Look, I wasn't saying they were bad or anything. It's just... maybe they would've worked better in a smaller venue? I don't know. Honestly, it might have just been the sound quality coming from the other stage, which I really couldn't stand.
A, what even is this silent disco thing? I mean, what’s the point? It looks like the cops blocked off a hiking trail and suddenly you just have ten joggers in headphones jumping around so they don't catch a chill.
And another weird one. Massive Attack has corporate logos flashing behind them, while on the side, you've got two T-Mobile logos just grinning at you.
The Flaming Lips are a great band, but I don't think they belong on the main stage. It felt like the crowd's energy was directly tied to how many strobe lights were flashing—basically, the more effects, the more people actually cared. Only about thirty people were even singing along during Yoshimi :/
Dubioza Kolektiv was pure bliss. I haven't heard their latest stuff, but the crowd was totally into them. Really nice vibe. BSS—didn't hear much of them, but man, they sounded incredible. Such a shame I didn't show up earlier. Caribou—they were alright; I think they could really hold their own if they tightened up the set. 😁 New...—solid little band. Massive Attack—oh yeah, they killed it, even without the big screens. And Horace Andy? Total legend.
It was a good festival this year. Mary, seriously, fix the damn sound on the second stage. Which one is yours again? It’s been years and it’s the same crap every single time. Dragas, stop throwing Mary under the bus.
Listening to some Embryonic again today. Honestly, it’s either going to be an absolute smash or total trash—there isn't much middle ground with them, I guess. It would be pretty killer if they played Speak to Me by Floyd, though. I mean, since they already recorded 😁 , right?
Everything else? Forget about it. I was watching Dragasa on the morning news, and they were claiming Morcheeba was actually pretty decent too. Honestly, it’s kind of adorable.😁

I mean, maybe people are just getting lazy, or maybe the tickets have just become way too expensive at this point.
darkdriver56 said:hm... look, I'm honestly glad people liked Tricky, but I don't really get why. Just to be clear, I showed up specifically for him. I've been following his stuff for ten years, and the guy on that stage? That wasn't the Tricky I know and want to see. I was right in the front row, just staring, unable to believe what I was seeing. I don't see why they even needed "Ace of Spades," honestly. Even if you ignore the terrible sound quality, I think the real reason the performance sucked was that he looked as high as a kite—just a total wreck. I actually left before the end because I couldn't watch him anymore. I was incredibly sad, though. Not about the money I blew or waiting around for the set to start, but just because I couldn't bear to see him like that.
Was that my big emo moment? Maybe. 😢
That's a totally fair take. I haven't listened to him in a decade (or however long since that first album and whatever else), so I don't have that deep emotional connection (😁). But even though he’s basically become a flycatcher now, the band is still solid. If only the sound system had actually worked.
I mean, I still had a pretty good time myself. It was interesting. And what's wrong with "Ace of Spades"? Sure, maybe it didn't need to be played twice, but still.
n.e.r.d. - yeah, okay, less talking and more music would've been better, especially since they ended things with a corporate sponsor shoutout * s. garcia - nothing, zero, zilch antrax - everything was fine, I guess, but I only really caught two things before those "how can you even listen to this?" guys pulled me away *** moby - Simple Minds is a band name, right? But I'm pretty sure this guy's just doing his thing. When you're in a place like Chicago, you might not find anything super profound in this stuff, but it's fun enough tricky aka miso kovac 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙂
The organization was great, honestly, except they totally botched the sound at the main stage. And that actually matters quite a bit. Dammit. Also, shove a $12 kebab up your ass.
The last three Kawasaki releases? Honestly, they’ve been pretty solid. I guess they’re actually having a decent run lately.
Lilly is alright—pretty fun, actually. She’s probably perfect if you just want something light to kick things off while grabbing a first beer. I don't know, I guess I don't hate it.
Kraftwerk is just freaking incredible.
I don't even smoke, to be honest, and that low-key humming sound didn't do a thing to help either. belosvetski Ramirez.
FF is pretty boring. Though, you can tell they still have fans everywhere in America.
Dorfmeister is easily my biggest disappointment. I mean, we used to hit up the local arcade all the time, but now? At least we finally know which one of them is actually driving the bus. 😁 I heard that from the crew who were at last year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and honestly, after seeing it for myself, I can confirm they were right.
Man, I’m pretty bummed that I missed Roki. I didn't even make it over to the metal stage. Where is that actually located? Is it way further out than the main area near the entrance?
All things considered, this was probably the best organized setup we've seen yet. It’s a solid festival.
Man, Anthrax and Tricky are playing at the exact same time today. Talk about bad timing. :/
Noah Smith53 said:Honestly, they could have packed way more emotion, meaning, and actual intrigue into all those scenes. It’s pretty obvious if you just look at it. To me, the interview felt less like a deep dive and more like some boxing match where one guy takes the first few rounds, then the other guy fights back, and then the ref just raises both their hands at the end...
Maybe the guy wasn't trying to be dramatic; maybe he was just trying to stick to the actual facts?
I actually thought the movie was great—really excellent. If I had to nitpick one thing, though, it’s that the actor playing Nixon looks a bit too much like Brezhnev.🙏
Finally got around to watching it... It’s alright, I guess, but it didn't exactly blow my mind. I was actually starting to lose interest halfway through, but then that Stonehenge scene hit 🙂
Wes Anderson is decent enough. But he’s gotta throw in some pathetic little moment; that whole bit where Carmen is weeping against the window is total trash, but I kind of expect it from him, so it’d probably feel weird if it wasn't there.
By the end, I wasn't even sure how I felt about the pacing. Maybe it was okay that they didn't spend more time on Dan White, or maybe it worked because it showed how he was just simmering internally without making a huge scene out of it. I guess.
The acting was pretty terrible, honestly. Except for that surreal Spanish guy—the one who cries a bit too much, almost reminds me of KD Lang.
To add to what was said, I mean, FF can always pack out a venue in Chicago whenever they want. Plus, they’ve got a massive sponsor behind them now, so they’re definitely charging us a premium for tickets. People actually volunteer their time at the festival, too. I guess if you’re going to run something like that, you should probably put in a little more effort than the bare minimum.
