One-Take Film Festival in Movies ·
Last year, the jury handed out an award to "musical chair," only to realize later that the whole thing wasn't even shot in a single take. When asked how it even made the cut, Samanovic basically shrugged it off—saying that, technically, you could argue it's a one-take film, but then admitted they probably should have picked something that actually used that technique. 😲
GENIUS—movie posters from Ukraine in Movies ·
Ukrainians use Slavic names that feel pretty familiar to Americans—they mostly describe nature and farming cycles. Since their weather patterns hit a bit later than ours, the names are shifted a bit: May is "травень [travenj]", July is "липень [lipenj]", August is "серпень [serpenj]", and November is "листопад[listopad]".

January: січень [sičenj]
February: лютий [ljutij]
March: березень [berezenj] — from "birch"
April: квітень [kvitenj]
May: травень [travenj]
June: червень [červenj]
July: липень [lipenj]
August: серпень [serpenj]
September: вересень [veresenj]
October: жовтень [žovtenj]
November: листопад[listopad]
December: грудень [grudenj]

In Russian, they just use the international (Latin-based) versions:

январь [janvar']
февраль [febral']
март [mart]
апрель [aprel']
май [maj]
июнь [ijunj]
июль [ijulj]
август [avgust]
сентябрь [sentjabr']
октябрь [oktjabr']
ноябрь [nojabr']
декабрь [dekabr']

And yeah, Carol Long95 makes a good point—aside from "the hooligans," everyone else sounds Russian.
The Mary Magdalene Sisters in Movies ·
Rodney said:Anyone else hate this movie? Yeah, sure—it's all super sad and tragic, those awful nuns are total psychos, and our girls are completely innocent! It was okay, I guess, but didn't hit the mark for me. Could've used some actual depth. Instead, we just sit here gawking at the horrors those creepy nuns inflict on poor souls...

I wasn't a fan either. Obviously, I'm not disputing how shocking the subject matter is—it's horrifying that stuff even happened (especially since the last "laundry" facility didn't close until '96!).

But if the goal is just to warn people that something terrible occurred, you could just make a documentary.

As a feature film, it felt boring, shallow, and totally one-sided. It’s like every single girl is a perfect little victim, while every nun is just a sadistic maniac counting cash and dreaming up new ways to torture sinners...
