The core temp is sitting at 53°C.

The latencies are 7, 2, 2, 2.5

And the voltage is 1850mV.

Just wondering if there's anything I can tweak.

If you have the budget, I’d suggest picking up a better cooler.😁
Also, see if you can unlock the CPU... that might give you some room to bump up the multiplier.
Beyond that, there isn't much else you can really do. If it's performing that sluggishly even at 1.85V, you aren't exactly looking at a world-class overclocking chip here—and honestly, those Barton cores weren't ever known for being massive overclockers to begin with.

What was the stock frequency on that processor? Was it 166 * 10.5?

By the way, those latency numbers refer to your memory, not the processor itself.

Personally, I found last year's races in Belgium to be absolutely top-tier. Every single one of them was executed perfectly, strictly following the rules to the letter. 😂 😂

That felt a bit excessive for my budget, so I decided to go with Super Talent instead. I really didn't want to settle for some generic Kingston value RAM.

Well, that’s quite a significant amount of money... since I happened to be passing by anyway, I figured, why not?😁

Raymond Rodriguez40 said:The real issue with these motherboards is that most of what hits our local market hasn't actually been properly vetted; they technically function, but they haven't passed rigorous testing. That’s why we run into all those headaches with the FBI and general system stability. Honestly, try lowering the FSB and you might be surprised at the results.

As for me, I've been struggling with this super wet memory that the Epoxy completely fried (what a total disaster of a board!)... it manages to hit 200MHz, but it keeps skipping beats... however, once I dial it back to 166MHz, it runs smooth as silk. So, that's my current situation—I just keep tweaking everything until it works, even if the benchmark scores come in slightly lower than expected.

I don't think I mentioned this, but that Epoxy board actually ended up killing a 1GB A-DATA stick belonging to the guy I sold it to (after I had already processed a warranty claim and sent it back to him claiming it was fine!)... you can imagine his level of enthusiasm... I'm just glad I didn't try to offload that Toshiba DVD drive on him too; that thing refuses to read data DVDs... he probably would have killed me.

😁 😎

It’s pretty much common knowledge that the junk being imported into our markets is mostly sub-par. Because of that, whenever I was visiting the US, I made sure to stock up on as much hardware as I possibly could. The only things I didn't bother picking up were a new power supply or a monitor 😁 😁 because they're just far too heavy to lug around blindly. 😁

Raymond Rodriguez40 said:Heh... well, I actually own a PRO2 rev.2 myself.

It’s a fantastic board, truly top-tier, but there is one absolutely infuriating flaw...

I honestly have nothing but frustration for the engineers who decided to limit the voltage settings to just three increments, capping the increase at a mere 10% over the baseline! You can't even drop it below the CPU's default setting! It's just baffling.

It's quite a shame... everything else performs beautifully, except for those damn R U P A...
For a high-end board like this, it's almost a crime not to have holes provided... adjusting the voltage is easy enough, but having to physically drill holes yourself? That's where they really missed the mark.

Personally, using a mobile processor doesn't bother me much because the motherboard detects the default 1.6V automatically... and going up by 10% to 1.8V provides plenty of headroom for overclocking. If you really need more juice, you can always look into modding the processor itself.

Those missing holes definitely got under my skin too... I actually couldn't get my Zalman cooler to sit right because of them! For a little while, I seriously considered drilling them out myself, but then I started worrying about accidentally piercing something important on the PCB, so I decided to play it safe and gave up on the idea.

If you can overlook that one specific headache, this is easily a five-star motherboard.

brightgull15 said:Gerald Turner48, come on, tell us which motherboard you're running. I bet you don't even have SATA drives in that rig.

Intel Core i7-based motherboard
with an nForce2 chipset—I actually went ahead and added a custom heatsink to the northbridge because that tiny little stock thing they provide just isn't up to the task... plus, I’ve got coolers on the southbridge and the voltage regulators too...

On top of that, the whole case is basically a wind tunnel...

I'm running one IDE General Electric drive and one SATA General Electric drive (both are 160GB)

By the way, the CPU and board were sourced right here in the US... so perhaps that explains why the overclocking headroom is so decent...

I'm actually considering moving to liquid cooling next, though I haven't quite found the courage to pull the trigger on the installation yet (mostly because I did the build myself at home, so there's no warranty coverage if things go sideways 😁 )

Mind you, the VCore is acting a bit finicky, fluctuating between 1.73 and 1.78... I suspect I might be pushing the power supply right to its absolute limit...

It seems like you're getting into quite a premium series...

Personally, I managed to push my 2500 MHz setup up to about 2700 MHz by running at 243x11.5, but I hit a wall there even with 2.0V applied.

P.S. Why aren't you posting over on the Formula 1 forums?😁 I actually find myself missing your insights.

I just got back a week ago... I was away on some professional training here in the USA, so I'm only just now getting back online...

I'm currently getting some posts ready for Formula 1😁

Hey,

So, I recently picked up a Mobile Athlon and decided to have a little bit of fun tinkering with the settings...
I've bumped the FSB up to 240MHz, which provides just enough headroom to keep my memory running at 83% of its 400MHz rating (using some Kingmax sticks... they aren't the fastest, but they're reliable enough for my tastes)

The picture really says it all... I'm hitting 2.9GHz... and that's just using standard air cooling... while sitting at a modest 1.75V...

My only real gripe is that under Max load, the temperature climbs to about 58°C. It's a bit bothersome because I'm quite used to seeing temps stay under 49°C, but I'm hopeful that switching over to a liquid cooling setup down the road will fix that issue...

Here are the screenshots...

The Benchmarks show that it performs right in the same ballpark as an AMD Athlon 64 in almost everything, except for when it comes to memory performance 😁 😁

Are you thinking of Daytona International Speedway?

