Sean Gonzalez95 said:He isn't spoiled just because he's difficult. He's more like me when I first wake up—just needs to stretch out. He'll jog through warmups in unlaced sneakers and act like his entire world is falling apart, but once the whistle blows, he isn't lazy or entitled at all.
The fact that he isn't a hard worker like Dražen is a completely different conversation.

Look, I heard this a long time ago from someone who was close to the American national handball scene back then. They said the guy just wouldn't train; the whole team would be running laps around Jarun, and he’d just tell the coach, "I don't feel like doing this anymore." That was the moment I lost respect for him. It wasn't about his skill level; I look at this from a purely athletic perspective.
I heard similar stories about Hrvoje Calu, though he never actually had the talent to make anything of it anyway.

Michael Martinez86 said:You get absolutely torn apart for suggesting Balić was a spoiled prima donna. I actually dared to say that once myself, and let me tell you, I won't be making that mistake again if I want to avoid being grilled. It’s just too obvious to ignore.

I guess even I have to admit he was spoiled. 😳
Honestly, I've been hearing for ages that he's incredibly lazy, which is why I've never really liked him much, but you have to give the guy credit for his massive talent. 😁

I'm also jumping on board with those requests.😁
Come on, I can't be the only one who missed this.😬

I’ve never had anything against Ivano Balić, but blaming him for this? Really? After he spent all these years leading the entire squad? Just because of a few mistakes, everything goes out the window? Even at Madison Square Garden, things don't always go according to plan, so what? Nobody has a perfect game every single time. But one thing is certain—Kopljar didn't have his back 🤷

I’m not so sure we're going to see a good result in tomorrow's game 🤷

That shouldn't be an issue; I guess I'll try testing it at home one day when I'm logged in. Right now I'm typing this from work, and I don't really feel like messing around with the login settings, especially since my coworker uses this forum too. 😬
But anyway, everything should reset around 8 AM. I honestly thought maybe it was just some temporary glitch. 🤷
And yeah, looks like I'm stuck being annoyed until 8. 😁

I don't want to start a whole new thread, so I'm assuming I can just ask here 🙂
Basically, for the last few days, I’ve been logging in, heading to a thread to post a reply (which is usually just a single four-word sentence), and then I get hit with this: "You do not have permission to perform this action. Please refresh the page and login before trying again." So I hit refresh, and suddenly I'm not even logged in anymore.
The whole login process takes me less than 20 seconds 🤷
This keeps happening until about 8:00 PM, after which everything goes back to normal.

Is this actually 100% confirmed? 😬
Because if it is, I might just have a few nerves left for the next round of the Championship. 😁

It isn't Hong anymore; Blecic is coaching the men, while Lydia handles the women—she’s the one who coached our bronze-winning Zubcicke.
And at least these two have degrees from top-tier universities—call it whatever you want. 😁
Look, you can hype up the World Cup all you want, but I guess the odds are slim, even if we have some elite fighters. I’d compare it to slalom: anyone can pull an upset and grab a medal, but the competition is just brutal, except for a few specific categories where the same names have dominated for years. 😁

Carl Brooks22 said:By this coming December, I’m hoping the HOO will be forced to pay even closer attention to the finer details. In a non-Olympic year, they really ought to weigh the merits more carefully when handing out awards—comparing someone who snagged two trophies (like a slalom and an overall title) against a world record holder in high jump (say, hitting 2.11m like back in 2011), or a world record holder in shot put, or maybe even the world champion handball players or their coaches. That would certainly stir up a hell of a lot more drama.😁

Well, if what you're saying is true, then may God hear you. 😁
That would certainly be a delicious kind of trouble. 🙂

That’s just my take on things—I’m not claiming I’m right, but I’m sticking to it.
Since I spent twelve years competing in sports myself, I’m basing this on that experience.
If someone asked whether I’d rather take gold at the World Cup or bronze at the Olympics, I’d choose the Olympics every single time!
The Olympics isn't some event that rolls around every year, or even every other year; it happens once every four years when everyone is expected to give 150%.
I don't even want to drag Michael Jordan into this because basketball is a team sport—you can have a legendary performance and still lose.
But with an individual sport, if you mess up, you're only screwing yourself over, not a whole roster of teammates.

And for the record, I'm not here to start any fights between New York and Seattle.
I'll admit, though, that in Taekwondo at the Olympics, Zaninovick should have been given the shot instead of Zubcick. 🙂

In my view, those two medals are the only things keeping Kostelic’s legacy intact. I actually agree with the decision here—an Olympic medal carries far more weight than a World Championship one. If you were to ask the athletes themselves which one they'd rather hunt down during their careers, I suspect they'd choose the Olympics every single time. Thank God the Olympics only happen once every four years, otherwise the Vlasics wouldn't have anything to aim for over the next few seasons. 😁
Both are incredible coaches, but I honestly think Kostelic is a few levels above anyone else in America.
The fact that he managed to build something out of absolutely nothing... I don't see anyone matching that for a long time, especially considering how much was stacked against him. And look at us now—thanks to his influence, we even host the World Cup events at Mount Rainier for both the men and women.
Blanka really impressed me, but nobody is ever going to top Kostelic for me.
If it weren't for those two Olympic medals, I'd be voting for the Vlasics.

