Hormonal imbalance or something else? in Health ·
Amy Rogers2 said:Don't mention it. Just hang in there while your hormones settle down—once they stabilize, the weight will start dropping, provided you get some movement in. Walking is great, but aim for more than 30 minutes at a pace that actually gets your heart rate up. Honestly, if I managed to drop over 40 pounds while juggling four different hormone treatments, you can definitely do this too. Don't sweat it, 👍

Honestly, reading this gives me so much hope.
See, I’ve already overhauled my whole diet. I don't even eat that much, yet the weight just keeps creeping up on me regardless. It feels like everyone around me is constantly pointing fingers, telling me it’s all because of some crazy hormonal imbalance.
But now it’s finally clicking for me—there's one more thing I need to fix, and that's my physical activity level. Because let's be real, even if my hormones are acting out, that's no excuse for me to just let myself go and get huge.

Anyway, thanks so much for the pep talk, Amy Rogers2. 🙂

Angela Wright said:If you’ve only got one ovary left, it should still be handling all your hormonal heavy lifting. Honestly, I suspect your thyroid might actually be the real culprit here.

I mean, it’s totally possible they’re linked, because like I mentioned before, I’ve been battling thyroid issues for four whole years now. And honestly, even with my previous surgeries, my weight stayed pretty much the same—maybe a pound or two up, a pound or two down, nothing crazy. But now? I’ve definitely put on at least 10 or 15 pounds.

Anyway, I guess I'll just have to wait until my next appointment with the endocrinologist to see what the doctor actually has to say about all this.

Thanks for the input, regardless.

I’ve dealt with my own hormonal mess—I put on quite a few pounds until things finally leveled out, and then I managed to slim down once I dialed in my diet and started working out.

Man, this is seriously helpful info. Thanks!

So, last summer I got hit with this abdominal tumor diagnosis, which turned out to be a massive fibroid that had basically taken over my uterus and one of my ovaries. Long story short, they had to go in and surgically remove the fibroid along with my uterus and one of my ovaries.

Then, about a month or two after the surgery, the weight started piling on.
I haven’t even changed my diet—I’m eating the same stuff as always—but I’ve definitely put on like 10 to 20 pounds.
And honestly, nothing seems to touch it, not even my existing thyroid issues. I've been dealing with hyperthyroidism for four years now, and right now I'm actually in talks with my endocrinologist about trying radioactive iodine therapy to get things under control.

Is it possible that the surgery caused some kind of massive hormonal imbalance, or what is even happening here...?
I keep pointing this out to my endocrinologist, like, "Hey, look, I'm living with only one ovary," since they left that one in there specifically so it could handle my hormone production. But from what I can gather, my doctor thinks my thyroid levels have absolutely nothing to do with those other hormones.

Anyway, to make a long story short, does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? 😕
Jeremy Lee3 said:I don't know, honestly, they just told me to go see Dr. Poropat and I’m actually pretty happy with how it went.

First thing she did was tell me I needed to go get an ultrasound 😁

I mean, it probably just comes down to luck and who you happen to run into, right? Clearly, I didn't have any luck at first.
But hey, I'm satisfied now.
Jeremy Lee3 said:Apparently, Mayo Clinic has the best nuclear medicine department in the whole city.

Oh, absolutely. They’ve been looking after me since 2003, though they didn't even bother doing my first specialist ultrasound until last September! But honestly? They’re top-tier. That’s exactly why I finally made the switch over to Vuk Vrhovac.
Honestly, I’d tell you to just go with Vuk Vrhovac. I’ve been getting treated there since last fall and, man, I am seriously happy with how they handle everything—both the way they treat you and the actual care they provide. It’s legit. I’ll shoot you the number in a PM.

Honestly, you’re so clueless about this that I don't even see the point in wasting my breath talking to you anymore. It's just a dead end.

And man, I really want to see the people who think they can just go out and take matters into their own hands by cutting their wrists. Like, seriously? You honestly think that's going to solve anything? 🙄

slylynx68 said:Honestly, those lowlifes over at the hospital have zero moral compass, I swear. Like, seriously, they didn't even bother to provide a decent snack after I gave blood! Who’s actually the immoral person here, huh? Because it definitely isn't me.

Man, you really have no clue what you're talking about, do you? Seriously, where do you even get your info from? You're totally out of the loop on this one.
Look, you’re barking up the completely wrong tree here. The people showing up at a blood drive to actually pull the needles and collect the bags? Those are the folks from the American Red Cross. They aren't there to play party planner, and they have absolutely zero involvement in organizing some "thank you lunch" or whatever that food situation you're whining about is supposed to be called. So, honestly, why are you aiming all that misplaced rage at the wrong people? You're basically yelling at the paramedics because the catering truck showed up late, you know? It's just totally misplaced.

slylynx68 said:Look, I’m sitting in a high-level executive chair at one of those massive corporations—you know, the kind where my decisions basically dictate what someone else is going to be doing for the next decade? It’s heavy stuff. I’m talking about deciding the fates of entire families here. And yet, people act like it’s no big deal when I just ignore some calls for organized blood drives or whatever. Like, yeah, it’s a tiny thing, sure, but you get what I mean, right? Just a little detail in the grand scheme of things. 😉

It’s honestly pathetic how we’re running out of blood donors just because those soulless corporate hacks sitting in the corner offices don't give a damn about anything but their own bottom line. I mean, seriously, what kind of logic is that? People either can't find the time to get down to an American Red Cross center, or—get this—the very same executives who claim to care about "company culture" are the ones blocking blood drives from even happening at the office! How does that even make sense? You’ve got people wanting to step up and help, but then you've got these high-and-mighty suits making it impossible to actually do anything useful. It’s absolute madness, isn't it?

Look, like I already said, there are still plenty of smart, decent people out there. That’s exactly why I’m not losing any sleep over all this stuff you're posting on the forums, seriously.

slylynx68 said:I’m officially done donating blood. My new life mission? Making sure none of my friends ever step foot in a clinic to do the same.
It’s all because of that damn reimbursement I never got from my health insurance provider. Seriously, shame on you guys, but karma is a real thing.

So far, I’ve probably cost you about 30 doses by talking my buddies out of going.

What an absolutely brilliant way to look at things. 👍
Don't go thinking you "deprived" anyone of anything, though, because there are still plenty of smart, decent people out there who actually know how to think for themselves.

And honestly, those friends of yours you managed to talk out of donating? They sound like real pillars of morality right there. I mean, you are who you hang out with, right? Is that even a question?
Bravo. 🙄
