nimblemarlin6 said:Kickboxing at "Forma" Gym in Chicago. Who on earth is Bruno?

So, I was looking into the kickboxing classes over at the "Forma" gym—you know, the one on Hebron Avenue here in Chicago—and I decided to give them a quick ring. I just wanted to see who was actually running the show, specifically the instructor. The answer I got? Just "Bruno."
That’s it. Just Bruno. So I start digging—asking if this guy is actually qualified, if he’s got a competitive background, if he’s ever stepped foot in a ring. Their response? "We don't know."
I mean, come on. I asked them if they could at least give me a last name so I could do a little digging online—standard procedure, right?—to see if the guy actually has a track record.
And they tell me: "We don't even know his last name."
Does anyone out there actually know who this Bruno character is? And more importantly, is the kickboxing program at "Forma" gym actually worth the time, or am I better off looking elsewhere?

No way!

I'm curious about Muay Thai in the area. Is there a club around here, and what's the damage like for membership?

There’s an awesome Savate club nearby. Goran Borovic is from Cleveland—he's a fantastic fighter—and he trains right there.

There are literally millions of camps in Thailand. You gotta be more specific about which part of the country you're hitting up.

Pit Bull’s got some serious hands when it comes to boxing training—just ask anyone who's been in the ring with him.

placidbison20 said:So, did they finally land someone who actually specializes in Muay Thai?

Yeah, I actually met that coach back when I was sparring with Benzon over at the Pit Bull gym.
Word is he spent some serious time training in Thailand, so he definitely knows his stuff. To be fair, I haven't really noticed a massive shift in technique among the guys at Pit Bull during fights yet—but then again, I don't know how long they've been working with him. Plus, most of the veteran fighters I've watched (or even gone rounds with) already have such established styles that it’s hardly surprising they haven't overhauled everything just yet.

You won't find "authentic" old-school Thai boxing just sitting around, but honestly, your best bet would be checking out Pit Bull. They actually brought in a specialist trainer specifically for Muay Thai recently.

If I recall correctly, you need the second entrance, second floor, and you have to ring the intercom first. http://www.systems-import.com/
I once tried to "order" some guards there, and this confused bald guy took down my info, promising to call me once their shipment arrived, but he never did. Honestly, it was probably for the best; I changed my mind. Using ear guards for BJJ or grappling tends to just get in your way. It’s better to just make sure you’re properly warmed up before sparring... unless you're just unlucky enough to deal with cauliflower ear constantly...

Their other location is in that white building directly across from the main transit hub, the one with "TAHOGRAF" written on the roof.

They also have a shop at the start of Main Street, right across from Vincents in the courtyard.

Thanks to everyone for all the replies.
Baroque Chamber in Health ·
Hi there,
I have a few questions regarding the Baroque Chamber.
What’s the availability like? Specifically, can I book a session or schedule an appointment?
I'm looking to use it to boost my oxygen levels as part of my training prep for upcoming matches. Is this kind of thing available in Washington, D.C., or is it strictly reserved for medical use?
Thanks in advance!

Anonymous said:Hey everyone, I’m new here! I’m 15 years old and used to play handball, but my club ended up folding, so now I’m looking to get into some kind of martial arts. Muay Thai really catches my eye, but the closest gym is way out in the suburbs. I’m living over in Brooklyn, so if anyone could recommend some good clubs around here, I’d really appreciate it—doesn’t have to be strictly Muay Thai. Thanks!🙏 🙏

There's a club right in Blacksburg run by Ziza. Shoot a PM to briskjackal5 from this forum.

It's at the high school over on Krizanice, right near the Sheraton.
But if everything goes according to plan, we should be getting our very own gym in a different location soon!

Paul King78 said:I'm assuming just because they're registered as a Muay Thai club doesn't mean they actually teach it, right?!

Actually, it's the same gym. To compete in all those tournaments, they have to be officially registered for both kickboxing and Muay Thai—and honestly, I think they're listed as a boxing club too.
They don't specifically teach Muay Thai style; their technique is different, but man, they have some incredible fighters. They're famous for having killer handwork.

Scouring the web, I stumbled upon this PDF from the American Muay Thai Federation that mentions a club called "Flash" based out of Split... so now I’m curious if anyone knows the scoop on them. I'm looking to get into Muay Thai, but honestly, most people I talk to just lump it in with standard kickboxing. Anyone got the real lowdown?😕 So, I’m wondering—is that "Flash" spot actually legit for training Muay Thai, or are they just selling us smoke and mirrors? Thanks!
I don't know if it was actually adapted or what, but regardless, there's some mention of a coach named Mark Zaja.

Flash Club is actually just Pitbull Kickboxing. They registered themselves as a Muay Thai club specifically so they could compete in official Muay Thai championships.
"Flash" is actually the nickname for coach Mark Zaja.

placidbison20 said:I’m noticing Muay Thai is really blowing up right now.
Especially when you pair it with wrestling, Judo, or BJJ.

And honestly, it’s no surprise. It’s an incredibly fascinating and brutal art form. 🙂

It’s not just happening on this forum, either. My gym is constantly seeing new faces walk through the door. If the coaches actually cared about turning the place into a real business, they could make a killing, but they don't want to. The whole club runs strictly on pure passion and a love for Muay Thai. Membership fees barely cover the rent and the occasional upgrade for new gear.
The popularity of Muay Thai and American combat sports is skyrocketing. Mirko deserves a lot of credit for that—his fights on TV draw massive crowds, and people are getting hooked on UF and all the other fighting disciplines under the UF umbrella.
It’s a total trend. Just imagine if we had JKD clubs back when the Dragon's Nest era and those Bruce Lee movies were huge; those places would have been packed.
Karate Kid definitely sent kids running to local karate studios. I can't remember if any Ninjutsu schools thrived during the American Ninja craze, but I know every kid back then was obsessed with becoming a ninja.
