Caught this movie at Broadway tonight and I’m still processing it. It was incredible. The cinematography, the direction, the acting—everything hit hard. It’s one of those rare, powerful films that can make you lose your temper, laugh until you cry, and then leave you feeling completely hollow. I'm still a bit shell-shocked, so excuse the rambling, but honestly, you need to see this when it hits theaters. 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍

The cinematography is killer, the directing is spot on, the acting is top-tier, and it’s just one of those incredibly powerful movies that can drive you absolutely insane one minute, make you laugh until you cry the next, and then leave you feeling totally gutted... Honestly, I'm still buzzing from it so I'm probably just rambling, but seriously, you guys have to see this when it hits theaters. 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍

Ha! Looks like we were at the same theater then...
Well, okay, I'm not so sure about "powerful"... but by American standards, it's a decent little indie flick. The only thing that really landed was that perfectly played, plastic little hillbilly character played by Gregory—that guy who's desperate to hang with the "big shots" and ends up getting totally played by the outsider...
Since this is supposed to be some sort of "cinema verite" thing, like an American take on "Dogme 95," Showalter is doing her usual over-the-top thing, being way too theatrical and "hysterical" for this style of film before finally pulling herself together... Ivy is basically nothing, just part of the scenery, like she isn't even there... it would've been way more interesting if she actually had a coherent perspective or something... the rest of them? Fine, I guess...
I really missed having some heavy catharsis from the characters, especially since the movie is pretty stripped down visually. But whatever, it was alright all things considered.

So why didn't you reach out!? We could've grabbed a drink...
Anyway... I thought Anna was great. She didn't feel "theatrical" at all; it’s just how her character is built. Prehistoric, buzzed, high-strung, and so on. Really solid performance. But, obviously... you can't compare her to Ivo Gregurević, who is just a genius. This is easily his best work. Completely convincing. As for the kid... she had her moments. She wasn't bad, but she wasn't exactly mind-blowing either.

sounds like a cool concept for a movie

but I don't know, having Tomislav Radić behind the camera doesn't exactly scream "good idea" to me🤮

I doubt I'd go out of my way to watch it, though maybe I'd stumble upon it by accident... you know, like on a bus, or in a waiting room, or just while channel surfing late at night🙂

...so I was just scrolling through The New York Times today and stumbled upon this review titled 'the first American Dogme 95 film that actually isn't'... honestly, I have my doubts—can a movie ever truly live up to a brilliant review like the one Pavicic wrote? (he really nails it sometimes, doesn't he?)... but hey, I'll give it a shot anyway...

...actually, I'm kind of looking forward to it 🙂

Everyone I know told me this movie is absolutely killer.🙂

Honestly, the film is just fantastic.👍

It follows the events of a single day during Ivan's birthday, all captured on Ivan's own camera. It covers everything that could possibly happen in any household... the usual arguments, debates, nonsense, and jokes. Just a really solid little flick.🙂

Playing at the AMC Theater. Showtimes are at 4:30 PM and 6:00 PM.

I'm actually just getting ready to head to the theater to catch this movie! I'm really hoping it lives up to the hype, especially since I've heard nothing but glowing reviews everywhere. I honestly can't wait, hehehe! 😁

...finally got around to watching it...

...the movie is BEAUTIFUL—simple, yet gripping (to quote my sister—there were moments where I felt like I was sitting right there at dinner with them). It’s brilliantly paced; it doesn't try too hard to reinvent the wheel, but everything is so well-structured that it never slips into being monotonous... really solid acting (which, let's be honest, is a rare find in American indie cinema), and a smart script (it's a shame they didn't lean more into improvisation, which usually works wonders for this kind of thing—but then again, with American actors, I guess that might have been considered too "risky")...

...but what really blew me away... Radicev's film is a "true" Dogme 95 film. It’s such a missed opportunity that they didn't bother chasing the certificate—it would have been great to have an American film standing shoulder-to-shoulder with those little masterpieces by von Trier and Vinterberg...

...in many ways, the film reminded me of Vinterberg's brilliant "The Celebration," and even if it doesn't quite hit all his superstar peaks, it's fair to say that "Ivy" doesn't fall far behind him...

...inspiration for believing in anything seems to be in short supply lately, obviously, but—DEFINITELY WATCH IT!!!! 🙂

I’ve got a few questions about this movie:

1. Is this some kind of family or social drama?
2. Does everyone speak with perfect, textbook diction?
3. Do they have sticks up their asses?
4. Is one girl's dad a former partisan while her boyfriend's dad was a former secret police agent?
5. By any (impossible) chance, is Ivo Gregurević in this?
6. Are the interiors filled with antique furniture?
7. Is there actually any humor in this thing?
8. See my answer to number 7—though I don't count jokes that end with "hahaha, he should've just told him!"

thanks 😁😁

...joooooj, Jose Miller17, oh Jose Miller17...🙂 look, I get it—an American film isn't a *real* American film unless it hits all those tropes... but "Ivy" really—it DOESN'T 😁 Except for number 5, and arguably number 8 (since some things aren't totally unfunny), the answer to your list is—NO 😛 So now—GET TO THE THEATER! 😁 😁 😁

Man, I seriously can't wrap my head around how anyone could pick a title like that! 😁

How are you even supposed to say it? "I'm going to watch What is Ivy..." or "Watching Ivy..." or "October 23rd..." 😕 😁

The film is solid. It starts off a bit slow, but once you get invested in the plot, it’s quite entertaining and very skillfully paced.

Finally, something that isn't centered around the Ustas, partisans, or the fallout from the domestic war.
A fine, refined look at the cynicism and chaos typical of an American family.

Well acted, especially that little slut (I can't remember the actress's name)
