Mod power trips and management corruption. in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’ve already pointed out how Master has been hounding me for over two years now. Honestly, the people in charge probably didn't even bother reading what I wrote or the examples I provided. I can't believe I actually fell for that one. Seriously, I feel like such an idiot right now. Has anyone else ever been scammed like this, or am I just uniquely bad at judging people?
I laid out the whole situation regarding that massive provocation and how Master just sat there and let it slide in post #20. I honestly think we’re overcomplicating this. It feels like everyone is trying way too hard to prove a point instead of just looking at the facts.

I took another look at that example I mentioned earlier, and it's pretty clear what happened. A moderator—maybe Master or someone else on the team—deleted the actual photo that user @dajc posted, but they left the text behind. It’s obvious enough from the post to see exactly what I'm talking about and how they're intentionally scrubbing the evidence.

What could possibly be worse than something like this happening when nobody's willing to step up and take the blame?

The moderator, Master, basically just wiped everything that didn't fit his narrative while letting everyone else dogpile on me. He even jumped in himself, constantly calling me out and poking at me whenever he got the chance.

Look, man, mellowraven8 is just making stuff up; there isn't even a real issue here to solve.
With how advanced apps and bots are these days, you can really see the effort being put into keeping this place running.
Maybe spend your time on something else... 👍

People keep asking why we even need moderators who also jump in to comment.
We all have to follow the rules—mostly just being decent and civilized, which most of us have already figured out by now.
If someone actually breaks the rules, any self-aware user can report them to a moderator who isn't posting publicly.
Then, the moderator decides how to handle it.
Right now, we have moderators relying on knowledge from a while back, but honestly, that might not be enough anymore since there are so many new gadgets and solutions out there now.
Real progress comes from those who keep learning and actually apply their ideas; take mellowraven8, for example, who’s always coming up with creative stuff.
Being imaginative is what matters; just relying on what you learned in school doesn't last forever.
Punishing people for repeating themselves or trying to help others find quick fixes is old-school thinking; that shift depends more on the users than the mods.
And digging up posts from years ago to call people out? That's a dead idea. This forum isn't some static history book; things change every single day.

slycyclist342 said:I agree.

Yes sir, I’d say discipline is exactly where it needs to be. More so.

I have no idea why you’re bringing this up in a response about me, considering I’ve never once posted an oversized image on "DIY Nation."
I uploaded them between 5:00 and 6:00, having cropped all of them beforehand, and my only infraction on record dates back to 2010.

Once again, I am being blamed for something that has absolutely nothing to do with me.
I sent you a message like that, but it wasn't actually about moving the thread. It was just my reaction when you handed me a red card and deleted a perfectly legitimate question under the guise of "trolling." I was honestly asking, "Are you an idiot?"
That was the exact moment I lost my cool... if I had just waited five minutes, I wouldn't have even sent you that.
I regret allowing myself to lose my composure because of someone like you.

I'll give you this one: that was your win. 👍

So, basically... You're lying! You are blatantly lying!
Perhaps I genuinely overlooked that someone had already addressed the brick-cutting issue in that thread during my first read.
It’s entirely possible that happened somewhere in those first few thousand posts and I just missed it. Look, I’m not a robot—I probably skimmed over it since most of that text was just leftover scraps from old arguments and bickering, so it could easily be buried in there somewhere.
Honestly, any decent moderator would have just pointed out where that information is located instead of handing out a warning for trolling.

Look, I am publicly challenging you to stand by what you said. Just tell me exactly which page of this thread it was on and who specifically wrote that about cutting full bricks.
I've gone through the entire thread again, and all I could find were the posts regarding cutting the core on page 31 and the chamotte cutting on page 180.

Since you're being so insistent, I’ll ask you nicely one more time: just point me to exactly where it says that.
I will gladly apologize to you for calling you a liar just now.

So? What was I actually expected to do?
Should you move over to that other thread—the one with the nearly identical title where the last post was made about eighteen months ago—and pose your question there instead of staying in the "garden barbecue" topic? Please provide a logical explanation as to why.

