Yes, she😬

Nah, it's actually over on Krizanic Avenue, right near the mosque.

wiredscout38 said:I know about that Jiu Jitsu, but man, it’s pricey—around $77 if I recall correctly. Plus, just two one-hour sessions a week feels a bit light.

Go three times a week,$50 and you'll be hitting the best Muay Thai in the US. Does that work for you?

but maybe people are thinking of something similar to Krav Maga? From what I've gathered, they market it as self-defense—at least that's how the news anchors on TV described it during that seminar segment—and everyone seems to be raving about it.

Don't worry about the "self-defense" part; it's that whole "course" terminology that bugs me.😉

self-defense course🤣
Learn to defend yourself against anyone in just 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week! Plus, if you call right now, you'll get this gorgeous cooking pot and hairbrush for free...
Sorry guys, I had to. Adam Fox5, stay far away from any "self-defense course."

There are a few clubs in the area. I train at a Thai boxing gym that’s pretty close to you. You've also got Quartic nearby, plus Dennis Survival Jiu Jitsu and a boxing gym sharing the same space, though I doubt their rates are exactly budget-friendly $67

For an ultimate training camp, should I go with Stip or Wrebox from this forum? Or will they just jump in and answer themselves?
Where are you based? How much are you willing to travel for training sessions? That’s a huge factor when you're hunting for the right gym recommendation.

Joshua Clark here. Just checking in. Everything is looking good on my end! kaže:
Injuries? Please. They don't phase me. I’m not exactly your typical lady.
Hey, Zake, you haven't shown me this before, have you? Where's your link??
Tomorrow is my first training session with that instructor I already lined up. If I don't like what I see, I'm calling for divine intervention!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS QUOTE:
There are girls in the club too. Do they go through the same drill?

Look, let’s get one thing straight. This is a Muay Thai gym. If you aren't looking for pain, sweat, and tears, then do us all a favor and head over to an aerobics class instead. I don't run this club by catering to the whims of my students; the students follow the club. Period.
If you're down with these terms and looking to train either competitively or just for fun, welcome to the Holly Spirit club!

Hey! Just popping in to say hello! Hope everyone is having an absolutely fantastic day! ✨

I told you I had a club in my backyard!
Damir is an absolute legend. Seriously, he’s a phenomenal coach who lives and breathes Muay Thai.

Joshua Clark said:Save that pity kiss for someone else. You have no idea how I handle my heavy bag work—you were pretty insulting about it, so don't judge before you know. (Sorry, you really got under my skin here.)
If you’re actually curious, I’ve got plenty of street experience. For me, the bag is just a way to blow off steam. Plus, now that I have a kid, I want to keep my training sessions in a controlled gym environment.
Yeah, I want contact. I'm down for sparring. Keep talking.

Look, trying to use "street experience" on a heavy bag is just a fast track to an injury, especially if you're just using it to vent. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about—I spent plenty of time on the streets before I ever stepped foot in a gym. Trust me, there are tons of guys who think like you (I used to be one of them too) and end up doing themselves a massive disservice.

Check this link for info on the club. They always have women training there, so don't worry about that. You won't be dealing with injuries, the environment is totally controlled, and the coaches are easily the best Muay Thai instructors in the country (okay, maybe that's biased, but I'm telling you the truth). The crew is awesome and the vibe is great.

Joshua Clark said:I called them up. They have Thai women for training on bags—just hitting the bag, no contact—but the guy who does contact training is specifically for men.
I’ve already got a heavy bag at home, so...

😘
Look, messing around with a bag by yourself at home is a completely different beast than having someone actually show you how to strike. You probably won't even get drilled properly. You’ll never work at the pace a real trainer forces on you, and honestly, you won't learn anything. You're just going to end up injured because you don't know how to throw a proper punch.
If you're looking for actual sparring, there's a club near the old downtown mosque in my neighborhood.

