Man, he’s aged... he's basically turned into a total money hunter now... 🤷

Look, the guy’s sitting on seven different bank accounts—I mean, come on. Of course he's getting older... it’s only natural that he wants to go out there and grab whatever life is still willing to throw his way while he can... 🤷 Honestly, if they played their cards right with "42," they could easily snag an Oscar nomination... maybe even more than that...
Grace Alvarez56 said:I always thought Eric Roberts was incredible in *The Specialist*. It feels like luck hasn't quite swung his way the way it did for his sister; he clearly has the talent, but I think he just got swallowed up by too many B-movies.

Then you look at Dolph Lundgren 😬—he was solid in *The Expendables* and actually pretty decent in *Rocky*, too. It seems like he’s facing the same kind of career trajectory as Eric Roberts.

Honestly, Roberts managed to snag an Oscar nod for Runaway Train, so he can act. But The Specialist? That was just a total cash grab where he and James Woods basically collected their checks and headed for the exit...

But let's be real, the guy's been on a downward spiral for at least a decade now. I mean, damn, those dark times really did him in...

Honestly, Norton basically hijacks every single frame of that movie... if you hadn't mentioned it, I probably wouldn't have even realized 😁
was even in there...

T2 has one of the greatest villains ever put on screen, but man, everything just kind of fizzles out into mediocrity right after that. It's like they lost the spark and drifted into total obscurity. Such a shame.

What do you mean "faded"? The guy is everywhere—literally every series I flip on, there he is. And honestly, that Terminator role wasn't even his big career breakout; he really hit it big much later. He was basically just riding high after that, because he didn't really follow it up with anything legendary...

Joel Schumacher & Kiefer Sutherland (The Lost Boys, Flatliners, A Time To Kill, Phone Booth, Twelve)

Richard Donner & Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon 1-4, Maverick, Conspiracy Theory)

Peter Weir & Mel Gibson (Gallipoli, The Year of Living Dangerously)

Owe Boll & Michael Pare 😁 (Lord knows how many movies they did together)

Walter Hill & Nick Nolte (48 Hours 1-2, Extreme Prejudice)

Tony Scoot & James Gandolfini (The Last Boy Scout, True Romance, Crimson Tide, Pelham 123)
Jonathan Ke Quan. He absolutely killed it in Indiana Jones, which basically paved the way for his run in The Goonies—and then, well, he sort of drifted through some obscure TV shows before stepping away from the spotlight entirely...
Casey Cox2 said:Nah, I haven't really noticed him—mostly just caught him in *Clerks* and maybe *Caligula*, if I'm remembering right.🤷

Blue Thunder, Star Trek: Generations, Cat People... man, McDowell has such a massive filmography—he’s popped up in a ton of stuff, even some total classics. Roddy Pipper is great and all, sure, but for me, his role in *They Live* is pretty much his peak...
Berenger and Hauer are OHW? Come on, guys... those two are actors who basically have work year-round. It doesn't even matter if their movies are massive hits or total flops—if they're in the cast, you know there’s at least some level of quality there, or at least their specific instinct for a role, if nothing else. On the flip side, George Lazenby is definitely OHW, and I'd throw Jaye Davidson onto that list too, considering he did Stargate and The Crying Game and then just... vanished. The guy had serious potential, though... and then there's Carrie Henn from Aliens, who pretty much walked away from Hollywood right after that one.
Christian Taylor3 said:Of course they were whining about the "quality" of that babbling, the chat basically hit rock bottom like never before...

Look, it's a chat. Let me repeat that... c-h-a-t. Just because you have this preconceived notion that writing about cool albums somehow equals "quality"... it doesn't. For some people, it’s just a sign of boredom—one of the main reasons they avoided coming here in the first place.

You guys insulted a girl to her face,

Me? I'm gonna need some proof for that...

You're calling Lou Reed a hipster,

Me? Again, please provide some evidence...

like that unfortunate internet situation; you draw him a bright, neon yellow line with chalk saying speed increases aren't possible through payment. All for nothing, he just keeps honking his horn.

I have absolutely no clue what we're even talking about here.

You haven't just tanked it, you're well on your way to trolling it into oblivion.

You seem to be forgetting one pretty vital fact: a chat like this only exists because the moderators feel like keeping it alive. This kind of pressure—pushing elitism, calling out users, publicly deciding who does what in (emphasis on *C-H-A-T*) and what should be done—can very easily lead to a solution that wipes all these problems out entirely...
Christian Taylor3 said:Don't make me laugh. There’s probably a dedicated PDF just for jerking off—did it ever cross your mind to redirect users there instead?

If we were talking about masturbation as much as we talk about series, I'd be putting up neon blue signs with yellow bulbs to point the way...

A whole group of us—maybe 4 or 5 people—all agreed that the new movie chat is basically dead in the water. It’s not even about Harper, it’s just that people remember when this chat was actually good... had actual quality discussions, a place where you could actually pick up something useful.

You're kidding me, right?

horatius said:Good grief, man... what has this chat turned into? 😕

horatius said:Well, it turned into you, plus a few others. Anyway, peace out, I'm done here. ☕

From what I can see, people are just annoyed because Harper is in the chat (along with a couple of others). It's got nothing to do with the content itself—it's just the users...

And honestly, the people complaining about all this only started whining once that wave of new users arrived—people who never used to post here (myself included). So, yeah... the influx of new forum members is actually what sent this chat straight to hell...
neonsurfer6 said:I mean, the whole point of a recommendation is knowing if you can actually trust the person giving it. If I go asking questions over in the TV series section but I'm posting in the movie section, I have zero clue who's actually talking to me... just one way to look at it, anyway.

Honestly, I think your reply actually saved those people I was asking about 😁
Matthew Anderson4 said:It’s complicated, I know...

