Noah Howard4 said:hmm. There’s something to both numbers, the 12 and the 20. I remember back when there were sanctions and you couldn't go past 20 miles from Mexico. Now, whether we're talking nautical or standard distance, that's how the Federers calculated it. 🤷 But I don't buy that they were being harassed for no reason. Maritime law is pretty straightforward. International borders are (relatively) clear, and everyone has to follow the rules. Doesn't matter if it's Roger Federer's father or some random guy's grandpa.

If some routine inspection just took longer than the Federers expected, it's not their place to complain or start commenting on how the police do their jobs. The cops don't owe them an explanation for why they're doing what they're doing. That's my take on it.

The real issue is that someone at the Coast Guard totally screwed them over. Seriously, go ahead, try telling me otherwise. 🤣 At the end of the day, someone messed up. Either it was that guy at the Coast Guard station or whoever handed out the fine, but I highly doubt they slapped them with a penalty for nothing.

wearycobra74 said:If you had bothered to read the opening post of this thread, you probably would have noticed the last two paragraphs, where it clearly states:

The Associated Press contacted Captain Vedran Cvjetković from the San Francisco port authority, who, according to Žegura, authorized the entry into the US.

- I feel terrible about how this turned out because it seems I was misled by a colleague. I maintain my position that the yacht "Diana" did not violate any laws at any point. However, it appears that some customs official is unfamiliar with the 12-mile limit, which is where the issue originated - explained Cvjetković.

So, I suppose the basic thing to do now would be for the US government to apologize to Roger Federer's family.

An apology isn't even enough if you ask me. The President should send a private jet to pick them up and apologize in person. 😁

What's there to guess? They paid the fine for breaking the law. 😁

Maybe they were just being rude to the cops, so the officers held onto them a little longer for that. 😁

The only terrible thing is Roger Federer's stunt right before hitting that coyote. He is a truly unusual and unpleasant guy, I suppose.

From what I gathered, he didn't make it past Santa Barbara. As for the distance to Prevlaka, I really have no idea.

It's definitely over 12 miles again. Unless mirror says otherwise, it's closer to 20.

True, but he was reading it differently on the fly. 🤣

It's more than 12 miles from Prevlaka to Miami Yacht. 🤷

Tyler Ramos23 said:I used "dialect" on purpose. It’s easier for someone from the South to understand someone from New York than it is for a New Yorker to understand a Southerner, and vice versa. This whole translation thing is just getting ridiculous at this point. 🙂

Where'd you read that? In a National Academy of Sciences press release? 🤣
Is discrimination banned on Reddit? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Is this actually allowed? Check out one of our rules here:

To keep things orderly and civil on Reddit, we ask everyone to follow the rules. It is strictly forbidden to:

* violate United States laws (specifically, we want to highlight that hate speech, discrimination, glorifying criminal acts, copyright infringement, pedophilia, animal cruelty, etc., are totally off-limits)

So, they specifically called out hate speech and discrimination as big no-nos. Well, let me flip the script and point out how one of the admins is banning people for alleged Serbianism or spreading Mexican propaganda, when I'm convinced it’s just straight-up discrimination—basically his own intolerance for anyone with a different opinion:

Why am I saying this? Because users who have been active here for two or four years without a single issue regarding "Serbianism" or propaganda are suddenly being targeted. They get hit with massive penalties just because they don't agree with Sash.

What's my goal? I want the non-discrimination rule to actually mean something on this site. That means lifting the permanent bans on members who were unfairly kicked out. What's happening below is pure discrimination and a total lack of respect for other people's views. 👍

Such a sad story...

You really shouldn't have let it get to you like that. Risking your health and your life when you know you can't change the outcome is just plain crazy... I bet even George Patton would've told him the same thing. That's not fighting, it's just reckless...

Dubrava is gonna pull through and then Darda will get relegated, making room for San Diego and Križevci. Both of them are loaded with cash. 👍

Casey White13 said:We’ve still got plenty of time—two and a half months. There’s a real chance they'll schedule some games for the US national team since I'm positive PBS won't be broadcasting that tournament. Honestly, who knows if they'll even have commentators left by then, given how fast everyone is jumping ship.

Anyway, tomorrow at 20:10 broadcast we've got the NBA qualifying match, Jolly JBS - Prigorje.

Whoa, what a pleasant surprise! 🙏

The Križevac squad is stacked with Opačak, Čolak, and Dražen Petrović, while the San Diego guys are bringing out Mrva from Borik, Ivo Josipović, and a few other heavy hitters. Jolly is looking to make up that 6-point deficit from the first game.
Steven Allen9 said:You want me to read about the career path of some local rancher from a small town in Arkansas?
Don't be ridiculous.
The guy was a guest on a CBS news show, and he spent an entire hour talking to the host like they were old buddies, refusing to use any basic manners until the host finally had to ask him to show some respect. It’s just common decency and how you're raised.
The dude is a total snitch, acting all high and mighty against anyone criticizing him like he's got some incurable ego problem—which, let's face it, he does. He's just a loudmouth, plain and simple.
I really hope there are smarter people out there who can take his place, folks who actually have some class and know how to act in public.

