You don't really need those kinds of stunts to make a point—I guess Naomi Klein writes books about this stuff and gets plenty of attention without all that.

I suppose I could understand Hitler too, given his own internal motivations. You can understand any human action without necessarily justifying it.
I don't really buy that you need a broader perspective to criticize this specific case. What happens in Iraq, for instance, is a completely different matter. Besides, you usually notice people get way more worked up about stuff like this than they do about random consumer goods.🙂

Do you eat meat? You too, Ashley Brown81?
I mean, I’m watching it, but I still think killing that donkey was just stupid. There are plenty of ways to make it look like a donkey died without actually doing it—I guess. The dumbest part, though, is that they didn't even end up putting that scene in the final film.
brighttinker19 said:I guess you guys are going to turn this whole thing into a huge scandal just because some idiot isn't "justified"... maybe.
What's actually worse—they aren't even bothering to justify what happened to those 40 civilians... I guess we're just supposed to take it for granted.

It’s just not justifiable—the death of that donkey didn't actually serve any purpose. And honestly, just because people kill each other for no reason doesn't mean it's okay to kill animals for no reason, too. I can't quite wrap my head around that logic—you know, the whole "well, he isn't great, but look at how much worse others are" thing.

Jose Chase2 said:I guess Lars von Trier is just an untalented hack—maybe he's just a madman, honestly.🙂

🙂
Anywho, why is everyone always so obsessed with making an argument? I guess to me art isn't really about logic or rules—it’s more like, it either works or it doesn't.

Not for me, I guess—if someone’s going to claim that Lars von Trier is some talentless hack, they should probably bring more to the table than just saying "I don't like him."
Honestly, sometimes you just realize a woman starts getting too much of an ego—or maybe she's just acting out—and it's not really my thing. I guess the question is, how do I even bring that up without sounding like an idiot?

First off, you’ll have to explain what you mean by "mocking"—I'm guessing you aren't talking about someone getting touched inappropriately during an album shoot, but more like something related to the music itself, I guess.
And besides—if arguments actually meant anything in art, I guess you’d expect all music critics to be giving the exact same reviews for every album.

Nah. Even in science, you get different interpretations of the exact same thing—it’s just how everything works, I guess.

Keith Jones19 said:Alright, let's hear it—who, what, how, and why. Though I guess the why isn't strictly necessary, and I'm probably not even sure how I'll make it through this...

Not sure which one you mean—Dancer in the Dark or Five Obstructions? I'm guessing the latter. It’s basically that movie where Lars von Trier "pushes" another director to re-shoot certain scenes from an old film in five different ways, all while setting these strict rules for him. Honestly, his whole goal seemed to be just messing with the guy's head—which, I suppose, he managed to do. 😁

Well, that's kind of why I said he was crazy--I guess.😉

Keith Jones19 said:btw, I actually love that story about her and Werner Herzog during the filming of Dance in the Dark. Apparently, she was so traumatized by him that she'd just spit in front of him every single morning before they started shooting.

Most people say it was actually her who traumatized him, though—I guess I'm kind of on his side since I like him more 😁 but he's probably just as crazy as she is.
Every single topic you post seems to be stupid to you—you're pretty rude, I guess 🙂
I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that I'm out here judging everyone else 🙂
I don't get offended, and it doesn't physically bother me—honestly, I just need good music, and lately there’s so much of it available that I’m almost worried about how much more we can handle 🙂
You can't really claim you aren't being judgmental when you call music "that noise" just three words later. And frankly, I couldn't care less if someone finds me annoying just because I'm not being politically correct—I'll be blunt and say I prefer listening to better stuff than whatever Perri Perry is doing while shaking her hips at some club in Miami every weekend.
It's nice that you play that kind of music at your parties, but it feels different seeing, say, three guys—two of whom are dressed as women—shouting "I am the boy, she is the girl, he is the bear," versus hearing that same thing at a party. For me, it's a religious experience, and even if I'm in the minority, I think I deserve that feeling just as much as anyone else watching some pop star shake their assets on stage. Let there be a thousand folk clubs if that's what people want, it doesn't bother me. But if that's all there is, then we're pretty pathetic.
Carol Jackson45 said:That’s a fair point... here in America. 👍 I guess we’re lucky to be in Washington, D.C., which—to be fair—is doing pretty well compared to most other cities.

yup... though I still think the weaker lineup at Marsh is a pretty big loss, even if you're just looking at Washington, D.C.
Regarding that second thing, look, you're definitely in the minority here. 😉

well, I ended up seeing both acts a few weeks later at a much nicer venue anyway😍
Maria Peterson said:So, Best and Kseta are both looking at us... I guess it’s your call whether you want to show up for one or the other—or neither, really. It's your right, isn't it?

Totally. Now, I guess you'd have to count how many clubs in America are actually like Best—and then see how many are more like Kset. That’s really the whole point.
Ipanema said:I was one of those people who showed up at Marsh—standing there with a massive crowd, just waiting around the entrance for two hours.
If those opening acts had actually walked out on stage instead of Let 3 after all that waiting—man, I guess the Marsh would’ve been all over the local news by the next morning.

A few of us headed over toward the Marsh, but once we heard there wouldn't be any opening acts—well, we just turned around and called it a night. 🙂 Who's actually looking out for us? I guess. 🙂 😁
I'm with you on the Mocvara thing—it’s a shame, I guess. 😢

Robin Booth said:It kind of reminds me of that girl from San Diego who decided to major in history just because Bruce Springsteen studied it.😬
if you don't know the story, go ask a sailor😉 😲

I know the story—and honestly, I hate you for it right now.😁
anyway, I totally fell for it🙂
(btw, she didn't actually major in history because she didn't get in, she just said she'd keep trying 🤣 )

Thomas Hernandez21 said:Oh yeah, I don't know if you guys realized, but there's hardly any actual instruments on unknown—they leaned pretty heavily on beatboxing...

Don't start with me! 😁 That’s why I said the concept kind of swallowed the music. I just don't vibe with the songs on that album—well, except for "Where Is the Line," which is incredible. But I still have a soft spot for the record, mostly just because Patton is on it. 😍

Noah Watson4 said:For sure, it's not for everyone—especially since her newer stuff is such a departure.

I don't know, I think Medull is kind of meh. The concept pretty much swallowed the music whole.

The movie is just perfect. It’s got everything—simple, great acting, really funny... just hits all the right notes. I'm pretty much obsessed.
