Ukyo Katayama to Williams? in Formula 1 ·
Anđeo said:The latest rumors suggest they might bring on a well-known Japanese driver for Williams next season. There’s also chatter about Adrian Newey moving from McLaren over to Williams because he’s unhappy with Mercedes. Apparently, Patrick Head is stepping down next year to hand the reins over to Mike Gascoyne (I can never remember the spelling of 😁). The same source claims Villeneuve will be the lead driver with Ukyo Kataya as his teammate, while Mika Hakkinen will serve as a test driver—mostly because his wife won't let him back on the track, even though speed is clearly still in his blood, as evidenced by that 7th place finish in the last Rally. 👍
Williams is reportedly struggling with front-end grip, so they might actually change up that nose design starting from the Canadian Grand Prix (presumably out of pure embarrassment).😁
Oh, those rumors....😁

You really have quite the imagination...

Mike Gascoyne is actually working for Toyota now, having signed a contract through 2006 or something along those lines.

As for Patrick Head, he handed over the technical director role to Sam Michael—who used to be Ralfov's race engineer—just two days ago.

Furthermore, Adrian Newey has a very long-term contract with McLaren... unless there's some performance clause I don't know about, he isn't going anywhere for a long time.

And regarding the Japanese driver in Formula 1... honestly, who would they even need? Unless, of course, Honda forces their way in (like Sato...).
Montoya turns down McLaren! in Formula 1 ·
Anđeo said:Montoya is honestly lucky he didn't join this season while McLaren is dealing with all these headaches; it’s much better that he arrives next year when they're back on the path to glory.😁 On a side note, that move he made on Michael in the tunnel was quite something—those Colombians really have an intense way of doing things, almost like they live by that old-school "eye for an eye" mentality.👎

That's not quite right... I think the saying goes "an eye for an eye, a toothbrush for a toothbrush."😁

Let's pray... and hopefully soon...

Anyway... why on earth would he sign that deal with McPusion a full year before even seeing what kind of car they were running??? Truly a legend, that Toyo fellow...

wearyraven41 said:It looks like Juan Pablo Montoya isn't actually interested in joining McLaren after all.

I was reading an article where an anonymous F1 team owner mentioned to The Wall Street Journal this past Saturday that the Colombian driver currently with BMW-Williams is actually attempting to back out of his deal to pilot that silver car starting in 2005.

To be fair, McLaren has been having a bit of a rough patch lately, barely managing to stay relevant in the midfield this season.

Per that same American newspaper, the management team for the 28-year-old Montoya is reportedly "exploring options with other teams" just as the latest round of driver market rumors starts picking up steam.

Honestly, nothing would make me happier than seeing Montoya head to a different team while McLaren finds its way back to the top of the podium... that would be absolutely wonderful! 😁

Message:
1) It took place at Fiorano (Ferrari's private test track) on April 21st (last Wednesday)

2) They utilized the short 1.413 km circuit

3) MS's best lap time was 58''433

4) Valentino completed 6 laps before spinning out while heading back to the pits—luckily, the car was completely fine. He then managed another 20 laps, finishing with an impressive 59''5... which puts him just one second behind MS!

Well, honestly, it doesn't seem like much of a "secret" test since I actually caught a mention of it on an F1 news site about a week ago. As far as I can tell, no major outlet has officially published the actual results, so you're really just speculating when it comes to these specific times...

By the way, that record seems like a bit of a rough estimate, because even the Sauber cars clock in at around 59''000 on that particular track.

Actually, even if this information turns out to be true, it isn't all that shocking. Is it really so hard to believe that "The Doctor" could hold his own in an F1 car? Personally, I think he absolutely could... though, when it comes to MotoGP, I still have a soft spot for Max Biaggi...
The Iceman... seriously? in Formula 1 ·
"Per The New York Times, Hans-Ulrich Maik, the managing director of Ilmor, the Mercedes-owned company that manufactures The team's engines, is being cast as the 'scapegoat' for what has been a truly dismal start to the season.

Such is The sense of frustration mounting AT Mclaren that The newspaper even reckons that , rather Than nurse his sick Engine during The early stages of The Bahrain GP, Kimi Raikkonen decided to hammer the throttle—essentially 'pumping fuel onto a fire'—just to see if he could coax that Mercedes-Benz V10 to erupt in a spectacular blaze right behind him.

I suppose that’s the end of us calling Kimi Raikkonen 'The Iceman,' isn't it?
"

It seems our 'Iceman' isn't quite as cool-headed as we thought... I still remember back in Malaysia when he lost his temper and took out that official just because he happened to be standing in the wrong spot. To be fair, you have to sympathize with him a little... dealing with three or four blown engines... anyone would be losing their mind at the manufacturer.

