Only people from this part of the world would think to make a movie about Appalachia... if there was anyone capable of actually making that kind of setting work for a Western audience, it would have been Sergio Leone back in the sixties, but that never happened 😁

The Undead movie is actually a newer thing, more of a parody... and honestly, you can't really compare them to a heavyweight Canadian director like Cronenberg, especially when you look at stuff like Shivers, Brood, Videodrome, or Rabid...
On the other hand, if we're looking at Japanese cinema, the Guinea Pig series is worth noting...
My only real issue is that I’ve never been much of a fan of Japanese cinema, so I tend to steer clear of the third tier
Aside from Cronenberg, though, you could probably slot early Craven films like Last House on the Left into that fourth category, along with things like Hopper’s Eaten Alive... there's plenty more where that came from, like Necromancy, Spit on Your Grave, or Thundercrack...
Every single genre has its share of absolute garbage, though I suppose trash doesn't quite reach cult status as effortlessly as it does in a Warner Bros. production... On one hand, you have cinematic achievements like *The Shining* or *Rosemary's Baby* that stand as legitimate masterpieces, but then you have the low-budget disasters like *Evil Dead* that somehow become even greater masterpieces because of how bad they are. If you look at the action genre, you've got solid films like *Die Hard* or *The Terminator* which aren't necessarily high art but are undeniably great movies, whereas on the other side of the spectrum, you're stuck with the endless grindhouse clutter produced by people like Godfrey... It’s just pure trash without any redeeming quality, and honestly, you see the same pattern playing out across every other genre too.

Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Zombie - Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later, the Evil Dead series, Resident Evil... they’re always drenched in blood, violence, and guts... There’s a certain tension when you have just a few people pitted against hundreds of undead spreading like a plague, leaving the ending completely unpredictable... And there's something satisfying about the gameplay in zombie titles, where a single precise headshot is all it takes to end them.
Another one who agrees with me, though I should probably point out that in Evil Dead, we aren't actually dealing with zombies, but demons...🙂
I’ve been wondering how that doctor of yours actually functions given he’s technically dead... specifically, how he manages to hold onto his sanity while wandering around eating brains with the rest of the Zombie - Dawn of the Dead crew... it's a question that keeps weighing on my mind
And honestly, just imagine if your doctor got bitten by a werewolf and started transforming under the full moon... now that would be something truly wild... a mega-evil doctor, a zombie, and a werewolf all rolled into one😎
Catatonic_Beaver said:those evil doctors are just playing themselves, always getting wrecked by their own creations🙂
well, if those evil doctors happen to be zombies too, they aren't exactly in a position to get wrecked by their own creations since one zombie isn't going to do anything to another... yeah, right...
Roger Allen3 said:Sure, he’s completely helpless against a ninja, there's no debating that, but I suspect he could take down a werewolf or a ghost, though watching that play out would be interesting... as for the cannibal, that's just ridiculous. Besides, a cannibal wouldn't bother with zombie meat; it’s far too stale. Cannibals go for the living. That evil doctor would probably dispatch a cannibal with a single stroke of a scalpel. And the vampire is even more absurd. What on earth is one vampire supposed to do with an uber-zombie that's already dead? He might as well just recruit him as muscle to do his dirty work.
What if that doctor of yours comes across some shady VHS tape, watches it, and then a voice tells him he’s got exactly seven days to live unless he solves a riddle....... what happens then???
but my doctor couldn't care less about any of that, since he's basically an uber-zombie himself... he actually commands the undead! he's one of them. for him, just having some mysterious woman show up at the asylum accompanied by an unexplained earthquake is enough reason to "return." he's clearly the chosen one...
Sure, I'll admit you're the heavy hitter here, commanding entire hordes of zombies... but you might want to look at the bigger picture, because what exactly is your doctor going to do if he gets jumped by a werewolf, a vampire, a ghost, a cannibal, or maybe even a ninja??
Roger Allen3 said:that evil doctor has gone way beyond just being a demon... besides, I haven't heard of any demons actually possessing corpses before🙂
Heh, only the strongest demons would know how to pull that off...😁
Roger Allen3 said:that evil zombie-doctor could probably whip up some kind of neutralizing serum in under two minutes.
I can't help but wonder what your doctor would resort to once he runs out of serum...😕
Roger Allen3 said:Possessed kids aren't even remotely frightening... it’s easy to play the heavy when you’ve got a literal demon living inside you. An evil zombie doctor fueled by demonic energy would be an absolute powerhouse, probably outclassing someone like Chuck Norris...
But let's be real, he wouldn't have that specific personality we know, he'd just be some demon stuck inside a doctor who happened to lose his mind, who happened to get taken out by some hero, only to crawl back twenty years later as a zombie with a hole in his forehead...

I remember that 1979 Nosferatu too, back when I was just a kid. That Kinski guy seriously didn't need any heavy makeup; you could have just given him some fake vampire teeth and called it a day 😁
I probably would have thrown in some mad scientists, feral kids, insane dentists, or various other monsters, but there just wasn't enough room left 😢