I mean, honestly, who could possibly memorize a track that’s 13 miles long with 73 different turns???
Free practice sessions would probably need to run for three hours each just to get a feel for it...

Just look at the names of the corners:
Ice Curve, Seesaw man!, Courage curve, Foxhole, Swedish Cross, Great oaks, Animal Garden, Antonius' Beech... (good grief, imagine if they were just called Curve 1, Curve 2, and Curve 3...)

By the way, I can't help but wonder what Michael Schumacher would look like driving in this day and age:

If only we could see Fangio in an F2004... actually, don't even start with me on that... it's just not realistic.

Aside from being perhaps a bit too long, what else could there be wrong with the track? 😁
It would certainly make for some intense viewing... they could always drop two races from the schedule—say, Canada and Monaco—to make room for this one.😁

We’ll just have to take things one step at a time and figure it all out as we go.
I’ve been thinking lately that there’s something quite charming about the idea of recording NASCAR races myself. I imagine capturing them all, saving them onto DivX, and burning them onto CDs. It sounds like such a methodical process, but honestly, after a while, I think I’d have a truly wonderful little collection of races put together. There's just something so satisfying about building a library like that, isn't there? 😁

mistybear87 said:That wasn't Prost, it was actually Mansell Mansell.

Mansell was quite literally weaving from one side of the track to the other, keeping Senna right on his bumper, yet he just couldn't find a way past him. I remember once watching a race like that, and when those two finally climbed out of their cars, they both looked absolutely spent—dripping with sweat as if they’d just finished a grueling multi-mile sprint through the humidity.

Fair enough, I wasn't entirely certain... my memory isn't what it used to be these days.😁

But my main point remains: honestly, screw tracks like that where you can't make a move even when your tires are practically non-existent. We really ought to be addressing those kinds of circuits rather than worrying about Indianapolis out :-(((((( or Spa.

Anđeo said:Monaco is honestly a disaster; there hasn't been a decent race there since Senna and Prost, and even that one felt a bit tedious. The only thing you really see there is a mountain of wrecked cars, especially when it starts raining—otherwise, it's just dull. Still, it is a legendary circuit, so I'm not entirely sure if they should scrap it. However, we definitely shouldn't touch Indianapolis, as that serves as the premier American race and has frequently provided excitement thanks to the unpredictable weather and those numerous McLaren victories.😁 It strikes me that if we look at this current season, with all these ultra-safe tracks and maintenance schedules designed specifically to prevent rain, we might as well just put a giant roof over every circuit and drive in perfect dry conditions.🙄 It seems rather silly; we used to have at least three or four rainy races a year, but this season, we've barely seen any.👎

But Monaco is always a bore... I recall back when, if I remember correctly, Senna fended off those attacks from Prost... Prost was running on fresh tires while Senna was basically driving on toothpicks... and yet, he still couldn't be overtaken. That's about all there is to say about Monaco...

We ought to simply stop calling these "races" and instead call them what they are—events where we might actually get lucky enough to witness an overtake...
Indianapolis Motor Speedway is out :-(((((( in Formula 1 ·
I just wanted to "make a point"... regardless of how glamorous Monaco might seem, the reality is that the track conditions are way, way worse than at other circuits... the safety standards are significantly lower, but there's that "prestige" factor at play—basically, it's just a massive money maker for Bernie.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway is out :-(((((( in Formula 1 ·
With this move, Bernie has essentially confirmed what most fans have suspected for a long, long time now... he simply couldn't care less about Formula 1...
His only real priority is lining his own pockets, and if he manages to wreck the sport in the process, well, that’s just collateral damage to him...

Personally, I am genuinely hoping that all the big powerhouses in 2005 decide to take matters into their own hands and launch their own series, managing the teams themselves rather than dealing with the way Bernie is running things right now... I mean, look at the logic—he'd probably ditch Indianapolis just because he’s short a few million dollars... but what about those thousands of loyal fans who show up faithfully year after year? They just get screwed over, don't they? And then Bernie has the nerve to call himself an American patriot??

The only thing that would truly make this situation better is if Bernie loses everything in that massive lawsuit against the banks...

The bottom line is this: let's scrap Canada, Monaco (and maybe Bahrain too... it was pretty dull for a year there), and instead bring back Indianapolis and those classic, legendary tracks... rather than these new nonsense layouts designed by Herman where the goal is just to cram 80% of the track with turns followed by a straightaway, thanks to Tilke...
Kimi to Ford? in Formula 1 ·
panced said:Once Microsoft leaves, Ford is going to settle right back into being a mediocre team, just like they were before Michael Schumacher arrived. Honestly, I couldn't care less who ends up losing in those red cars!😎

It doesn't necessarily have to mean that... though, as most people on this board already know, I am a massive fan of Michael Schumacher. My personal take is that Ford has actually built an incredibly fast car—and more importantly, a reliable one. Even if they didn't swap anything out for the next two years, they’d likely still be sitting right at the top of the standings...

As for the driver lineup... I’m really hoping we might see Mark Webber or maybe even Fernando Alonso pull a seat one of these days. I’ve even had a whimsical thought about seeing Valentino Rossi jump in, though I realize the odds of that are slim to none. Right now, there’s a decent chance Vitantonio Liuzzi might get a shot; I was quite impressed by his performance back in F3000, and he's shown some flashes of brilliance in Formula 1 as well...

On the other hand, I really wouldn't want to see someone like Kimi Räikkönen or Trulex behind the wheel. In my opinion, they both lack any real personality. Don't get me wrong, they drive quite well, which is perfectly fine, but I honestly think it would be more stimulating to have a conversation with a sack of potatoes than to try and chat with either of them...
