I know I’m probably shouting into the void here, but there’s no harm in asking, right? 🙄
So, I sent my boyfriend to drop off a package for me—something I usually handle myself—and I specifically told him to send it via certified mail. However, the woman working at the local Post Office (the one over on Main Street! 😠) basically "convinced" him that sending it standard would be just fine. She told him it would get to the destination regardless, and he’d save a fortune on shipping fees. Being the pushover he is, he fell for it—and naturally, the package never actually reached the girl 😢 (he didn't think anything was wrong until she started blowing up his phone asking where it was; when I asked him for the tracking receipt so I could scan it once I got back to Chicago, he admitted he didn't have any paperwork because that lady insisted standard shipping was the way to go 🙂).
Is there any actual chance this thing might still show up, even though it’s been over two weeks? I’m going to have to refund the money to the girl who paid me, but I’d really love for her to actually receive those shoes 🙏

Thanks in advance!
I’m pretty sure they stay open until 1 PM, 😉 I know for a fact they're open, but honestly, I can't remember if they close at 1 or 3 PM.👍

Sorry if this has already been asked... ugh, so today I sent my mom over to the USPS because I couldn't make it myself to drop off a package, and they actually charged her $1.75 for packaging. I thought I had done everything right—I wrapped it up nicely in heavy-duty brown shipping paper and secured it with thick brown tape—but apparently, under these "new rules," they insisted she had to have it bound with twine, and they charge $1.75 just for that string. Now that I think about it—and honestly, I’m feeling a bit foolish for not realizing this sooner—I remember having to pay an extra $1.75 a few times when I received packages, which I assume was this same ridiculous packaging fee.
Does anyone know if I can just tie everything up with twine myself at home so I don't get hit with those extra $1.75? It’s just so incredibly awkward when someone else covers the shipping costs, only for them to be forced to hand over even more $1.75 just for some string...
You can absolutely wrap the package with twine at home, and the post office won't charge you for packaging then. As for the delivery fee they charge to bring the package right to your door $1.75, in my opinion, that's nothing short of highway robbery—it has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not you had enough twine 😉

I want to pack them so they don't get damaged.
I have plenty of those protective
foam inserts and bubble wrap,
but I just don't have any small boxes lying around.
Seriously, please help—I have no idea how I should package this.
Just toss them into any box you can find—honestly, it could even be a massive one since shipping costs are calculated by weight rather than the actual size of the box—and then just wrap everything up in different layers of padding. As for the glasses themselves, wrap them in some fabric first and then use that bubble wrap to make sure they stay safe. Hopefully, that helps!👍

Of course I have to send it this week—I have to pay for the package $1.75 right when the mail carrier shows up at my door. That’s just how things work here in Chicago; I know it’s not quite like back home in a sleepy coastal town where the mailman drops off a parcel, stays for a quick chat, and everyone's happy, but that's the reality of living in a big city like this.😍

It’s International Red Cross Week. 👎
Nobody actually said they were getting robbed, 😲 I specifically pointed out that I'm not sitting here crying over a few bucks (especially when there are people facing much harder times than I am), but rather, it's just absurd that I HAVE TO 😂 participate in charity drives, help organize humanitarian events, or push young people to get involved in volunteering—all of which I do happily on my own terms 🙂 but I absolutely loathe it when it becomes a mandatory obligation 😠 (I can't quite put my finger on why, but it just turns me off completely). Sorry for the tangent.
So, it’s Red Cross Week, though I honestly can't wrap my head around the whole point of it—not that I’m about to sit here and start weeping over $0.52, mind you—but it feels incredibly stupid that this is presented as something I HAVE to do, rather than an actual choice. If someone asked me if I wanted to donate, sure, I'd consider it, but I just don't get these "commands" they try to issue; I have no idea what they think they're accomplishing. Then there's the whole issue where $1.75 when a package shows up at your house (without any bill or anything), the USPS basically steals from wherever they please 👎
Look, I’m not saying people shouldn't have to pay—of course they should—but shouldn't there be a courtesy heads-up if you're specifically looking to buy an envelope? I mean, isn't the local Post Office pretty much the only place you can grab these things reliably? (Though, let's be honest, they charge a premium for it.) 🙄 My wife was actually kind enough to give me a fair warning; she told me straight up that the envelope was going to run me about 75 cents and asked if I wanted to just pick one up there or try to find one somewhere else first. So, in my book, it's just common sense to give a little notice 🤷
She went ahead and charged you about $1.25. 😉 It’s just how they operate—they don't bother sending a notification or giving you a heads-up so you can actually decide if you want to authorize the payment; they just go ahead and pull the money from your account ☕
.
I was wondering if anyone could walk me through how to actually embed a video into a post? I really hope I haven't completely missed the mark and posted this in the wrong section—my apologies if I have! Thanks! 🙂
Angela Flores76 said:It really depends on what you were shipping—because, strictly speaking, they aren't allowed to have perfumes or any kind of liquids in the mail, so they actually have every right to ask questions. 😉
I honestly had no clue, so thanks for the heads-up. You really can encounter just about anything when dealing with the USPS—it's unpredictable like that. If someone had just approached me with a bit of politeness, I wouldn't have thought twice about answering... but she was so incredibly condescending, acting like she held some high-ranking federal position or something. It immediately made me wonder if she even had the authority to be interrogating me like that in the first place. 🙂
Chloe Moore65 said:The price depends entirely on weight—so honestly, if you have stuff weighing more than 10-12 ounces, you’re better off sending it as a package. It usually ends up costing you around 13-$4.75
Thanks for the heads-up. I was actually scratching my head about this the other day—it was my first time shipping something in a full box instead of a padded envelope, and somehow, the box ended up being cheaper than the envelope 😲 I was genuinely floored by it. It feels totally counterintuitive, right? Like, how does a massive box cost less than a tiny little mailer containing the exact same item? It defies all logic! But hey, if the folks at the USPS have decided that weight is the only metric that matters, then I guess I'll just take the win and stop overthinking it. heheh 🙂
The staff at the local USPS branch are just incredibly rude—honestly, it’s exhausting. No matter what you walk in with, it’s somehow never "good enough" for them. Whether I’m just dropping off a simple bubble mailer or a massive parcel, they always have some unsolicited lecture ready to go. If it's an envelope, suddenly they’re telling me, "You can't use this," or "You really should be sending this as certified mail instead." But the absolute peak of their audacity? A woman behind the counter actually had the nerve to ask me exactly what was inside my bubble mailer. Like, excuse me? What business is it of yours? 😲 😕 Has anyone else dealt with this kind of overstepping? 🤷 And while we're on the subject of how much these people charge—it’s almost never just a flat $12--$4.25; it’s virtually always more than $6.00 whenever I'm trying to send something in one of those bubble envelopes.
