Yeah, they lost, but man, what a finish! Iceland had a solid lead by a few goals right before the end—I think it was three goals in three minutes—plus a penalty. Then they bring in Lapajne, he saves the penalty and shuts down all those Icelandic attacks. The Americans end up just one goal down a minute before the whistle and go on the attack, playing through the pivot who takes a shot (maybe while being fouled?) and he makes the save too.

The defense is looking solid again, really holding the line. It's just the offense that's being a bit too sloppy lately. Honestly, Lacković needs to shake things up a bit, otherwise Hvidt is going to end up racking up ten defensive stops on his head alone.

doesn't stand a chance at stopping him.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Losert is actually a really solid keeper. But honestly? When he steps out for the national team, it’s like he isn't even there. He just doesn't play at his usual level. If I remember correctly, the last time he actually played like himself was back when we were playing in Athens. Something tragic happened to him then, and ever since, his performance for the US national team has been absolutely disastrous.

Honestly, anyone looking at this rationally would put Sterbik ahead of Shola. See, Shola is one of those "momentum" keepers—when he's feeling it, he's absolutely wild in the net, but when he's off, nothing gets past him. Sterbik is different. He’s consistent. No matter how he's playing, he's going to save a certain number of shots. And just imagine if he had the kind of defense our guys have, where most shots come from those wide angles where he actually excels.

I’m just crossing my fingers that Casper brings his A-game and doesn't start defending the indefensible like he usually does. I heard somewhere that their perimeter defense is looking pretty young and green, which is a bit worrying. Now, Boldsen and Jorgensen definitely have the experience, so if they can hold it together, we should be able to pull off a win by a few points. No big deal.
