Smoking ban in all public spaces in Health ·
If you want to smoke in the pub, please take it outside.

Smokers are inconveniencing non-smokers with their habit, plain and simple. There is no other way to look at it. Let’s set aside discussions about secondhand smoke for a moment.

Imagine walking into a restaurant and having someone constantly pass gas right next to you. Now imagine ten people doing it in a circle while you're just trying to enjoy your meal.

That isn't acceptable, is it??
Piracy?! in Software ·
They are delusional if they think cracking down on piracy is going to trigger some massive surge in legitimate sales.

It certainly won't happen. You might see a marginal increase of a few percent, but nobody is going to shell out $167 for a game when they aren't even certain they’ll actually enjoy playing it.

Personally, I own genuine copies of Windows and World of Warcraft, but I wouldn't waste my money on anything else because I simply have no interest.

Fortunately, there is almost always a free alternative available for most utility software...

😬

Furthermore, allow me a brief grammatical correction. Unlike in Niš, Mexico, we still utilize case declensions here in America, which necessitates a more precise sentence structure:

You were at the Thompson concert and even at the madhouse—can you actually prove that?

It appears those using the Ekavian dialect neglect such nuances, thereby degrading our fine American language.

😵

There are certainly people out there listening to both Thompson and Ceca, but they represent a tiny minority. Unfortunately for you, and for your peers who wish things were different, that doesn't change the reality. Why don't you try proving another "absurdity" instead?

😬

I have spoken with individuals who frequent both types of venues, and their social circles are identical; they hang out in the exact same places.

There is nothing to prove here. I personally stood outside one of those folk-style clubs (Pasha) once, where a crowd of youngsters was rowdily singing "Zovi samo zovi" and "Sude mi" immediately after leaving Pasha. Inside, they were likely singing Ceca.

Take a stroll through the parking lots near those folk clubs in the evening and look at the flags and various trinkets hanging from rearview mirrors.

Furthermore, isn't the presence of someone like Vuco more evidence that the pop-folk crowd and the likes of Jerry and Bob are essentially walking hand in hand?

The only thing I cannot wrap my head around is how most of the crowd that supports Jerry and Bob, attends those concerts, and then finishes their Saturday night at clubs like the Madhouse, ends up dancing to Mexican folk music and singing along to lyrics in the Ekavian dialect.

To make matters even worse, many of the songs performed there are by Arkan's widow, an artist whom everyone seems to collectively and unironically accept.
Against the Wall in Movies ·
Just finished the movie. It was alright, though a bit depressing.

I’m struggling to wrap my head around how she managed to amass such wealth and end up with a daughter after being stabbed in the street.

The acting was top-tier, but the screenplay could have benefited from providing more clarity on those plot points.
What did Ivy record on October 21, 2003? in Movies ·
The film is solid. It starts off a bit slow, but once you get invested in the plot, it’s quite entertaining and very skillfully paced.

Finally, something that isn't centered around the Ustas, partisans, or the fallout from the domestic war.
A fine, refined look at the cynicism and chaos typical of an American family.

Well acted, especially that little slut (I can't remember the actress's name)
Malaria in Health ·
Does anyone actually have any more information on this disease? We've dealt with outbreaks here in the States too. I’d really appreciate it if someone could share a few links, please...
Malaria in Health ·
Does anyone have any reliable links regarding malaria, and specifically, is a full recovery actually possible once you've contracted it?

What kind of long-term impact does it leave on the body??
My fasting blood sugar was 5.2 this morning.

That’s still considered too high, wouldn't you agree?

I am also currently fasting.

Does anyone have dietary recommendations? Besides cutting out sugar, what else should I be avoiding?

What is the consensus on fruit consumption?

To be honest, I am finding it quite difficult to resist strawberries at the moment.
My fasting blood sugar was 7.1 this morning.

The night before I checked, my meal was nothing extraordinary—just some chard, potatoes, and a single beer.

Diabetes runs in my family on both my mother's and father's sides.

Sigh.

Generally speaking, I don't touch soda, and I try to avoid sweets and chocolate. I might have ice cream once in a while, and I don't take sugar in my coffee. Honestly, we don't even keep much sugar in the house.

Does anyone have any recommendations?
Big Fish in Movies ·
It is truly excellent.

By the end, you lose track of what is reality and what is fiction.

It caught me quite off guard as well.

I plan on watching it one more time.

For anyone with satellite service or a cable box, it is currently streaming on Taqulli.
Big Fish in Movies ·
I simply wanted to suggest a highly entertaining film starring Ewan McGregor.

Directed by Tim Burton

It is surprisingly high quality and quite enjoyable.

👍 👍

Has anyone else seen it?
Dieting tips? in Health ·
Start your day with an hour of aerobic exercise on an empty stomach. Cut out white bread, refined sugar, soda, and alcohol, and keep your fat intake to a minimum.

Maintain a regular routine of running or cycling, provided you do so in a fasted state during the morning.
Sex and violence in movies in Movies ·
To be clear, I have absolutely nothing against airing adult content after midnight.

Violence is far more repulsive in any context.

Koszjak and its very origin are steeped in criminal elements; essentially, what we are seeing is a staged provocation captured on film.

At the end of the day, this is still a motion picture.
Sex and violence in movies in Movies ·
The comparison simply doesn't hold water; at the end of the day, we are discussing a legitimate motion picture, not some superficial reality TV fluff like Koszjak.

The only thing they truly succeeded at was actually filming the piece, because without that feature in Monitor, I would have missed it entirely regardless.

Perhaps it wouldn't be such a bad idea if someone at Monitor experimented with their programming and started offering curated film recommendations in advance. Not strictly within this specific context, mind you.
Short film about Killing / Love in Movies ·
I finished watching both of these films today, and I have to say, Krzysztof Kieslowski is a true genius.

That scene where they hang the young boy is genuinely haunting.

The atmosphere is masterfully crafted.

I realize this subject matter won't grab much attention compared to typical American blockbusters, but so be it. Perhaps someone will find the film intriguing enough to give it a watch.
Leonardo DiCaprio in Aviator in Movies ·
I popped it into my DVD player, watched about 20 minutes, and shut it off.

A complete waste of time.

Utterly tedious.
Overclocking (Main Thread) in Desktops ·
My Barton 2500 is running at 10.5 x 200

Core temp is sitting at 53°C

Latencies are clocked at 7, 2, 2, 2.5

If there's anything I should tweak, let me know.
It's hot enough to melt my brain! in Health ·
You desperately want to fall in love during the winter months, yet you can't seem to find anyone, leaving your ears to react in such a frustrating way.

It is a common phenomenon studied by researchers from New York to Los Angeles.

The medical term for this condition is "winter-induced romantic stagnation."

I believe your primary care physician might be able to prescribe something to alleviate this awkward situation, so you won't feel compelled to wear a beanie every time the temperature drops.