So, you're lying again. 👍
At that time, I wasn't being difficult, nor did I react poorly through any word or gesture.
The only thing that actually struck me as funny was why on earth they’d split the smoker with the stainless steel hood into its own thread, separate from the one with the concrete hood, when absolutely everything else—from the foundation to the roof—is identical.
Honestly, moving the thread isn't an issue at all, even if the whole thing is a bit ridiculous.

So, I have a question... why haven't you stepped in to penalize friend Mr. Iveka yet? He’s out there flame-warring, trolling, insulting people, and spreading total nonsense about certain laws that we already know are false. Why not just shut down this whole debate he started and move the thread elsewhere?

Yes, I am continuing with my work on the garden kitchen. 🤣
I’ve gone through the topic list three times now, and I'm telling you, there is absolutely nothing on outdoor kitchens. All I see is indoor kitchen setups that have zero connection to what an outdoor setup actually entails. Every time I try to start a thread about outdoor kitchens, I just get hit with an express ban and a condescending reply. (Quote below):
"There is an open thread for this. Just check the TOPIC LIST; you really can't mess this up if you just take a second to look."

I've checked five times now... still no sign of the topic.
I ask in the chat where this is heading, and you respond with some nonsense about a wood-burning stove.
I honestly have no idea how I could have missed that. 🤣🤣

Here is that cardboard-quality post, just so my colleagues can see it.
What material did you guys end up using for the outdoor kitchen countertop?

Stainless steel feels way too industrial for me, but standard countertops just aren't built to handle being outdoors—even though they really ought to be waterproof.

I'm torn between sticking with stone—which I’d honestly rather avoid since I’m planning a massive bar and I'm worried about the weight on the subframe and the sheer hassle of moving it—or going with a ton of wood, though I have my doubts about how that'll hold up outdoors once the finish inevitably gets scratched up.

Since I'm mostly working with solid wood, would you mind sharing some of your recent projects? Also, if anyone has a recommendation on where to pick up a high-quality solid wood slab, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

I recently stumbled upon this new material for kitchen countertops called LAMINAM. It looks like ceramic, but it’s significantly more durable—you can practically hammer on it or even use it for an outdoor kitchen since it's fireproof. I picked up a slab yesterday, so now I just need to find someone who can precision-cut it to size.

Why isn't this being relegated to a DIY show? Or better yet, why is it even being discussed here instead of on a specialized forum where only an actual expert would know the answer?

At that point, I realized this wasn't actually about moderation, logic, or any actual rules. This is clearly personal; if anyone else had started this thread, you wouldn't be deleting it or handing out penalties.

https://ibb.co/H2WvdS3

What exactly was I doing "my own way"? Perhaps by "my own way," you mean that I didn't simply copy and paste my exact same post about kitchens into the "brick oven" thread?
I apologize, but I found it quite humiliating... so I decided to go study everything there is to know about outdoor kitchens elsewhere.
Besides, I don't see how someone who actually understands outdoor kitchens would wander into a brick oven discussion just to start rambling about countertop materials... the topics have absolutely nothing to do with one another.

I am not sure what else you could possibly mean when I say I "want to do things my way."

Do you perhaps think I "want to do things my way" because I posted a few comments in the chat thread? Is that what you consider an attack on your authority?
By the way, why is the chat thread still locked?

I am truly unsure how my "polite" behavior ceased, and I wonder what specifically you are referring to. Please, feel free to state it publicly since you have taken this direction.
Don't leave it unsaid and hanging in the air.

The only thing (I admit) that wasn't polite was when, after receiving a warning and an infraction for my post asking "what is the best way to cut a solid brick," I sent you a private message asking if you were out of your mind.
I regret sending that to you, but honestly, given that kind of behavior, I felt you had to be either completely irrational or intentionally malicious (again, that isn't polite of me, but it is my honest opinion).

As I see it, the whole situation started when I dared to respond to your friend Mr. Ive, who was insulting me, and then you jumped in as well.

You may have said it unintentionally, but you hit the nail on the head. 👍
So, let us repeat and emphasize that forum members are not always right.

Let's say it together: forum members are not always right.