But there is a curious point here... why didn't David experience engine failures nearly as often? Perhaps young Kimi Raikkonen hasn't quite mastered the art of shifting gears yet?
😁 😁 😁 😁

Maybe the FIA should consider adding a footnote to the automatic transmission regulations specifically for those 'junior drivers' who haven't quite learned how to handle them properly.

And here is another bit of news:
"BAR's latest aero development - designed by Technical Director Geoff Willis, who was lured to the team from Williams three years ago - has been deemed illegal by the FIA. They judged it to include an illegal 'third element'."

It looks like Williams might have been feeling a bit intimidated by BAR... if this had been a case involving Ferrari and those tire issues from last season, people would be shouting about Ferrari not playing fair, but since it's this situation, everyone seems perfectly fine with it.🙄 🙄

That is all from me for now... heading off to Imola...
(Looking back at the results after Imola... Michael Schumacher had 4 pole positions and 4 wins)

Forza Ferrari!!!

That is quite an interesting take... Well done...

I didn't reach that conclusion based on last weekend's results... honestly, I made up my mind way back in '94. I was just a bit puzzled seeing this fellow start a whole new thread claiming Kimi is the superior driver when he actually finished right after Schumacher...

Who do you all think is the GOAT here?

Bridgestone actually made them 13.5" instead of 14"
and Rubens was the only one using them, unless you’ve stumbled upon some secret info the rest of us missed...

Good grief... I recall reading on a site—I think it was Formula 1 or something similar—that they tested about twenty different tire compounds during those 3108 miles sessions. But as it turns out, Michael wasn't even running the new ones; he stayed on the old set. It was just Rubens who had the new 13.5" tires... though, I distinctly remember an interview where Jean Todt mentioned they were looking into using the 14" versions if they could successfully "integrate" them into the aero package...

Blackbird... what exactly are you trying to imply there? A little bit of provocation, perhaps? Honestly, it seems I’m always the one getting blamed whenever I start rambling on a bit too long... tsk, tsk, tsk...

mistybear87 said:I think you've got that a bit backward.

Are you quite certain about that? Both Rubens and Michael were running 14" front tires, whereas they had switched to 13" during the race in France. It's worth noting that Williams has been utilizing those 14" setups since Monaco, and the results have been quite visible on track...

The FIA under Montezemolo said:What kind of nonsense is that? Take this one, for instance: "you can tell because Montoya has nearly run over his mechanics countless times..."
Do you remember? That was actually your own words... 😛
If it isn't just a fabrication, why don't you list those "countless times" for me (let's say at least three specific instances)... 😉

(I suppose I'm being a bit nitpicky here, though I find myself unable to help it at the moment) 😁

Well, in essence, that’s essentially what I meant... it just sounds much more dramatic when I write "countless"...

mistybear87 said:I was digging through some NASCAR data in the algorithm today and stumbled upon a rumor that
Bridgestone teams were running different compound hardness levels on their front and
rear setups (using hards on the front to handle the increased wear), and apparently, Goodyear
complained so much that the sanctioning body cracked down hard on tire
inspections.

Could that be why Bridgestone performed so poorly in those previous
races?

And one more thing—yesterday I noticed Rubens Barrichello was running tires that seemed significantly narrower than what MS was using, so perhaps that explains his pace...

Honestly, this news isn't exactly groundbreaking. I recall the Ferraris running a similar setup about two races before the Monaco GP... back then, Goodyear voiced some concerns during a couple of qualifying sessions and made quite a stir about it.

Otherwise, it seems like Williams Racing is utilizing those larger tires combined with a Goodyear's OTP (optimum tire patch) rear axle design, which helps minimize rear tire degradation while improving grip...

As for Michael Jordan and Rubens Barrichello, they seemed to have identical tire sizes, though I believe Michael opted for the Softs while Rubens went with the Hard type.

Austin Evans says Montezemolo:
Once, yeah... during a race... though heaven knows how many times he did it during practice sessions... goodness me...
But honestly, how many times has Montoya stepped on the toes of the mechanics in the pit lane? You don't have to give me an exact decimal figure... but you could at least give me a rough estimate... if it isn't too much trouble...

? And here I was thinking it only happened once? Well, I suppose there are always things I'm unaware of...

By the way, if you didn't catch my drift, I was merely being a little bit "provocative" toward Montoya with that post... there's no need to go on the defensive immediately... 🙄
France and Kimi in Formula 1 ·
Austin Evans says Montezemolo:
What are you even talking about? If we're discussing running over mechanics, Schumacher was actually the first one in recent memory to drive over crew members in the pits...
Try to look at the bigger picture here...

Well, please, do try to read the entire post... after all, he only did it once...

It really doesn't matter....

Austin Evans says Montezemolo:
They take driver and car safety incredibly seriously because of what happened with Senna... they really can't afford another tragedy like that one.

Well, you could certainly argue that based on how many times Montoya nearly ran over his own pit crew...

PS. It brings back memories of Schumacher.
