Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Noah Sanchez39 said:I have a question for those of you using Opera: is there an AdBlock extension or perhaps a Flash blocker, or something similar available? 🤔
I’ve already tracked down solutions for Safari, Firefox, and Chrome, and honestly, those tools have become such a vital part of my browsing experience that I can hardly function without them.

It exists as an extension—I’m not entirely sure where to find it, but word is it works just as effectively as the version designed for Firefox.

Opera actually comes with built-in capabilities to block content, and it performs reasonably well enough.

However, if you want my honest opinion, it is much more efficient to simply head into your Windows\System32\drivers\etc folder and edit the hosts file. You can drop in a comprehensive list of sites to block; you can find lists online that cover virtually every major US-based advertising network and spyware source, and then you can manually add any specific local sites you encounter (though I won't list them here to avoid getting banned 🙂).

The beauty of this method is that if you use multiple browsers, it blocks access across all of them simultaneously. It doesn't just restrict the browser; it cuts off access for every single application running on your computer.
Trying to prevent grass, snakes, or any other critters from going extinct is fundamentally pointless—at best, you’re just delaying an inevitable biological reality, and at worst, it’s sheer idiocy. If a wolf wanders onto my property, disrupts my land, and practically begs for a bullet, I am more than happy to oblige him.

(It’s a recurring theme throughout history: this persistent tendency among the urban "upper class" to push legislation protecting things like forests, streams, or wolves in some rural backwater they’d only ever visit as tourists—heaven forbid they actually tried to live out there...)

It’s quite similar to how those local neighborhood matriarchal cliques control the farmers' markets.😁

The Mueller Report in Economy ·
I follow this guy here and there (video link on the forum... ) and honestly, the man is completely clueless 🤷

A typical episode basically boils down to the first half, where bankers are portrayed as pure evil, while everyone else—the righteous peasants of the world rising up against them—are all inherently good. This includes unions, government agencies, and apparently even insurgents (did I mention how evil the bankers are? 😕)
and
the second half, where he brings on a guest (who also frequently lacks any idea what they're talking about) and, instead of conducting an actual interview, just manipulates them into agreeing that all bankers are inherently wicked 😕

You missed the mark here; the core issue is that open windows on the taskbar are arranged based on the order in which they were launched.

For instance, if I launch an Explorer window first, then Opera, and then a second Explorer window,
without an extension, opening that second Explorer window causes it to automatically shove its way into a different position, pushing Opera over to the third slot.
The same thing happens with the third, fourth, or fifth window.

Beyond that, the open windows constantly dance around the taskbar against my will, disrupting the specific application order I've meticulously set up for utility.
My setup usually looks like: music folder + Winamp + documents folder + Word + ...
Instead of the standard Windows 7 layout where it would be: music folder + documents folder + Winamp + Word + ...

Keith Bennett38 said:@ Matthew Ramos61 - my taskbar doesn't group windows either, but that's an easy fix to implement.

As for the "Up" button, I find it entirely redundant. When I'm navigating through directories and need to jump back to a parent folder, I simply click the specific directory name in the address bar. Right next to the Back and Forward buttons, you have the full path displayed, allowing me to return to any preceding level with a single direct click. :-)

I am well aware of all that.
However, my point was more along these lines:

Initially, I felt quite foolish because I couldn't seem to locate even the most basic settings.
Then, I spent hours wading through endless forum complaints, scrolling through threads with over a thousand replies.
Later, I found myself reading Microsoft development blogs where they would describe exactly what is shown in the image above, only to bury the phrase "it will not be available" at the very end of a ten-thousand-word manifesto about how much they care about user experience.
In the early days, I actually felt a sense of regret that I couldn't install Windows XP on my laptop.
Microsoft 🤦

A classic Windows shell featuring some desperately needed refinements—like an actual Up button and the ability to disable those annoying breadcrumbs—plus a traditional Start menu if you’re into that sort of thing.

The taskbar.
It offers a lot of tweaks, but the one I actually care about is preventing all windows from the same application from automatically grouping together every time I open them.

I am honestly fed up with Microsoft.
After nearly a year of sticking with Windows 7, I still find this supposedly "modern" interface absolutely repulsive, despite all its supposedly brilliant features.
It is frankly ridiculous that I have to resort to installing third-party software just to reclaim basic, sensible functions like a simple Up button.☕

@Andrew Booth29
you totally missed the point of the rest of the post😁

The real issue is that all of you fall into the trap of believing in "perfect competition" as this magical self-correcting market mechanism—but honestly, that thing just doesn't exist in the real world.

I would appreciate a more precise definition of "as soon as possible."

To be perfectly clear, I have no interest in participating in the ongoing debates regarding whether certain mediocre series are overrated—a topic some moderators seem quite obsessed with. My sole intention is to publish my review of Star Trek. Therefore, I am once again requesting that the ban on my access to the fantasy subforum be lifted.

blueranger2 said:Given how much ground those Northern League separatists have been gaining lately, do you guys think a breakup of the Italian Republic is actually on the cards in the next 50 years or so? I saw a report where even a Berlusconi-esque figure's wife claimed that Italy was never truly a unified nation to begin with—which is a bit of a stretch, if you ask me—and suggested it hasn't quite matured enough to stay that way.👎

Let's hope so.

I absolutely loved that kiss. So many people just don't get what true romance looks like. To me, seeing that felt even more touching than if it had been a man and a woman kissing...

Anthony Kim18 said:The absolute best movie kiss ever? It’s from 'Brokeback Mountain'.

Believe it or not, that intense moment between Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain actually took the top spot in a recent poll by Netflix. Coming in at number two was that classic scene from Breakfast at Tiffany's featuring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard. Then you've got that steamy kiss between the real-life power couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, from Mr. and Mrs. Smith sitting at third. There was even one more guy-on-guy kiss on the list, though it was more about brotherhood than romance—the iconic moment between Holly Golightly and John Cazale in The Godfather.

You’re clearly obsessed, and I know you just love to stir the pot here, but damn, I’ve stumbled across at least ten different threads you've started specifically targeting gay people.
