Best protein powders for muscle gain? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
lonebadger0 said:So how exactly do you expect someone who’s been training for years and actually reached a high level of fitness to keep making gains just by eating "regular" food?
Look, an athlete at that level needs massive amounts of protein, carbs, vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, all that stuff... If they tried to hit those numbers through whole foods alone, their digestion would be absolutely trashed, and honestly, they probably couldn't even physically stomach that much volume. Even if someone had a stomach of steel and managed to eat it all, they wouldn't be able to process it efficiently. You basically can't do it without supplements.
Just look at any nutrition chart to see the macros in standard foods. A well-trained person needs about 3 grams of protein per kilo of body weight, and don't even get me started on the carbs... It’s just mathematically impossible to get enough through regular meals, which is why people use supplements—to fill those gaps that real food just can't cover.

I was watching some Champions League coverage the other day and Diego Forlan was talking about his daily diet: a huge breakfast, a solid lunch with meat or fish, and then a light dinner like a salad.

Truth is, he isn't just some well-trained person—he's a top-tier pro athlete😁

Anyone know of any good beginner books out there? Like, something that actually breaks down gymnastics moves and stuff?

I'm 24, just recently started getting serious about training, but man, my flexibility is absolute garbage (just how I was built, I guess). I'd love some solid guidance on stretching, mobility, and general drills.

I'm with the first guy on this—hitting the gym can get pretty boring and isn't really all that effective on its own (unless you're just looking for a muscle pump). I'm hoping to mix some home gymnastics into my routine.

Also, if anyone has recs for gear I should buy, let me know. I'm trying to set up a little home gym setup. I live in a small town and don't really have the option to join any organized programs for older guys.

thanks

EDIT: Just realized this is under sports. Looking at the other threads here, maybe the mod should move this over to "recreation."

Hey, I'm looking for some recommendations on decent, high-quality whey protein. Honestly, I’m pretty clueless about this stuff.

I want to grab a bigger tub—basically the largest size available—so I don't have to deal with buying more for a while.

From what I've gathered, most people just toss some protein into their breakfast or shake it up right after a workout.

But what about rest days? Do you still take it even when you aren't hitting the gym?

Also, how much am I actually supposed to be taking if I'm sitting at about 165 lbs?

Thanks

I think you guys missed the point here—the guy actually needs help designing a poster, not a lecture.😁

There’s always good music out there if you actually bother to look for it. It’s not all just over-compressed, over-produced garbage... unless I guess MTV is basically your entire worldview.😁

Yeah, perfect for two people.

Anyway, if you're looking at "keyboards," you can basically split them into digital ones, stage pianos, electric organs like a Hammond, analog synths, digital synths, and arrangers. There might be some other niche stuff out there, but those are the big players.

And drums? You've got your choice between electric and acoustic.

Honestly, I'm right there with you on this. I've always had a massive soft spot for collecting vinyl and posters.😳

mellowmaker7 said:man, have you seen how much you can squeeze out of a steakhouse menu? A billion combos, a million flavors. It’s endless.

I mean, sure, any serious instrument basically has infinite possibilities. You could spend your whole life learning drums or guitar and still never master everything they can do.

What I'm getting at is, if he starts hunting down those weird, non-standard instruments, he's gonna need a poster the size of a football field just to fit them all in. There are way too many of them.

Besides, I think he was just looking for the stuff you actually hear in modern pop and rock, not some niche alternative sounds.

Look, at the end of the day, most music is built on pretty much the same foundation. You can't reinvent the wheel, no matter how hard you try. Beyond the usual suspects—guitar, bass, drums, keys, synths—you’ve got your saxes, horns, strings, woodwinds, whatever. And yeah, even if those extra layers are mostly just running through a Roland or a Yamaha, any modern performer worth their salt sounds way better backed by a small or mid-sized orchestra. You see it all the time on NPR pop specials at Carnegie Hall, or even when someone like Britney Spears hits the big stages and brings out a full string section, five trumpet players, and a whole brass ensemble.

Maybe try surprising your professor by throwing in some actual classical instruments alongside the modern gear. Then maybe they'll think you actually get what music is about.😁

Now, if you're looking for me to pull a miracle out of thin air—like making that meat pie up there—I'm definitely not your guy.
So, this happened to me for the first time last night. I'm 24. Basically, I straight up pissed the bed 😱. First, I was in this weird half-awake state with my ears just absolutely pounding, and then after maybe 10 or 20 seconds, total paralysis hit. It lasted about half a minute. The only thing crossing my mind was grabbing my phone from behind my back and dialing 911 🤣 🤣, but I couldn't even twitch. Once it passed, I had no clue what just happened. I just gripped my phone and laid there for maybe two hours because I was too terrified to even try closing my eyes again. Man, I really hope this isn't a recurring thing 🙂
.
By the way, I was sleeping with headphones on, which isn't really my usual thing—just some low-volume jazz playing. Sometime during the night, I woke up halfway and pulled them off my ears, and shortly after that, this whole nightmare started 😁
.
Has this happened to any of you guys before? Was it less terrifying when it happened again, and were you actually aware of what was going on while it was happening?

Oh, and for the record, I didn't even dream.