If we repeat that aloud fifty times every morning, things might actually improve. 👍

Sometimes the moderator is in the wrong, too.
There is only one person in this entire world who is perfect and without fault.
Believe it or not, that person isn't you. 🙂

I’ve had some pretty bad experiences with mr. ivek, which is why Robert Martin23 wrote

The way moderators treat users here just isn't right. Robert Martin23 isn't even addressing my posts this time because he knows I'm right, yet I've been waiting a year for him to explain why he restricted my account without any warnings or actual reasons.

Honestly, I think the administration is mostly to blame for how the mods act. I even dealt with a situation where a moderator stole my personal info, and at the end of that mess, rustydrifter10 basically said it was just a recommendation that moderators shouldn't use members' private data?

Robert Martin23, you're basically your own worst enemy. You jump into other people's debates just to back one side, even when you know they're wrong, instead of just waiting until things actually get confusing before weighing in.
When I try to prove a point using actual evidence—photos, data, or links to deep-dive technical articles that could help everyone learn—you still question me because you don't quite grasp the specifics in those professional journals.
Take this guy on the forum who’s always poking at me and mocking actual science. His engineer buddy shows off a deliberately broken pipe and they both just laugh about it; it's just a tight-knit group of guys who hang out with other members. It's fine for socializing, but it’s definitely not great that they're treated like experts just because they helped build the forum's archives. Here's the example I'm talking about:

You left that there as an example of my "4D" logic, which is something you clearly haven't bothered to study if you actually wanted to understand it.
That was written by an engineer who uses this forum to hawk weird gadgets, all thanks to you and your crew.

Your archive has almost nothing to do with heating systems or hydraulic connection integrity—stuff you really don't have a clue about. Even basic concepts like flow rates and temperature differentials in heating systems seem to be up for debate among your "engineers," using outdated methods like over-the-bar setups.
My whole goal has been to point out mistakes so people can actually fix their problems. Yet, a year or two later, the same users are running into the exact same issues. The questions from the last month are identical to what we were seeing years ago, which means the fixes they implemented weren't right. I pointed this out then, and I'm pointing it out again. Anyone making a claim should be able to back it up, but you demand proof from the person presenting the idea, which is pretty backwards.

It’s honestly bizarre that a link to https://www.caleffi.com/usa/en-us/technical-magazine isn't useful to you, considering it's a goldmine for general knowledge.
You should have pulled the key takeaways from that and added them to the archives; that would have actually moved us forward and kept things modern.
To my relief, most people who aren't active here much anymore took my suggestions to heart and fixed their issues. I still keep in touch with most of them outside the forum—we catch up over coffee or lunch.
You can keep doing whatever you want since you hold the power, but you can't steal someone else's expertise. Your little circle is mostly just resellers using this forum as a business platform.
You've messed up regarding me twice now. You can still fix your mistakes; you have the influence, so maybe use it to actually make things better.👍

Robert Martin23 has this little circle of forum regulars whose opinions have been set in stone for a century, while everyone else is just background noise.
Someone like mellowraven8 is a rare find on these threads. I’ve always been all for the creatives—people with actual ideas and good vibes who share what they know for free. Honestly, that’s the whole reason I joined this forum.
Unfortunately, this particular moderator caused so much chaos in my threads twice now that it was just easier for him to ban me for no damn reason. First, it was a six-month lockout, then a year-long ban out of nowhere. No warnings, no strikes, nothing. Just a bunch of yes-men feeding him whatever he wants to hear just to get rid of me.
He even locked a thread for a few days while he "investigated," claiming everyone's opinion matters and that provided evidence should be taken seriously.
I’ve pointed out specific examples countless times, but it never leads anywhere.
I even reached out to rustydrifter10, but nothing happened—just to get a DM the next day saying they were looking into a partial fix for me. Like Robert Martin23 actually thinks I’m going to come begging.
I’m calling on the administration if you actually want this forum to grow, embrace new perspectives, and respect the progress we've made over the years. If you want any semblance of democracy here, you need to strip Robert Martin23 of these responsibilities; he simply isn't up to the task.
When I participate in other threads where Robert Martin23 isn't hovering, it's just like mellowraven8's experience—I've never once felt a moderator breathing down our necks or reacting to what we write.
If a moderator needs to chime in on a thread, they should do it under a different name. Right now, this guy is just using his position to play favorites.

rustydrifter10 said:Hey, there's no need to prove anything! The administration can see the email address associated with any account logged into the forum. Honestly, we're currently working with the tech team to figure out a way to restrict that access or even wipe it entirely, but that really comes down to the vBulletin core settings rather than our own control. For now, all we can do is make a conscious choice not to look, since we don't have the option to hide it from ourselves.

