Joe Good morning, afternoon, or evening to you all Greetings I am happy to offer a handshake during various celebrations, though I tend to stick to hugs only upon specific request, while I generally steer clear of kisses
I’ve gone up five whole pounds... The drinking was simply excessive... And the cookies, well, I couldn't stop eating them... My entire silhouette has changed...
On this freezing winter night... My back is absolutely killing me... It turns out lifting kettlebells was a mistake... And now my joints are making all sorts of clicking noises...
mistybison said:That is just proof that you spend far too much time on this forum. 🧐😁 Whenever I catch myself dwelling on things like this—or trying to remember who said what or who was arguing with whom—I realize it is time to take a break. After stepping away from the forum for a few days, I find that I truly don't care about some random handle and avatar sitting out there with my "brilliant" 😁 insights. 🤣
That could certainly be a possibility as well... 😬
@Morgan Rodriguez57 — so, I suppose one must always account for those unpredictable, extraordinary circumstances that inevitably arise out of nowhere... 😁
Daniel Kelly57, don't give it another thought... I am merely inquiring about the various possibilities that might exist... 🍿 I wasn't entirely aware that you found such a profound sense of belonging here in this particular corner of the internet... though I suppose it would seem quite fitting, given everything... 🤣
You post, you get bored, you stop posting. It's not rocket science. What's actually gained by wiping the slate clean?🤔
It is simply the desire to do so if the option is available, nothing more than that... I truly cannot fathom why anyone would suggest there are deeper motives at play. I am merely inquiring about the possibility, though if it isn't an option, well, life goes on and I suppose I must accept the circumstances as they are... 😁
The benefit? For instance, one avoids leaving behind digital footprints and profiles that are no longer necessary... I prefer to maintain a sense of order and total control over my online presence, regardless of how anonymous that presence might actually be. 😁

Most boards that claim to allow deletions usually just let you scrub your handle while keeping the actual posts intact—meaning your username just gets swapped out for Deleted user.
To put it bluntly, the whole mess started the very second we all clicked "agree" to the community guidelines😬
Let me be perfectly clear: if they would just delete the user profile entirely, I wouldn't care one bit about what happens to the individual posts...

That is precisely what I was wondering about... I had suspected for some time now that a total purge of both posts and the username probably isn't feasible. I had harbored a bit of hope that an administrator might be able to scrub the username while letting the content remain, as the posts themselves don't bother me...
mistybison said:On USA, you can wipe everything—both posts and profiles—and it remains the largest global forum with hundreds of millions of users...
I don't see why it would be an issue to effectively "deactivate" a username so that the posts remain, even if the profile itself is gone and cannot be searched or used anymore. 🤔 This wouldn't compromise the quality of the discussions. Ultimately, the substance of the conversation should matter more than the specific person who wrote it.
I have been scouring through the account settings, yet I find myself unable to locate any functional option to simply delete my profile... which leads me to wonder if there is actually a mechanism in place for administrators to manually erase a user account (and I am specifically referring to a clean deletion, not resorting to those rather creative workarounds like banning someone or using the "forgot password" loophole to effectively ghost an account)...
Anthony Nguyen81 said:The technology is just outdated... Even if you decide to change your handle, you really ought to go back and edit your own posts specifically, rather than assuming it magically updates everywhere someone else has quoted you, for instance...
And frankly, that kind of behavior isn't exactly well-received around here, so if you're looking for how to shut down an account, maybe take a look at the protocols they have over on Facebook...
Anyway, how have you been lately?
Well, I don't see much point in getting into a heated debate about how things "should" be done...
I am quite familiar with the process on Facebook. You essentially spend a month waiting for them to actually purge your data. It is more a question of sheer persistence than anything else...😁
😍 To me, it all feels like a mere technicality. As far as their attitude toward programming goes, they honestly don't seem any different from a group of people who are way, way younger...😁
Gregory Smith21 said:Life moves in certain cycles, and after various shifts in my circumstances... I suppose I have returned to the forum as of October 2023.
One cannot simply sit down to write code as if one were merely tapping away at a keyboard for mere amusement, such is not how it works...🤣
Until then, whether anyone is actually here or not remains to be seen...🙂
Gregory Smith21 said:I have exactly thirteen days left of posting on this forum before I disappear, and then we can catch up again in four years... assuming the same crowd is still hanging around here... 🤣
@Chloe Cooper10. Where exactly is your header, and why is there an int at the end of the function?
One simply cannot write programs this way, and frankly, I think it would be prudent to actually compile the thing if you intend to run it, wouldn't you agree?...
If it remains unclear to you why the program crashes, you should attempt to run it through a debugger and perform an analysis, though you must ensure you compile it with the -g flag so the source code remains accessible...
Good grief, where on earth are you heading off to for four years?... 🤔
I wouldn't say I'm particularly drawn to developing business applications, nor is that really where my focus lies... I find myself much more inclined toward things closer to the hardware, such as kernel development, writing drivers, bare metal programming, or working directly with microcontrollers...
If one were to focus on business applications, it usually involves higher-level programming languages, whereas I require lower-level ones so that I might actually manipulate the hardware itself...
Furthermore, my true passion lies in robotics and machine programming, which necessitates far greater access to hardware resources—an objective that, once again, is best achieved through low-level programming languages...
And what do you occupy yourself with during your free time? 🍿
👍 Well, there you have it; you've finally phrased it in a way that anyone can actually understand... 😁
As for my own free time, I play video games, tend to my pets, hit the gym, watch various series and movies, do a bit of sketching, and I am currently working on my PhD... 🙂
Gregory Smith21 said:I'm a student. Aside from that, I spend my time diving into electronics, hitting the wrestling mats, and working on street workout routines.
MIT? 🙂 If you actually intend to find yourself working in enterprise software development one day, you’re going to need more than just code... you’ll need an actual grasp of business processes. Or, at the very least, the ability to communicate effectively with a client regarding their specific requirements and needs...
Mianac, I’ve honestly forgotten so much of it all... 🕺 I used to have bookkeeping down to a science once upon a time.
Back in high school, my math teachers were constantly being swapped out for substitutes, and they were a real mixed bag, to say the least... so I ended up teaching myself most of the curriculum. Then, during my university years, our own Secretary of Education was actually lecturing one of my classes—it was an absolute nightmare, she really struggled to convey any actual knowledge 🕺 Consequently, I never truly developed a passion for mathematics. It isn't that I struggle with the act of learning itself, but there just isn't this innate, deep-seated love for the subject embedded in my soul xD It was through other coursework during college that I finally found an affinity for statistics and various quantitative methods; I taught myself a great deal on my own, which eventually led me toward the fields of data mining and artificial intelligence. Along the way, I had to pick up some programming skills as well, so I know my way around a bit, though certainly not with the granular depth that the guys here possess, since that isn't really my primary focus. The same applies to my mathematical background.
Gregory Smith21, are you still buried in your studies or have you actually entered the workforce yet? I find myself wondering what else occupies your time... beyond the endless cycles of mathematics and programming... 🍿
Chloe Cooper10 said:No, and regarding that guy at Wikj, he would probably spend his entire afternoon digging through an Excel spreadsheet just to find a refund...🤣 E: I already touched upon this when I mentioned that whole Facebook nonsense earlier...😁
You clearly don't get it. A true expert, if you actually bother to ask, possesses the ability to explain things in a way that is completely stripped down and simple... They can converse with a child or a seasoned veteran in the field with equal ease. They can draw a diagram if necessary. They can reduce complex concepts down to nothing more than apples and oranges...
