policy program designed to guarantee the broadest possible support, much like Kerry's selection in 2004.

What are you even talking about? We're discussing blockbuster movies—9/11, Passion, and which one pulled more numbers.

Gerald Barrett25 said:By the way, there's only one US president who wasn't from a Southern state—and even he was assassinated.

I know, I know. Is that the guy who escalated the war in Vietnam and brought the world to the brink of nuclear holocaust?
casualotter21 said:If people like that had been around during the war, everyone would be singing the Horst Wessel Lied today.

And what exactly would we be missing? 🙂
quietdriver3 said:The Republicans had their own campaign run that year too... featuring Gibson's "Passion" 😁 😁
his was actually more watched 😁

So, apparently the dim-witted Republicans outmaneuvered the supposedly brilliant Democrats. What kind of world are we living in? ☕

ruggedmarlin15 said:I’d only be an apologist if they screened the wrong movie at a festival and I turned to you and said, "Whatever—the festival has the right to do what it wants."

Aha. TO So, that's the meaning of "apologist." My bad—I used the word in the wrong context.

ruggedmarlin15 said:And who exactly are "the media"? A festival?

The media simply mirrors whatever narrative the festival directors decide to feed them regarding an actor.

ruggedmarlin15 said:What were they actually supposed to do? Bring Jason and the press along just to hide that he was attending the festival? Or list his entire filmography while conveniently leaving out "American pita"—the one he’s probably most famous for?

No! Quite the opposite—don't you dare mention any of his films except for "American pita"!

ruggedmarlin15 said:Well, that should be obvious.

It’s all pretty obvious to me—but hey, good for you.

ruggedmarlin15 said:I just gave her an answer—that's all. I have no idea why you're taking this so personally (unless she is).

Where exactly are you getting the idea that she wasn't affected? — Maybe she just hasn't been on Reddit in the meantime.
Every bit of unearned arrogance gets under my skin—I can't help it. I guess I’m just an immature kid at heart.

ruggedmarlin15 said:What is this? You trying to troll me? It’s not working, man. I actually work at the festival—I don't exactly have time to rub elbows with the elite. Between the grind and the actual labor, there's no room for that. Besides, if I did find time to party, the big shots wouldn't even show up anyway. So, what's the point?

Yeah, I just wanted to confirm one thing—you’re an employee of the festival, which means you aren't exactly coming at this discussion from any position that could be called objective.

ruggedmarlin15 said:Not exactly. You could organize a festival too—if you think you have what it takes.

Me? As in—infantile and clueless? Hard to believe.

ruggedmarlin15 said:Do I know ahead of time if every single movie is worth the price of admission? No.

Exactly. I don't know. And if I watch it and decide it wasn't worth what I paid—I’m not going to hold back from saying so. That's my right as a consumer. It seems this whole concept is causing you some serious cognitive dissonance.

ruggedmarlin15 said:Hahaha, don't even try it. Saying "MOSTLY accredited journalists attend"—you're being ridiculous.

I'm the ridiculous one? You claimed the audiences for non-central screenings consist mostly of accredited press, which makes their ticket revenue negligible and irrelevant to my equation. You've pulled so many backflips during this thread that I'm starting to think you're an Olympic gymnast.

ruggedmarlin15 said:You mean, do organizers host San Francisco films? And yes, the screenings are packed.

No, I mean the festival should move to San Francisco. And they're "packed," according to you, because they're full of accredited journalists.

ruggedmarlin15 said:You wouldn't? Everything for free, huh? Nothing in life is truly free, kid.

Oh, look—we've reached the "folk wisdom" stage. Does that imply there's "nothing for free" simply because ticket sales provide a necessary buffer for the festival budget? I feel like I'm being incredibly redundant here, but apparently, getting a straight answer from you is impossible.

ruggedmarlin15 said:Volunteers in Savannah get room and board. So, they aren't exactly working for free either, right? [/B]

Hm. An interesting apology—(damn it, there I go again!)—for a slave-labor system.

ruggedmarlin15 said:It's enough to just quote your own posts. Everything is perfectly clear.

Yes. Especially for a festival employee.
Jose Miller17 said:The guy was trying to sway voters away from Bush with a movie, but instead, he realized he might as well just end it all 🤣... honestly, this is pure insanity 🤣 🤣

Damn it—when you see that even after a film that brilliantly exposes him, Bush still wins the election—this time by an even larger landslide—you're left with nothing but self-destruction. You realize there’s no point; any "righteous" action isn't just futile, it's actively counterproductive and destined to fail.
quietdriver3 said:It’s honestly staggering how little self-control—or even basic consideration—goes into making such sweeping, final "judgments" as the one above. Though, knowing the author, I suspect this is more of a self-serving exhibition than an actual statement born from the nausea and despair that true reflection usually triggers.

Yeah, interpretations can be messy. I have zero doubt that living in a country under Bush's leadership feels unbearable for many—people get desperate enough to take self-destructive paths, especially when a film that exposes the current global mess offers no hope for the future. Instead, it just tries to plant fear and paranoia—which, if I caught correctly from a documentary, are the primary drivers behind gun violence in the US.
Jose Miller17 said:Why depressed? ...antidepressants are just a joke to me.😁😁

I'm talking about the depression of characters.