Not even slightly.

It’s basically an on-topic thread inside an off-topic sub-thread that somehow counts as on-topic for the off-topic section itself. The user is asking why something is considered off-topic in an off-topic space when, technically, what's off-topic here could be perfectly on-topic somewhere else... it's just a loop.

Anyway, can someone actually tell me why we don't just head over to the Series board when looking for a new series recommendation?
Joshua Smith5 said:Stop bringing up the same thing a thousand times... just write, participate in what you actually care about, ignore the stuff you don't, and call it a day.

Things really blew up a while back when a user straight-up said the chat had gone downhill— 🙄 —because they got ganged up on by other users, specifically Harper. So, it’s not the actual content that's the issue, it's just the people involved...

Christian Taylor3 said:Anything related to the audiovisual world is welcome here— nobody is going to ban discussions (or rather, suggestions, let's be real) about series (just keep the spoilers out of it).

So who's doing the banning?

And seriously, why wouldn't you ask for series recommendations in the Series section? Is the PDF moderation film sub too far away or something?...
Drew Sanchez82 said:I honestly don't get why some people... I can't quite make that out... you just dropped "chatu" without any context? If you were trying to say something about the chat or maybe meant to paste a post from someone else, go ahead and drop it in. I'm around... People are dropping movie suggestions right above the actual dedicated thread meant for that stuff... and then once everyone starts getting into other discussions, we get labeled as trolls or accused of off-topic spamming. It’s kind of ridiculous... I'm ready. Send over the posts you need me to rework. I'll make sure they sound like a real person living in the States—casual, a bit dry, and totally original—while following all those specific substitution rules for names and locations. Just drop the text whenever you're set... Man, I don't know about you guys, but the vibe in here is just... off lately. It feels like the energy is totally missing...

It feels way more hipster this way. Plus, they aren't even bothering to suggest movies anymore... shows... There’s actually a separate PDF for that... but honestly, my main gripe here is just how much some people seem to lose their minds when someone else pops into the chat. Like, seriously, chill out...
Heat (2014) in Movies ·
The new The Mechanic is total junk, so this remake doesn't stand a chance. I mean, the guy did direct The General's Daughter, which was actually decent enough—just a bit of a mess from a screenwriting standpoint...

Then again, it wouldn't surprise me one bit—considering we already have that Heat remake out there...

Patrick Martin said:No, briskhound2, I'm talking about a plot where North Korea attacks the US in a terrorist-style strike. ☕

Wait, wait, wait, hold up a second. 😕

Weren't you guys literally just in another thread making fun of viral campaigns and how they act like some kind of INNOVATIVE way to introduce a movie?

Now, suddenly, with this movie, everyone's acting like knowing the plot is a requirement.

Funny how that works. ☕

Technically, South Korea hit The White House because the guy was one of theirs. And you think that scenario is too unrealistic to grab a coffee over? Really? Wasn't Kim Jong Un basically fine-tuning his entire arsenal for a potential strike just a few days ago?

hold up, hold up, hold up... 😕

weren't you guys literally just mocking viral campaigns in another thread—you know, those "innovative" ways to hype up a movie.

What viral campaigns? That stuff is for movies that screw themselves over and then try to explain the subtext afterward. You watch the trailer, you get the plot. Simple as that.

suddenly, for this specific movie, having a clue about the plot is actually a good thing.

interesting... ☕

Not even close. It’s just kind of funny reading these "it's not realistic" comments. Like, what did people expect? A "realistic" movie where some guy successfully seizes The White House and single-handedly wipes out all the bad guys? 🤣

Patrick Martin said:And get this: that other flick is pure fantasy. It’s built on letting your imagination run wild. Honestly, that's the whole point. You gotta go into it without any baggage because, hey, it's a fantasy movie.

But this movie right here? This one deserves to be absolutely trashed because it tries way too hard to act like it’s some deep, relevant, serious piece of cinema. It’s just stupid.
It’s like, oh look, an attack on the White House! 😲 Oh man, the White House is under fire, how shocking! 😲
Bottom line? The whole goal behind OHF is just a quick, mindless cash grab. They’re straight-up insulting the audience's intelligence. It's just a massive scam to fleece the sheep.

Seriousness? In a movie about some guy single-handedly fixing half of North Korea? Give me a break with that kind of talk. And if we're talking about what the movie is actually trying to sell—man, we could go all day, not even mentioning the pseudo-spirituality, the religious bullshit, or those "fortune cookie" thoughts about whether we're alone in the universe... none of that makes any damn sense.

Speaking of what was mentioned earlier... did you guys even bother to check what the movie was actually about before watching? 🤣

Sean Johnson40 said:The movie isn't just bad because it's naive. It’s garbage from the jump. I sat through the first four minutes—the only part I actually watched straight through—and realized immediately there was nothing there. Just a hollow shell. No soul. Just a massive train wreck waiting to happen, which played out frame by frame.

I don't have much patience for naivety myself. It bugs me (maybe that's why I stay away from sci-fi; I prefer stuff rooted in real life), but what really gets to me is a stupid, empty movie that didn't even try to be good. It felt like they built it to be a total void, stuffed with all this "patriotic heroism" that doesn't mean a thing and does zero to make the story work. And those ridiculous, illogical scenes where the Americans just steamroll everything? That takes the stupidity to a whole new level. Only the absolute simplest people could enjoy that. Yet, somehow, it’s sitting at a 6.6 on IMDb. Yeah, sure, let's trust those critics.

Look, if you actually sit through all 100 minutes, then maybe we can take your opinion seriously. This constant thing where you claim the movie sucks without even watching it—that’s just trolling, and we don't do that here. So, just bite the bullet, man up, and watch the whole damn thing... be a hero... then come back and let's actually talk. Because this? This just doesn't work.
