In fact, right now, I’m experiencing this sensation of being unable to catch my breath even while just sitting still. Interestingly, when I went out for a 15-minute run yesterday—taking a few breaks, of course—I didn't feel any shortness of breath at all, which makes this whole thing quite confusing. I've been reading up on potential causes online, and frankly, it triggered a bit of a panic attack. I have some mild breathlessness, my nose and hands are tingling, and there's this lingering sense of dread... though since I think I know what's happening, I'm trying not to let it consume me too much. I have consulted several doctors, but they haven't found anything unusual; they've listened to my lungs and everything seems fine. I haven't undergone spirometry yet, but for those of you with experience, does the fact that I can hold my breath for two minutes signify anything? Does it mean my lung capacity is healthy? For comparison, my wife doesn't suffer from breathlessness at all, yet she can't hold her breath for more than a minute. Thank you in advance; any insight or help would be greatly appreciated!
To provide a little more context: it isn't exactly "shortness of breath" in the traditional sense. Rather, every so often—it's almost non-existent today—I get this feeling that the air I inhale isn't sufficient, forcing me to take a deep, full breath to compensate. Once I do that, I feel fine for a while. Is it possible that this is merely a result of being overworked or perhaps stress finally getting the better of me?

To my fellow members, I frequently experience shortness of breath, but it doesn't seem to be tied to physical exertion. In fact, right now, I feel winded even while just sitting still—that unsettling sensation where you feel like you simply can't get enough air. Curiously, when I went out for a fifteen-minute run yesterday (with a few brief breaks), I didn't feel any breathlessness at all. It’s quite baffling to me. I’ve been doing some reading on the subject, which has unfortunately triggered a bit of a panic attack; I have this mild shortness of breath, some tingling in my nose and hands, and just a general sense of dread 😢 ...though I know what's happening, so I'm trying not to let it consume me too much. I have consulted various doctors, but they haven't found anything wrong; they've listened to my lungs repeatedly, yet everything seems normal. I haven't undergone spirometry testing yet, but for those of you with experience, does the fact that I can hold my breath for two minutes signify anything? Does it suggest my lung capacity is healthy? For comparison, my wife experiences no shortness of breath, yet she can't hold her breath for more than a minute. Thank you in advance; any insight or help would be greatly appreciated!
The last time I donated blood was back in 2005 (in Pittsburgh, Canada), and at the time, they mentioned they would be testing for infectious diseases. I was hoping someone who is familiar with the current protocols could clarify what specific tests are run on donated blood in the US today and how long these standards have been in place. Thanks in advance!
Can anyone help me make sense of something? My sister has been using a digital blood pressure monitor, and occasionally it makes this strange, irregular beeping sound—like "beep... beep... beep beep... beep"—during the reading. Her numbers are consistently perfect, right around 120/80, with a pulse staying between 60 and 90. She’s only 29, doesn't smoke, doesn't drink, and is honestly incredibly healthy. She’s even had several EKGs done, and they always come back completely normal. When I check her pulse myself by feeling her wrist, I never notice any skipping beats or irregularities. So, I'm wondering: could this be a genuine sign that something is wrong with her heart rhythm, or is my theory more likely correct? It seems to happen when she accidentally moves her arm while the cuff is inflating, which might be triggering that specific error sound. She is extremely anxious about this, so if anyone with medical insight could weigh in, I would truly appreciate it.🤷

I dealt with a nearly identical issue about a year ago. It persisted for roughly a month, and during that time, I didn't take any action—aside from worrying my head off 🙏..—and eventually, it just resolved itself. It was likely some minor nerve impingement or something similar. That said, if this doesn't clear up shortly, I strongly suggest seeking medical advice.
I struggle with this exact same issue... honestly, I usually just force myself to swallow them no matter how much it hurts (it’s incredibly frustrating when you feel like you can't get them down)... because if there isn't an actual physical obstruction, it almost always turns into hypochondria. You start convincing yourself that you're going to choke on a pill, and then your throat actually starts tightening up from the anxiety...
just stay brave🙂