P.S.
I'll say it again (regardless of whatever delusions you might have 😁): being a city dweller isn't some slur. It's nowhere near being compared to a racial epithet. Even if you say it with the most obnoxious expression on your face, a city person will still be proud of that identity! 🙂

Alright, I guess I’m about to look like a total amateur here. 😁
But honestly, what’s so offensive about calling someone a Dalmos? She didn't go around calling you all idiots—if she had, I’d get why you're worked up—but just saying Dalmos?
And feel free to tell any Washington, D.C. local they're a local too, because there's nothing insulting about it. We’re proud of who we are. 🙂

Maybe I went too far by calling skiing a pathetic sport and claiming Ivica is just an average skier. He isn't average, but he’s certainly not world-class.
To me, true world-class talent would be Janica on skis or Blanka in high jump.

I can't just sit here and let this slide. 🤣
"Average skier"? 🤣
"Not world-class"? 🤣
Janica wasn't just world-class; she was in a league of her own—a total NADklasa. 😁
If she had stayed healthy and kept competing, I honestly believe she would have shattered every record in existence, leaving everyone else in the dust.
As for Ivica, he’s been top-tier since his junior days, but for those of us watching from home, he truly arrived in 2001 when he pulled off that win in Aspen despite starting with bib number 64.
From 2001 all the way through 2011—that's ten years!—he remained at the absolute pinnacle of global skiing.
If that level of performance is considered "average" to you or any other critic, then please, spare me. I wish I could be "average" too. 😁

Sandra Wilson38 said:Maybe Gypsy and Mustachio should just go head-to-head in their own specialties—Gypsy in slalom and Vlasic in high jump—just so we can finally see who actually measures up. Then we could give them a real evaluation. 😁

I mean... I suspect Gypsy is still part of the intro. 😁
That guy already knows how to ski. He doesn't need Sobol or anyone else to teach his kids how to do it. 😁

Morgan Rodriguez57 said:Alright, let’s see who exactly is on Blanka's team:
Check out the lineup over at http://www.blanka-vlasic.com/team-en.php. It gives you a look at the people behind the operation.

So, even the label says it's total bullshit, doesn't it? 😁
Each one of them has their own dedicated professional staff behind them, so give me a break—these guys are elite athletes.
I’m inclined to agree that Marinovic deserves more credit when it comes to pure technique. Anyone who actually follows any kind of sport knows that technical mastery is absolutely everything.

analogowl122 said:Take a look at the awards for the world's best athletes and those in America over the last decade.
Or just the ones listed here.
Let's put it this way— The Laureus World Sports Awards are essentially the Oscars of the sporting world. It’s a massive deal where they hand out trophies to the absolute best athletes on the planet across various categories. I guess you could look at it as the ultimate validation for an athlete's career. Every year, the heavy hitters gather to celebrate excellence, and honestly, it’s one of the few ceremonies that actually feels like it carries some weight in the industry. It’s pretty much the gold standard for recognizing greatness in global sports.
And I suppose that should all be perfectly clear.
And they’re really the only ones who can even be put in the same context.

I think I see exactly what's going on here. 😍
2006. 😍

analogowl122 said:If you think Blanka isn't putting in the work, you're dead wrong. I guess you're seriously mistaken.
I remember that show, Currency Exchange.
I guess Blanka has somehow managed to flip the script on a shepherd.
That guy was in incredible shape—basically a beast who spends all his time training out in the Rockies.
Even that Black athlete couldn't handle three minutes of Blanka's training. He was absolutely spent.
Unless we're talking about world-class athletes, I guess none of us here could even last three minutes.

Nobody is disputing that Blanka puts in the work. My take is that her training sessions just aren't as grueling as Ivica's.
That currency exchange thing you mentioned is just plain stupid. Even if I decided to get back into the gym right now, it would probably take me six months just to catch up to where my teammates are at.

Gerald Rivera17 said:Is it even possible to tell the truth without getting chewed out for it?

And why on earth are you dragging gips into this? He actually called himself that. It wasn't Vlašić taking aim at him; he was going after HOO.

Wouldn't you feel targeted if someone started judging HOO, unless you actually were the best? 🤷

Quote:I hope you aren't being deadly serious here.
I'm not sure what you're getting at with that. If you're trying to make a point, you might want to be more specific. Maybe? [User Name] says:
I guess you could argue that skiing doesn't even qualify as a real sport. There’s no direct head-to-head combat between competitors, and the number of people actually participating is laughably small for it to carry that title. Honestly, a world champion in darts probably carries more weight than a world champion in skiing.
Seriously, I really hope you aren't being dead serious. ☕