It’s someone else entirely—that’s just how things work.
This response definitely isn't related to what rustydrifter10 mentioned earlier: "There's no such thing as privacy on the internet. As admins, we don't share any data from your profile that isn't public, like your email address, unless we get a warrant from the police or a court."

rustydrifter10 said:Look, let’s be real: there is absolutely no such thing as guaranteed privacy on the internet. As the site administration, we don't go around sharing the private details you've tucked away in your profile—stuff like your email address stays hidden from the public unless we're served with an actual warrant from the police or a court order. But you've got to stay sharp, because someone can still piece together who you are just by reading what you post, even when you think you're being super vague. And honestly? Just because some random person claims they've figured out your identity doesn't mean they actually have.

I got an email sent to my registration address from an admin saying they found my account info. They were actually checking in on me after the earthquake, which was a nice gesture, but it makes me wonder—how exactly can an admin access the data I gave the forum?
I can send over the admin's details and the email address they used to message me via DM if you want, or I can post them here if requested.

as for that other question above: it's because the site is using http instead of https. maybe check your browser settings to see if you can just turn off those warnings if they're getting on your nerves.

and sorry I didn't reply to your post sooner, I totally missed it. also, chill with the question marks—one is plenty.

The "remember me" thing won't fix anything; there's a different issue here. Plus, using "remember me" can actually be a security risk if someone else gets access to your device!

That security warning isn't meant to be disabled; it's there so your browser and antivirus can alert you when you're on an unsecure site. Honestly, using http these days should be a total dealbreaker. It’s no wonder people are running into issues like mine or what @mynameis... is dealing with.
When it comes to risks like eavesdropping or data being intercepted mid-stream, you don't even need to explain the difference between https and http.
I really think we should all be sticking to basic internet safety standards.

A little while ago, I tried posting in the help forum too. Everything seemed okay, I went under technical issues where I am now, but the post just didn't show up. When I try again to send an inquiry, am I breaking some forum rule or what?
Note:
If I change my IP address, the problem disappears for a split second, but as soon as I try to post again, it happens all over again. Any ideas?

Frank Foster6 said:Up until now, we've mostly relied on archaeology and old written records to piece history together, but I think it's time we start leaning on something much more precise: DNA and archaeogenetics. It feels like a no-brainer to start using a more powerful scientific toolset if we want the real story.

I'm with you on that. We should really just embrace the progress and take the results for what they are.
You won't find any Americans or anyone else you're listing in those proofs.

Look, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion on people, but we're talking about the history of specific nations here, not the entire human species. Besides, genetics shows us how humans migrated from places like Africa way back in the day, so if you really want to take it that far, you could argue it applies to the whole species too.

Forced migration imposed by others is easily the worst kind of bullying—just the powerful stepping all over the weak. In times like these, individual consciousness is everything. I’m personally waiting for that moment when the majority finally pushes back against the minority causing all this chaos; that's the kind of progress we need.
Honestly, it doesn't even matter if our ancestors migrated here from the East, the West, the South, or the North. The names of those old territories don't mean a thing. Everywhere you go, it’s just more dirt and rocks. Fighting over pieces of land and stones just seems pointless to me.
I’m really striving for a world without borders, where we all just live side by side.
It’s totally fine to respect certain traditions that define specific groups, as long as they aren't causing any harm along the way.

That's why we talk about specific eras of history—when humans first started forming tribes, creating their own names and cultures, and basically becoming the foundation of the history we're all diving into via those PDFs. Except for bluecyclist64, who seems to talk about everything except the actual topics he posts about.

