Computer issues / PC trouble in Desktops ·
I haven't seen any posts from you yet—are you planning to share something? kaže:
I’m still running Windows XP over here—and honestly, it’s been installed for ages.

You basically answered your own question there—if those systems have been running Windows XP forever without a wipe, they're probably crawling with junk, viruses, or some other kind of malware. Honestly, just formatting the hard drive and doing a fresh installation of Windows should clear everything right up.
Which PSU should I buy? in Desktops ·
If your power supply comes with a 24-pin connector, just go ahead and plug it in like this...

Open up the graphics card, blow out all the dust, and give it some fresh lube... You can't get anything done without a screwdriver handy 😁

The most important thing here is knowing exactly which motherboard you're running—do you have the manufacturer and the specific model number? We can't really pin down which processor generation you've got tucked away in there without that info. If you aren't sure of the exact model, maybe just download a little tool like Speccy? It should spit out all the details you need pretty easily.
Hey, it might not really matter, but there’s a basic difference—a USB drive is just a single flash memory chip, whereas a portable hard drive is basically the same setup as an internal desktop drive, complete with those spinning platters and a read/write head. So, if you happen to be a bit rough with it—say, tossing it on your desk without much care—that portable drive is way more likely to give up the ghost than a simple USB stick 😁. The catch, though, is that portable hard drives usually come with much larger capacities, which makes sense since they offer way more storage than a thumb drive. Personally, I have a portable hard drive that’s already five years old; I just keep it tucked away in a drawer and pull it out maybe once a month at most, and I've never run into any issues with it...

Sarah Nguyen96 said:They definitely matter. Back when I was running XP, YouTube would barely load, but the second I upgraded to 7, everything opened instantly. Now that I'm on a clean install of 10, I don't run into any issues at all.

That really doesn't have anything to do with it. Honestly, the reason things felt faster is because you wiped your hard drive and did a clean install of fresh windows—that's the real game changer. Your old XP setup probably had viruses or some random junk software clogging up the works, which slowed down your whole system... so naturally, YouTube felt sluggish too.
Personally, I’d lean toward getting an external hard drive—especially if your laptop has a USB 3.0 port. You should definitely pick up a high-speed USB stick or a portable USB 3.0 drive, too. Since you'll be moving pretty massive amounts of data, wouldn't you rather have those faster transfer speeds to save yourself some time?

Sarah Nguyen96 said:Which version of windows are you running? And is it an official license or did you grab it from some sketchy site?

Honestly, the specific windows build doesn't really matter—there isn't much difference between an "official" install and a pirated one once it's running. At the end of the day, all that actually matters is whether you have a valid product key.😁

Jesse Brown90 said:I've got the CPU sorted, but my power supply is only 550 W—man, these modern games are just too demanding. I can't help but wonder if they optimize things specifically to force us into buying newer cards, even though most stuff could probably run fine on older hardware. Take Crysis 3, for example—they slapped DirectX 11 on there, when everything would have looked great on DirectX 10 too. Why not just make it an optional setting like some other games do? Honestly, the graphics in new titles don't always look like they actually require a beastly rig. Just look at Doom; it's pretty middle-of-the-road, really.

LOL, what exactly are you looking for? Do you want to be running a 15-year-old bucket of bolts and still expect to play every new release without a hitch? Sorry, man, that's just not how it works...
Issues after upgrading motherboard and CPU! in IT Support ·
It doesn't really matter—RAM is RAM. If there were any compatibility issues with your motherboard, you wouldn't even be able to boot up Windows in the first place. Though, honestly, it strikes me as a bit odd that an LGA 1151 socket setup would be supporting DDR3 instead of DDR4 🤔 You could always try a BIOS update... if that doesn't do the trick, maybe run a few stress tests? I'd suggest trying Prime95 for the CPU, MemTest for the RAM, and FurMark for the GPU. Just run them one at a time and see if the system crashes under the load.

It’s gotta be that last shot with the three of them—hands down. 😁😁😁

The real issue here is likely those leftover drivers hanging around in your registry from your old components. Honestly—if you’re swapping out both your motherboard and your processor—the golden rule is to just wipe the drive and perform a fresh install of Windows. Trust me, it’ll solve your problems 100%...

Could you give me a bit more detail? Like, what specific processor are you running? Please list the exact model, and do the same for your power supply... If you aren't sure about the CPU model, maybe try downloading Speccy—it's pretty handy. For the power supply, you'll probably need to pop off the side panel of your case to see the manufacturer and model name. Once we have those details, it'll be much easier to help you out. Oh, and what kind of budget are we looking at for this new graphics card?

A GTX 960? Seriously? 🤣

Honestly, if you're looking at a GTX 750 Ti right now, you're probably making one of the worst value choices out there.

Oh man, I totally forgot about Team Red—the EVGA RTX 4080...

If you're running a 1080p monitor, I honestly think the gtx 960 would be a perfect choice for you...
Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
There’s no such thing as "fake" Windows—it all really comes down to having the right product key. Why bother uninstalling updates? Just shoot me a PM and we can get this sorted out properly.

That’s a bit too vague—you’re going to get whatever kind of answer you put out there. Can you give me a little more context? Is this slow loading happening just here on Reddit, or is it happening across other sites too? Also, have you tried running an antivirus scan or maybe clearing out some junk with CCleaner? It might help.
Chrome extensions not working on Windows XP in IT Support ·
I think this might be your first post here, but maybe try running CCleaner to clear out your history, cache, and all that other junk—see if that actually fixes the issue.
