Honestly, I haven't sat through a video this brain-dead in forever.

Obviously, because it all comes down to the car. 🙂

Or how graniteharbor502 would put it—"these races are going to separate the boys from the men." Except for Hamilton, obviously...

graniteharbor502 said:Anyway, that whole thing with Germany got me thinking about 2019. That’s three wet races in a row now where Lewis is just messing up and sliding off the track (Germany 2019, Turkey 2020, and now this one).

Funny enough, out of those three races, he still scored points in all of them, won one, and took second in another. It's kind of wild how much he's actually slipping up.
The fact that he actually outpaced Max Verstappen is going to be huge for Sergio Perez's confidence. Daniel Ricciardo pulled off a killer final lap to save his weekend in The Finals after things looked pretty grim, though Lando Norris probably has plenty to be salty about. Vettel finishing as low as 13th... yeah, that could really mess with his head even more.
Pretty wild qualifying session. Honestly, this season could actually be something special.
They're dealing with some technical glitches regarding the signal.

It all went down right when Nikita Mazepin spun out, and they just cruised past Carlos Sainz—who was sitting there stuck on track—while the yellow flags were waving and they were basically flooring it. Just pure chaos. 😍

By the time Nikita Mazepin spins out, Fernando Alonso is already hitting Turn 9 and Lewis Hamilton is way up in Turn 6. They aren't even in the same sector as the crash, so honestly, there’s zero logic in penalizing those two. When Alonso pulls alongside Carlos Sainz, he looks like he’s just giving him room—no yellow flags anywhere near them. Same goes for Lewis Hamilton, who’s just a couple corners behind Alonso. Total nonsense.

Then again, you’ve got Valtteri Bottas looking at this from about 100 meters ahead of Sebastian Vettel—and since we don't have any cameras on Vettel, this is basically his view.

Proof right there that Valtteri Bottas is running circles around Sebastian Vettel.

I can't see the link you shared, so I don't have anything to work with yet. Drop the content whenever you're ready and I'll get on it.

It’s blindingly obvious why Sebastian Vettel got slapped with that penalty for not slowing down, while Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso walked away clean. Honestly, everyone except you seems to get it.

It’s just like back in the day in soccer, back in '92 when goalies could actually kick the ball and then grab it with their hands. Then they changed the rules later and suddenly you can't do that anymore. Same deal with this corner. It's pretty pointless bringing up examples from other races or different seasons when the rules and the instructions weren't even the same back then. Max accepted the loss, Christian Horner accepted the loss, Helmut Marko accepted the loss. But somehow, you just can't...

ruggedhawk20 said:Why bother reading some manifesto written by some track director? Every single weekend, I see a massive crowd of drivers showing up at Sedona. And that’s even with Corona in the mix!!!

Just get to the track. Any track. See what actually happens. Then come back and try to pass judgment.

Man.

Is Sedona some brand new, state-of-the-art multipurpose circuit? No.
Are those other newly built tracks where they run Formula 1? Yeah.

Does Sedona meet the standards for Grobnik build 1, and will an actual Formula 1 race ever be held there in its current state? Nope.
Do those high-end tracks on the Formula 1 calendar satisfy those requirements—which, by the way, makes them way more expensive? Definitely.

Etc, etc, etc...

Comparing Sedona—which I rented out for $67 just to drive my own car—to any modern Formula 1 track using any kind of logical metric just proves you have zero clue what you're talking about. It's the same deal with this idea that promoters want everyone to finish the race; the actual data shows the opposite, since the races with the most views and highest reach are the ones filled with DNFs and crashes.

You're wrong. There's no shame in admitting it, so just own up. As far as I'm concerned, this debate is over, so you don't need to keep quoting me or replying.

ruggedhawk20 said:Luis Salo, a MotoGP rider, died at the track in Barcelona because of the asphalt run-off area. If that run-off had been made of gravel, Luis would've survived.

That's the deal.

It’s obvious why we don’t have gravel. It's just so they can have fewer DNFs, which means more cars on the TV screen.

And while we're talking about amateurs... well, amateurs don't even use Grade 1 tracks because they're way too expensive.

