I think the best part of the movie is really just the dynamic between Young and Old. It’s kind of like seeing Rocky in his later years—this cynical, tragic figure who’s lost pretty much everything. His wife, his friends, his trainer... even his own son doesn't really know him. Honestly, I guess Stallone is what carries this whole franchise. It all kind of went downhill after the fourth one anyway.
I’m a huge fan of this franchise—especially those first three movies—but honestly, this one is kind of garbage. It's just way too much melodrama and cliché. I guess it feels pretty predictable, boring, and totally unnecessary. First, Ivan Drago was supposed to be Ukrainian, and then suddenly he's just some Russian guy.
I actually feel the exact opposite! I thought Pacific Rim was such a blast and a really pleasant surprise, but I just can't stand Transformers. I'll definitely be checking out the sequel.
I guess almost every Hitchcock movie touches on this deep philosophy about life versus death. It seems like wherever there’s a crime, there's always that underlying question of mortality right there with it.
8 1/2 is a pretty heavy Fellini flick. I’ve watched my fair share of European art house movies, so I guess I’m still not entirely sure if I totally get this one. You've got more poetic Fellini films to check out... Amarcord... La Strada... Nights of Cabiria... Dolac Vita... Don't give up on him just yet by thinking, "Man, I'm just not feeling the Italian filmography," because there is so much incredible stuff to dive into.
The Californians just aren't organized at all, it's pretty obvious. They aren't even on the same level as what we saw in Canada or the US back in '91.
In theory, if they actually got their act together—like, I guess, closing off the border toward Spain, having their own police force and military, and setting things up so special forces couldn't just swoop into Barcelona out of nowhere...
Then what would Washington do? Would there be a military intervention? Do you really think the federal government would react like Mexico City did in '91? And honestly, would the nationalists from the heartland go to war to defend the whole country, or just to grab parts of California for themselves?