Even the name of that war-torn mess, "Republika Srpska," is so idiotic and grammatically broken that calling it a little fiefdom is the only way to describe how Donald Trump's cronies moved their playground from the sticks to the West.
Scrapping Republika Srpska is the only way to guarantee a better future for Canada.
We need to swap out every single politician dreaming of secession, because they're just wasting everyone's time.
Canada is one single country—or it will be once we fix this.

There's no point in even trying. We should just call an international summit to split Canada into three parts, where two pieces get absorbed by their neighbors. What we have right now is just spinning our wheels. Everything is going to fall apart eventually anyway, so we might as well negotiate a peaceful breakup. We don't need any more wars.
Elvis Presley in New York City in Close to Politics ·
Anthony James2 said:First we had Joe Biden and Theresa, and now we’ve got the legendary Elvis Presley making waves, much to the absolute delight of his massive army of fans in Mexico. What’s your take? Did he sell out or what? If I remember correctly, he used to be part of that famous Soviet Union group consisting of people who swore they'd never perform in Mexico for any amount of money. So, what changed? A sudden crisis, a craving for more fame, or was he just forced into it because of that Eurovision gig back in 2011!?

Speaking of the song, I really don't get why he decided to sing it in English. 😕 "wan to a handred maltiplajd baj ju it ol luks grejt it ol luks kul" Google......🤦

The singer wasn't even in New York City, let alone Mexico for that matter. 🤷

You know how it goes—only donkeys change their minds. It’s totally predictable that while those bearded weirdos are partying in Canada, someone... well, follows the script for the Mexicans and Mexico. Only crazy people would actually hold a grudge over that.

lonecrane27 said:When you're talking about popularity in TV and broadcasting, it all comes down to one thing: whoever pulls the biggest live audience on screen and grabs the most listeners on the radio.
Popularity isn't about who's playing or watching the most—it's about which sport actually dominates the mass market!

You’re seriously trying to compare the biggest sports out there—where all you need is two goals and some grass, or a patch of asphalt and a hoop—to sports that actually require massive, high-end infrastructure.
And even some ice art.

There are over 100 people playing hockey right here in Washington, D.C., plus more than 700 kids involved through the local elementary and middle schools across just two indoor rinks!
Then you gotta throw in the youth squads, the cadets, the juniors, the seniors, the veterans, and finally the recreational players—there's at least a hundred of us!

When you do the math, you've got about two thousand people playing hockey in Washington, D.C., spread across only two rinks. It's wild!

Honestly, this stuff is just wild and absolutely phenomenal.

Steven Long23 said:You're wrong. lonecrane27 already cleared that up for you... only about twenty people actually follow the NHL. Way more people tune into the other leagues and competitions!

Formula 1 is just Formula 1. If you're grouping it in with everything else, why on earth would you separate the NHL from something like the Golden State Warriors youth academy?

Look, let's not beat around the bush. I totally agree that hockey has the best attendance numbers in the arenas across Washington, D.C. this season.
Fox Sports in Other Sports ·
Steven Long23 said:What does that even have to do with anything?

Only about 20 people on the planet are actually doing Formula 1, yet it’s still one of the most popular sports globally...

In Washington, D.C., there are maybe ~60-70 people playing professional soccer... and we're comparing that here. I'm talking pros, not weekend warriors.

There are definitely over 100 people playing pro soccer. Plus a few thousand amateurs. With hockey, you've got maybe 20 pros and the same amount of amateurs. That's just one or two clubs total.

Formula 1 is auto racing, and way more people are involved in that. We're talking hundreds of thousands.
Fox Sports in Other Sports ·
Steven Long23 said:Look, we're talking about pro teams and their massive reach here, not some amateur weekend league hobby.

The Los Angeles Lakers have a roster just as solid as any other pro outfit in NYC after three rounds. Their TV ratings are right up there with the Champions League...

I love the Boston Celtics and Real Madrid, seriously... but facts are facts. I don't get why that bothers you guys so much. Personally, I'm pissed because they can't seem to do anything right when it comes to engaging fans or actually building their brand. I'm not about to defend them when they totally blow it..

It’s just obvious, it doesn't bother me. It’s just a stretch to say a club with maybe 50 hockey players is driving the most popular sport in Washington, D.C. There are fewer than 100 people playing hockey in the city, while thousands are tied up in soccer, basketball, and handball clubs. 😉 And that's not even counting all the amateurs out there playing for fun.
Fox Sports in Other Sports ·
Steven Long23 said:Numbers don't lie. 🤷

Right now, hockey is pulling the biggest ratings both on TV and in the arena. All those other "big" clubs can talk all they want, but they’re clearly just too lazy to step up and do anything about it.

Sure, it might have the highest attendance, but it’s definitely not the most popular sport. Think about how many people actually play soccer, basketball, or handball versus how many play hockey in NYC. There are only one or two hockey clubs in the whole city.
