In the third one, he’s going head-to-head with that arms dealer—you know, the ex-cop type.
That whole segment is my favorite part, mostly because the comedy hits its peak right when Leo Getz is being his usual self,
and honestly, the duo of Gibson and Glover? They’re still definitely not too old for this shit.
If you look at the era, it stands right up there with Die Hard as one of the absolute best.

I mean, look—the Soviets took massive casualties over there. It wasn't some minor skirmish.
And that whole thing about them lacking rifles? That was actually true—they just didn't have enough gear for everyone at first, though they eventually managed to get back on their feet later on.

This movie is just... it's pathetic, really. It's unrealistic, propaganda-heavy junk at its absolute worst. They had a solid concept, but they completely butchered it because they couldn't resist the urge to lecture the audience with moralizing nonsense and turning one of the most brutal, fascinating battles of WWII into some mindless action spectacle.

In short, this garbage doesn't have much more connection to the actual battle than just using the right names for places, people, and the timeframe. It's just a high-budget action flick—and a pretty bad one at that.

Instead of making up their own fever dreams, they should have just read up on what happened near Stalingrad and filmed that. The propaganda in the film isn't even that heavy; in reality, things were probably much worse.
I wouldn't know what else to throw into the mix if the story stays focused strictly on snipers.
To make it about something bigger, you'd have to build the plot around an entirely different foundation.

Solid movie—honestly, maybe one of the best depictions of WW2 on the Eastern Front out there.
Definitely the best thing Jude Law has ever done. It’s hard to see him top this kind of performance anytime soon.
And Ed Harris? Just classic, great work as usual.

I didn't think the movie was actually that bad.
It gives you a decent look at life in the city—though I have to disagree with Jacob Alvarez there; it isn't some overly optimistic vision of urban living.
If anything, it feels a bit heavy, maybe even a little too expensive for the average person trying to make it.
Honestly, I bet Anthony Bourdain would’ve actually dug it.😁

I really don't see the point in trying to compare things that just aren't on the same level—apples to oranges, you know?
Take something like Seinfeld as a series, or maybe Mr. Bean when you look at it as a movie.
A film just doesn't have the runtime to pull off that kind of depth.
Then again, I’ve always felt Star Trek works better as a movie format.
So yeah, they're just two different beasts entirely.

There are plenty of solid movies out there,
but honestly, The Fifth Element feels like—if it isn't my absolute favorite—it's definitely right up there with the best sci-fi ever made.
The imagery just sticks with you.
Everything about the world-building works—from those massive, vertical megacities where people live stacked high in skyscrapers,
with that perpetual smog clinging to the streets below, to the way they get around using those hovering car-shaped pods and flying boats,
and even the weird little domestic details, like living rooms with button-operated boat beds or having a shower on a completely different floor,
not to mention the whole concept of space tourism and those multi-purpose gadgets that work at the touch of a button...
It’s just great stuff.
Hard to top this one, even for someone like Luc Besson.🙂

To Bonfire movie? It’s in a league of its own,
I haven't seen anything quite like it.
A lot of films try to tackle similar themes,
for instance, you could say Carlito's Way and Scarface share some DNA, but this one—I honestly don't know what I'd even compare it to.

I went with Carlito's Way, though honestly, if The Bonfire of the Vanities had been on the list, I could have easily swung that way too.
It’s not really an "either-or" situation—you can't just swap one for the other. Movies are different beasts entirely.