Being part of a group is totally fine, as long as they respect their own traditions and aren't out there hurting anyone else.
Look, bluecyclist64 or whoever else has their own way of saying things, and I'm totally fine with that. If his style bugs me, I just won't read it or ask him anything. His approach might seem weird to most people, but I haven't had any issues with him—just a polite question and an answer.

So, you've got these genetic testing companies out there constantly dropping data on people's results, and half the time they’ll claim someone has a certain percentage of Ashkenazi Jew ancestry. Honestly, I’m struggling to wrap my head around how they "see" that in your blood. It's not like there's a label written in your DNA saying you're part Ashkenazi Jew. Where exactly does that even come from?

You gave an answer to that question, and maybe you're right, but we’d need actual proof to be sure. Honestly, the only real thing separating us is that core life force or bloodline. By birth, you're handed certain insights—some even lie dormant deep within you. If you've got the imagination and the drive, you can wake that knowledge up. If not, then these endless debates about our differences will just keep circling us for the rest of our lives. Our mission shouldn't be staying stuck in this limited state of awareness; we have to push forward if we want humanity to actually make it.

I'm a big believer in individual rights, so I'll leave it at that. Wishing you nothing but the best.

Frank Foster6 said:Basically, what I want to tell you, the forum, and the rest of the world is that we Americans back home were never really one big tribe with Canadians, Canadians, Mexicans, Mexicans, etc. Now, why we share much of the same core genetics—which suggests we might actually stem from a common ancestral group—I honestly can't say for sure. I can only offer my take based on historical records, genetics, and those facts. Just like people here debate whether specific subgroups are distinct South Slavic tribes or have nothing to do with Americans, please let me share my thoughts on our origins. It’s all open to criticism and debate in the right sections..

You’re looking at Americans through the lens of ancient tribes and beyond, whereas I look at humans as a species. That’s the fundamental difference between us; everyone is entitled to their own perspective and lives by what they believe is true.
If we look at other species, like birds or dogs, we differentiate ourselves by imposing whatever rules suit us, without any input from the species we're making laws for. Those other species just see us as a species; they don't care which tribe we belong to.
To me, there aren't "Americans" and these other tribes you mentioned; there are just humans as a species who, at our origin (which is still debatable), didn't have names or tribal affiliations.
As a species that has evolved past our ancestors, we need to correct ourselves so that we aren't defined solely by our genetics.
Once we make that leap and overcome our primal nature, we'll finally achieve lasting peace, and people will live in prosperity, much like other species that aren't hunted or persecuted by humans.

Of course, this isn't about the specific case we're supporting or not; this is just a forum, and outbursts like this should be allowed.
I’ve exchanged a few messages with bluecyclist64 without any issues, and I support his effort to make sure this forum feels welcoming to everyone. Only those who break the actual rules should face consequences. As for the rules written twenty years ago, they can be debated and even changed if it benefits everyone.

The history you're talking about is recorded and stays that way regardless of whether it's accurate or not. For me personally, I have my own experiences and my own truth that I can share with others.

Frank Foster6 said:He’s honestly one of the biggest trolls and losers on this board. I can't quite put my finger on it because he doesn't actually contribute anything (at least not in the history threads I follow), but he acts more like some news commentator using "polite" language. If any of us regular users used his kind of vocabulary to jump into debates, we would have been permanently banned ages ago...

If you're choosing to argue with someone you consider a "loser," then you're just playing on their level. Is it really okay for a "respectable" user to lecture others just because they think differently?
Forum discussions should be about hanging out, not about moderators trying to shape opinions or forcing people to prove "truths" to one another.

In the five or six years I've been watching him in my threads or popping up in the history PDFs, that guy hasn't once provided a link, a paper, or a single scientific study to back up his claims. Like I said, his takes are mostly just daily musings or personal life thoughts that barely even touch the actual topics being discussed...

