Mistake in Godzilla?! in Movies ·
Jose Chase2 said:I honestly don't get why everyone is trashing this movie—it's like they completely missed the point that Emmerich is actually making fun of Americans in general, especially regarding the military and that whole "if you don't do exactly what we say, we'll crush you like a bug" attitude.

Are you actually talking about "Starship Troopers" right now?
Jonathan King said:in the movie Audition, the character basically implies that it's totally fine to go after the daughters of dead creeps—and if you can milk breasts, you should just do it as often as possible.

Aha! Well, there's your reason why they don't screen that flick at the local nursing homes!!!

Does anyone else feel like that moment in Pirates of the Caribbean between Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp felt like the "start of a beautiful friendship"? They just sort of drifted off together into the sunset... honestly, how romantic 🙂

Now take a look at that monster screaming atop the Empire State Building! Are you starting to notice the sheer, unadulterated stupidity of what you're doing? Hmmm?

Well, those kinds of "brilliant" solutions exist in real life too. I still remember people during the wars over here who thought they could take down fighter jets by shooting rifles from their apartment balconies. 😁 😁 Mirko, watch out for the bullets!!! 🙂

Just incredibly slow and tedious—it was driving me up the wall (mind you, I don't mind a slower pace if there's actually some kind of plot unfolding). Since I keep hearing this is supposed to be one of his absolute masterpieces, I'm starting to feel pretty skeptical about all this "artistry" people rave about.

Look, his other movies are a completely different beast—way more high-energy and just straight-up insane, if that's what you're looking for. Audition is probably his most "high-brow art house" flick, which is likely why it gets the praise. Critics generally can't stomach the pure, unadulterated madness and genre-bending chaos he pours into his other stuff.

If you ask me, though, the whole thing is really just a movie about the gender wars... a story of female vengeance. 😈 😈
The absolute genius!!! 🙏 🙏 🙏
Quentin Tarantino is incredibly productive, inventive, entertaining, captivating... everything! What I love most is how he takes a conventional genre—usually crime—and just completely deconstructs it. He respects a few basic tropes, sure, like the hero versus the villain dynamic, but then he throws in these plot twists that just blow your mind. You’ll be watching what feels like a totally grounded story, and suddenly it veers into fantasy, or shifts from a gritty crime drama straight into science fiction. It’s unbelievable, yet somehow, it all works perfectly.
And he does it all on a shoestring budget, playing in that "straight to video" territory, haha.
Audition—that might actually be his most eccentric film I've ever seen. (Though Itchy the Killer is definitely the most violent.)
To me, that movie is really about a dysfunctional family, which—let's face it—is pretty common in modern America. It's just that good old Tarantino takes that initial concept of dysfunction and pushes it to the absolute extreme. You end up with a mother who's an addict, a son who's a sadist, a father who's a necrophile, and a daughter who's a prostitute (if I recall that list of perversions correctly 😁 😁). Basically, life is hitting these people hard, and don't even get me started on how much they clash as a family unit. So, one day, this mysterious figure from Audition intervenes—think of it as a sort of "divine intervention"—to set things right. Through unconventional methods, obviously. But then again, when would anything ever be conventional with Tarantino?
🙂

Listen, if you happen to have a copy of this on a hard drive somewhere, would you mind sending me a DM?

Summer of Kikujiro—it’s one of those "feel-good" movies. It’s charming, honestly, and reminds me quite a bit of Wenders' "Alice in the Cities"—you know, that dynamic where a man and a child travel together, and through the journey, their relationship shifts, along with their own personal growth. It drags a little too long in certain spots, but overall, it’s warm, emotional, and possesses this uniquely quirky sense of humor...

Does anyone happen to know anything about other films like this? Any recommendations?

Personally, I’d much rather go with "life is beautiful." I'm just not really in the mood for all this typical American gloom and doom...