Come down to a local track like Laguna Seca this weekend and you'll see it's packed with people from all over. They aren't heading to Misano or Adria, they're coming here. And Laguna Seca is covered in gravel. You rarely see anyone actually end up in it.

Nah, it’s not really about that. Go read an interview with the director at Paul Ricard. Or better yet, read an interview with race organizers about where their funding actually comes from. It’s pretty clear this is all just a math problem, not the nonsense you're rambling about. Every infrastructure project these days has an investor behind it, and those investors want their money back. For most tracks, F1 is either a total money pit or they're just breaking even. Take Melbourne—without $30 million AUD from the local government, that race wouldn't even be worth doing, even if they lead the season and the stands are always full. For tracks like Paul Ricard, hosting an F1 race is all about prestige; they use it as a pitch to sell the track to other racing categories—basically telling them, "Hey, come drive on the same circuit where F1 races." They don't just survive off that one race, either. Look at Hockenheim—they almost went bankrupt despite having plenty of gravel.

ruggedhawk20 said:If they just had gravel in the runoff areas, we wouldn't have any of these problems. Honestly, they wouldn't even need referees, rules, or some official interpreting the rulebook. Just a good patch of gravel would deliver justice naturally.

They don't have any guts. Total fakes.

graniteharbor502 said:I'm with you on that.

It’s not about being fake or making excuses, it’s just basic math. You don't build a track with gravel traps if it only serves one niche group of racers. Modern tracks are designed to be versatile, catering to all kinds of drivers—including the amateur crowd—and those guys don't want to be sliding through gravel every time they miss an apex, nor do they want to be inches away from a concrete wall. Think about how things work over here in the States. Look at any of the massive new stadiums popping up; nobody builds a billion-dollar arena just to host a football game once every two weeks. They build multi-purpose hubs meant for concerts, shopping malls, training facilities, and movie theaters. It’s all about the bottom line. It isn't some conspiracy or a lie; it's just a simple economic calculation. If it doesn't make money, it doesn't get built. Period.

Look, if we start trying to link being an absolute asshole to having a high IQ, then we're already lost. 🤣

Honestly, Lewis Hamilton is one of the cleanest drivers out there. When he's wheel-to-wheel with people, he rarely pulls any dirty moves, which is a hell of a lot more than you can say for most other champions.

neonfox65 said:But he literally said on the radio he was running wide in that corner the whole race. He even claimed he didn't know the rule existed.

Lewis Hamilton knew exactly what he was doing. Everything gets laid out during the driver briefing with Messi and the stewards before the race starts. They get told the same stuff I just told you, and then the drivers—Lewis included—and the teams just push the limit. They stretch those rules until they snap. It’s just how it works. Of course Lewis is gonna play dumb on the team radio afterward; honestly, it’s just him being smart.

neonfox65 said:First off, that rule is just plain stupid. They made the track narrow specifically where they thought overtaking would happen. Like, only on the straights using DRS. They really blew it this time, totally failed.👎

You're just salty because things didn't go Max's way.
2021 Bahrain Grand Prix Race Thread in Formula 1 ·
Look, the whole situation at Turn 4 just makes sense. Even the drivers were saying it after the race. It’s pretty simple—you’re supposed to learn where the limits are during qualifying. In qualifying, there's zero wiggle room because every single millisecond counts. But during the actual race? Things change. Fans hate those arbitrary five-second penalties that just ruin the flow of a race. People want to see them fight on the track. You only get flagged if you take an obvious, unfair advantage. Everyone was playing a little dirty out there, which is fine by me, since nobody actually gained a massive lead from it. But Max had to give that spot back after that overtake. It’s fair, it’s logical, and that’s that.

He got slapped with a penalty because he clearly saw Mazepin spinning out and just sitting there on the track, yet he didn't lift off the gas. Sebastian Vettel is out here trying to claim he couldn't tell if it was just a lockup or if Mazepin had actually spun, so he didn't react fast enough. Whatever. He definitely saw things were going south, and the stewards decided his excuses just didn't hold water.