I've shared plenty of things exactly like what you're describing—legitimate professional publications anyone can read if they care, like https://www.caleffi.com/usa/en-us/technical-magazine
. But the moderator and the group this forum serves for entertainment claim those kinds of technical resources aren't "appropriate" for us. In their view, it's like a ticking time bomb that could cause damage, whereas they'd rather have people using the forum for advertising. When a moderator supports that mindset, it hurts both the community and the individuals who actually want to learn something useful.
After countless attempts to provide proof, the moderator just decides that banning people is the easiest way to deal with anyone who disagrees with his specific knowledge or views.

Looking at your signature, it's clear you're just stating an opinion. I don't personally agree with it, but I respect it as your view.
Maybe apply that same logic to the "bluecyclist64" situation.🙂

Look, man,
You're shutting down discussions and killing the momentum on topics where we actually need to push boundaries. What's even the point of being part of the AFL-CIO if you're working against progress and the kind of imagination that drives it? Sure, you can learn facts, but without vision, anyone—me, you, whoever—will just get left behind by the times. Everything "cutting edge" becomes obsolete in a few years anyway; nobody here has a monopoly on knowledge. Collaboration is what opens new doors, so why stifle those conversations? You let personal attacks slide, which goes against everything this forum stands for, yet you're the one breaking the rules first. Instead of moving toxic posts to the right sections, you leave them right there in the middle of the thread, almost like you're trying to set a standard for how we should be talking.
Looking at those old posts, even after your recent cleanup, it's pretty clear you aren't acting in the best interest of this community.

Once you really sit with this next quote and adjust your approach, things will start looking up for everyone.
"Anyone who says they wouldn’t change a thing on the hydronic systems they’ve designed or installed over the last decade is either so oblivious to changes in technology that they don’t know any better, so egotistical they can’t accept that improvement of their work is possible, or so foolish they don’t care what they’re missing out on."

Robert Martin23 basically thinks the AFL-CIO archives have everything anyone could ever need to know. If you actually want to learn something, he thinks you shouldn't bother asking questions; you should just study his specific posts, which he's tailored based on whoever he chooses to listen to—even letting people run ads that clearly break the rules.
I've personally dealt with organized groups of forum users twice now, where they target anyone who disagrees with them just to insult or falsely accuse them. I always report this stuff to the mod, but nothing happens. It's pretty clear Robert Martin23 is playing favorites with that group.
He's all cool with that group attacking people, but the second I try to defend myself against their lies, he comes down from his high horse, threatens me, and shuts the whole thread down. He even wipes out the posts I'd use to prove my side. Filing complaints with Amtrak was a total waste of time, and honestly, it ended up forcing me off the forum for months.
The whole point of the AFL-CIO threads should be for individual expertise to shine. But right now, you can't even have a real debate, which totally defeats the purpose of what this place is called.

The current score from that style of management is 13:3.
Maybe the owner just wants some ego stroking, or maybe those mods get a kick out of it too since they're getting paid.
The message is loud and clear: the moderator is always right, and their decisions aren't up for debate—even if debating them might actually benefit the users who keep this place running by maybe 5-10%.
If the owner really didn't want us commenting on it, the score would probably be 13:2.
Looking at the numbers, it's pretty obvious free speech is being stifled here. If we want things to change, we need to push for a whole new set of rules for the mods.

A forum should be a place for different views, not just one single "truth."
I’m not saying everything is a lie compared to the old official history from the Yugoslavia days.
No.
I'm just saying we need to acknowledge the sides that weren't allowed to speak back then.
It’s finally time to have an open, honest debate.

Please, just be fair—how many threads have you started yourself?

How can we even debate this if we didn't see it happen or live through it ourselves?
You admitted you're on the side of the Partisans, which basically validates the Labor union reps being called forest bandits here. You didn't even blink at that insult.
Every war leaves scars on both the fighters and the innocent. Usually, the winner writes the history books using force, but we should be able to discuss that history while there are still people alive who actually lived it.
If we were living in a more conscious era thirty years ago, there would have been more talk and less fighting; most people in the US today would be living in much better circumstances because of it.
Personally, I’m against all violent solutions—wars, destruction, persecution, all of it.
I truly believe the future of humanity lies in a world without borders. Anything else is just stripping away individual rights, and nobody should have the power to do that.
