The truth is, things have definitely improved lately when it comes to landing big acts, but if you ask me, there are still tons of massive, relevant bands that haven't even come close to playing here. Chicago promoters always try to act like they have this huge rotation of headliners, but honestly, when I look at FF, all I see is Depeche Mode for the new generation of Apple fans.
Man, I can't believe people actually slept on choosing FF over Killers. To me, this feels just like when Stereo MCs were in the mix last year—it's been played out and they were already touring through Chicago months ago. But hey, if everyone wants to hype them up because they dropped a new album, fine by me. I’m moving Scooter back above FF on my personal list.
Looking back at what we’ve actually been watching over the last year, I guess a lineup might look something like this:
Night one: Main stage - Kraftwerk and Enya Nokia stage - Fantasmagoria and Right Side Fred Metal - Europe and Anal Mandica Electronic - A Yammat DJ set and some guy remixing old American folk songs
Night two Main stage - Fred Durst unplugged and Scooter Nokia stage - Traditional Alpine folk dancers and Eddy Grant Metal - Xentrix and Hard Time Dance - EMF and some local gypsy band

I feel pretty much the same way. There's definitely a guy with style, but I don't know, personally, style is kind of fleeting to me. I don't really hold onto it for very long.
I wish the lineup for Sons and Daughters was better—if they were playing alongside Cave, I’d at least be down to go for a single day.

Amadou and Mariam were actually pretty great. I mean, they would’ve been incredible if they didn't have those weird gaps between songs—it felt like there was this dead air where maybe she was just sitting there wondering what to make for dinner tomorrow or something.
Hot Chip would've killed it at a venue like Madison Square Garden.
Nick absolutely crushed it, despite the sound issues and a freezing crowd that I think needed a little extra nudge just to get their hands up for a second. My favorites had to be Moonland and hard on for Love.
Dreadzone sounded awesome 😁 If I could’ve moved around a bit more, I probably would've caught my breath, but I ended up just heading home.
So, I see Cyril just got added to the website as a new announcement, but his face has been staring at me from the posters for a week already. Looks like the next big reveal is coming up:

I was scrolling through their forum, and apparently, the admin says they’ve only announced ten bands so far, even though the plan is to have thirty performing. Honestly, I think Nick is worth every cent I dropped on this ticket, especially with those folk-inspired acts playing in the background—it kind of sets the mood for sitting by a beer keg, I guess. But hey, that’s just me and the two other guys who actually listen to Nick Cave. If the rest of the festival lineup doesn't improve soon, they’re going to have completely wasted everything they've worked on over the last couple of years. We might as well go back to organizing gypsy shows at Aquarius.
I’m basically just sitting here waiting for them to announce a Testo + White solo unplugged set. Then we’ll finally have every single demographic covered. Not that there's anyone left to reach, I guess.
I don’t know what you guys are talking about, but if I remember correctly, most of the lineup was already pretty much set by this time last year.
Regarding Jazz at Lincoln Center, I saw them at an aquarium venue years ago. Honestly, seeing them live is kind of a snooze fest (their albums back then were decent enough, I guess). And what is up with that radio station? It feels like nobody plays music there except Ed Sheeran. If they aren't going to play anything else, he might as well be the face of the station and try to bring in Kruder and Dorfmeister at least.
Obviously, you need the electronic acts for Lollapalooza.
Watched an awesome Apple iPhone 3 last night, but man, that Danish The Spy Game was just a total snooze fest. I took a quick look at the lineup—there’s definitely some good stuff in there—but I’m running low on time... If I can swing it, I might catch the winners on Sunday.
I don't really have much to say about the Danish one, but regarding Apple... it's classic straight-to-the-point filmmaking, but with three really great leads. It was short, sweet, and stayed focused. It avoided all that cheap sentimentality, unnecessary dragging, and most importantly, it didn't fall into that tired "us versus them" cliché (though I'm sure not everyone will agree with me on that).
It felt like there weren't even that many people there, especially considering all the hype about massive media crowds. I guess most people finally realized they aren't that interested in animal sex 😁

I’m glad he’s sharing my take that "Lazarescu" is definitely on another level entirely, though I’d probably rate "4 Months" as just slightly more than "extremely solid." It’s such a shame he doesn't write more often. Pavičić, Rubeša, Jurak, Polimac, and that whole crowd at the local daily writing about modern cinema are just playing to the masses—it’s pure populism. Meanwhile, the "Ljetopisičari" crew like Turković, Krivak, Kurelec, and the rest don't even touch modern films, which makes Radić a truly valuable critic in that regard. If only he'd show up a bit more frequently.
That closing bit is gold. He basically tries to play it cool and act like everything is fine, but then admits you can't have the bread without the blood and the sex. I guess the only part in parentheses that actually makes any sense is the one sentence there.