Joshua Clark said:Hmm... sounds more like my ex's dance troupe, "Pipi," but whatever...
PIPI
If that's what you're thinking, they actually have belly dancing classes, though I'm already done with those.
Come on, guys, lighten up! Honestly, the main perk here is the fitness center itself, and they run random classes every now and then.
Correct me if I'm wrong. I'll call them, but they aren't picking up right now. I'll try again in the morning.

Look, I'm telling you, they even have Muay Thai there, and it'll be great if Pipi is the one teaching.

Joshua Clark said:But what kind of sports? And where exactly? 😘

I’m not entirely sure what they offer. I know they have Muay Thai, maybe some boxing, and some women's fitness stuff. Just Google "Local Sports Club" or something—it should pop up the address, phone number, and everything else you need.

Joshua Clark said:Hey everyone, I need some quick recommendations for a martial arts club. Ideally somewhere women-friendly too. Please skip judo, karate, Taekwondo, boxing, and wrestling.
I love using both my hands and feet when fighting. I'm fast and can get pretty aggressive, so I'm thinking maybe Muay Thai—or potentially kickboxing or Jiu Jitsu. The catch? I can't find anything decent near the Maximiles area. Help!!

Check out the spot over by Bukov near Pip's place. It’s not far up from you at all.
Really nice facility.

Have you ever actually tried stepping into the ring with a solid Muay Thai fighter using nothing but a TKD "fighting stance"?

Jonathan Johnson67 said:That’s exactly what I was getting at when I told him he needs to show, not just tell. Theory alone doesn't get you anywhere.

Exactly. Let him spar with someone who actually knows Muay Thai and we'll see how much that attitude holds up once he's actually on his feet.

Peter Myers29 said:Why not?

Because he isn't six years old yet! Plus, he’s already got a solid foundation in sports, so it would be a total waste not to level him up with something more intense. Honestly, I just want him to know how to defend himself.

Peter Myers29 said:If you ask me, if someone is genuinely lost on what to train, I’d say Karate or Judo are solid starting points. Give both a shot to see if you lean more toward striking or grappling... then decide if you're happy there or want to dig deeper into that specific style of fighting.

Maybe this might help a bit too:

PrittPen said:Good morning! Hope everyone’s having a great start to the day. Let's get after it! 🙂

I’m looking to sign up for some kind of martial arts or combat sport. My main priority is finding something located in the inner city—somewhere near downtown or the central district would be ideal. I don't want anything too brutal; just something approachable and fun for recreational training. 🙂 Yeah, I'm 23. There's no way I'm training with a bunch of seventh graders right now. 🙂

Check this out. I just stumbled upon a massive update from Pro Fight Store. They’re rolling out a whole new lineup of gear that looks legit. If you're looking to upgrade your kit, this is worth a look. Straight to the point—new stuff is officially here.
Look, you’ll get a girl and some recreational fun. Don't sweat it—it’s not going to be brutal unless you actually want it to be. Most people wouldn't even dream of it that way anyway.😈 )
Training sessions are held over at the high school near the Sheraton in downtown Chicago. It’s a classic prep school setup.
Three times a week. That’s the goal.

electricorca11 said:Don't be naive. During that first year of training, you should be hitting it three times a week at minimum. Once you actually get into shape? You need to be out there every single day. Plus, you've got to put in that extra work on strength training. That’s the only way we can even start talking about actual success or skill level. Until you perform a move a thousand times, it isn't muscle memory. So, whatever you try, if you're chasing athletic success, you have to train daily.

What are you even talking about? She just wants to drop a few pounds.

Jonathan Johnson67 said:Can you actually train a martial art without any sparring?

Of course you can! At my local gym, if someone doesn't want to spar, they don't have to. You just drill technique with a partner, hit the heavy bag, or work on focus mitts...
I see the same thing at boxing gyms all over the US—tons of people who never spar. Look, you can't force someone to take hits to the head if they aren't up for it.😉
