Post-op recovery: Any tips? in Health ·
Hi,

I have surgery coming up soon, and honestly, the recovery part is what’s keeping me up at night. I had a procedure back when I was a kid, and it was absolutely traumatizing—not because of the surgeons, but because the nursing staff treated me terribly afterward. It left me with a massive phobia of the whole process. When I look online at other people's experiences with this specific surgery, it’s a total mixed bag. Some people say the discomfort is nothing compared to a broken bone, while others tell these absolute horror stories about being hooked up to morphine machines every fifteen minutes. Thankfully, I see more accounts of smooth recoveries without all the chaos.

What I really need to know is how to prep properly to speed up the healing process. Should I be tweaking my diet or drinking specific herbal teas or something?

For context, I don't smoke, I rarely touch alcohol, and I’m a vegetarian. I stay away from processed junk and anything loaded with chemicals and additives. I only take a few specific medications. All my pre-op tests came back perfectly fine...

So, if anyone has advice on how I can give myself every possible advantage, I would really appreciate it...

Today?

For days now, this forum hasn't been working during the evening hours. It’s the same old headache that's been dragging on for years.
Chrome and Sandboxie are maxing out my CPU in IT Support ·
You can just turn off auto-updates. If the current version is driving you crazy, why not just wipe it clean with Revo Uninstaller and roll back to an older one?

Have you even bothered testing it without any active extensions yet?

An adblocker can absolutely hammer your CPU if you've got too many lists running, which drags the whole browser down with it.

Honestly, Chrome works fine for me. I always stick to portable versions whenever I get the chance.

First off, kill everything running in the sandbox and wipe its contents clean.

Then, open Chrome normally—without using Sandboxie—and double-check that auto-updates are disabled and there aren't any conflicting add-ons or extensions causing chaos. If that doesn't work, just uninstall it and try the Chrome portable version instead; it's functionally identical.

There’s also the official Sandboxie forum where you can ask around; you'll likely get much better info there...

I've been using Sandboxie for ages, on both Windows XP and Windows 7. Never had a single issue.

Don't legitimate repair shops carry some kind of programmer to flash a working BIOS onto a dead motherboard?

I've heard stories about technicians fixing boards that were bricked during a botched BIOS update. That was mostly for desktop setups, though—does that same logic even apply to laptop motherboards?
mistyjackal842 said:I honestly don't get what everyone's upset about here. The guy decided to get a divorce because the marriage just wasn't working for him anymore. His kids are practically adults anyway. For his oldest daughter, he wouldn't even have to worry about child support since she's grown up and finished school. So, what is there to sue him for? Just because he had the nerve to leave you? I mean, I'm sure it would be nice if he stayed in touch with the kids, obviously. And as for splitting the assets, that happens automatically during a divorce anyway, so I really don't see the issue—unless, of course, you're just feeling hurt because he chose to walk away. At the end of the day, he deserves to live his own life too. So many marriages fall apart these days. Of course, it’s not right if some mistress is the reason everything crumbled. That's why, I guess, in this day and age, no woman should ever stay stuck at home and rely entirely on her husband.

I’d love to hear from anyone whose father bailed before they could even walk, only to vanish completely just to dodge child support payments.

Yeah, there are plenty of pieces of trash like that out there.

Growing up with a single mom, dealing with the stigma, the inferiority complex... you feel like a total outcast at school.

Years have passed, life has chewed me up and spat me out, and now I'm an adult. The system didn't protect me when it mattered; there was no compensation, no closure, and zero justice. I don't even know where that monster of a father is living now.

So, bottom line: if you didn't go through what I did, then your life is pretty much fine.

Just one more thing before I go...

I see Microsoft security essentials came pre-installed on this machine. Is this actually a decent antivirus for keeping parasites out, or am I better off installing something else?

Benjamin King2 said:From what I can tell, the price is alright—I ran a search limited to the $300 to $500 range, and honestly, that $300 option is technically better than your current rig, but it’s still pretty much useless. It’s worth shelling out $67 more if you want something that actually works. Try setting your search filter to something like $500-$200, and look for something with at least a Core 2 Duo processor and 2 GB of RAM—that should be plenty for just browsing the web and watching videos.

Fine, I went ahead and grabbed that Black machine you all recommended. The guy delivered it to my place today, got it hooked up, tested it, and everything seems fine.

To make matters even better, it came with a totally fresh installation of Windows 7 Ultimate. Everything loads instantly and runs fast—it's a complete miracle compared to that absolute piece of junk I was using before. 👍

Benjamin King2 said:Yeah, look, the Celeron 1500 MHz is pretty much the ceiling for that socket—not like you're going to see any massive leaps in performance once you swap it in. And honestly? Spending a few hundred bucks just to get an upgrade installed feels like a losing game when you consider what else that cash could do. You’d be much better off grabbing a used rig on Craigslist or eBay that’s actually a generation or two ahead of what you've got now, something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/example-link

I agree, that junk is basically ready for the scrap heap. It's nothing but trouble.

Regarding that link, is that actually a good deal, or can I find something even better for the same cash? I'm not exactly a hardware expert, so I could really use some pointers on what to look for.

Thanks... 🙂

George Sanders37 said:If you're just surfing the web, the processor is probably going to be your biggest bottleneck here. You might run into some lag when trying to handle things like YouTube, Facebook, or Flash games—it'll likely struggle a bit there.

I guess I could swap it out for something else, but honestly, who do I know that actually knows how to do that? I'll figure it out later.

Larry Ortiz5 said:I'm sorry, but I'm going to need a bit more info here—is the computer failing to power on entirely? Are you getting any specific beep codes from the motherboard, or maybe some error messages popping up on the screen? If we're looking at a hardware failure, it might not even be worth trying to fix it. $1.75 Just save it to that. And honestly, if you just need a fresh operating system, why not just ask a friend or a neighbor who knows their way around a computer to format the hard drive and install Windows or Linux? Just buy them a beer—it’s usually much easier than trying to figure it all out yourself.

It boots up fine, no errors whatsoever. It's running a Celeron 1200, has a little over 1 GB of RAM, and an Nvidia 64 graphics card. That's the extent of my knowledge.

It's got a floppy drive. There's also a DVD drive that supposedly works, and even a burner that won't open its tray.

I don't have friends or neighbors nearby to help me out, so finding someone to handle this is a bit of a headache. 🤷

Hey there...

I've got this ancient rig from 2002 that's completely dead. I want to slap a new operating system on it—specifically some version of Linux—just so it can act as a basic machine for browsing the web. Nothing fancy.

The issue is, I'm totally clueless about this stuff and don't know anyone who actually knows what they're doing. Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent repair shop or somewhere that won't rip me off to get this sorted? I realize the computer is basically worth nothing, so I'm not looking to sink a fortune into it. Honestly, if I had the cash, why would I even be messing around with this piece of junk in the first place?

So, what should I do? Any advice?

Thanks! 🙂

The forum was absolutely crashing tonight.

I swear, we need a serious domestic competitor to pop up soon, because this place is heading straight down the drain.

There’s zero point in putting on an act or pretending to be something you aren't. You just have to get good at spotting your own kind—you know, the people who actually see things the way you do.

Well, I can't do that, and frankly, I don't know how.
