tonka, it’s not even like I had a lump to begin with
it was just one of those things where they had to shave down about 1mm from every side to get it flush with the tip—and on one side, this "lump" popped up right away (though it was movable, and honestly, felt more like a fatty deposit), which actually vanished within a month or so; but on the other side, the bone itself—well, the bone tissue—basically thickened out, like a bony callus. It's this hard, unmoving protrusion now, and I really don't think it's going anywhere

just bad luck, I guess.
The only real options left are going back under the knife for another surgery or just "learning to live with the new bump" 😉
I'll make a call on it in about a year
Nancy Perez62 said:Mayo, things have gotten so complicated for you! I actually just scheduled an appointment with the same surgeon you saw, so now I'm feeling a little nervous myself.
Is your breathing any worse than it was before the surgery? And that bump—is it big, or more like one of those small ones that others might not even notice (the one you mentioned he said wouldn't go away)? Or what's the deal?

Yeah, exactly.
And look, I'm not pointing fingers at him—I've heard that stuff can be tied to how your own body reacts to having "bone tissue removed." But honestly, the bump is definitely there—it's not just something you feel "under your fingertips," it's a visible thickening on the bridge that shows up in photos and in person—you can see different profiles because it's sitting right on the right side of the nasal bone area.

When it comes to internal issues, I don't even know who to blame—the surgeon, or just the way time works...
But hey, I'm still being patient and holding out hope for some improvement...
electricorca19 said:This might sound like a totally silly question—but am I allowed to put powder on my nose and maybe give it a super gentle exfoliation? My skin is peeling just a little bit right now.

Honestly, you should probably stick to just washing your nose after surgery.
I actually used powder myself!
Carl Young57, I’m actually dealing with a super similar issue regarding that thickened outer lining—it really feels like my airflow is getting restricted...
And my technician keeps telling me everything is totally fine, just needs more time... blah blah blah... I honestly don't know if that's normal, since it's been 2.5 months for me already.

On top of all that, this little bump just popped up on the bone where they filed it down—something that definitely wasn't there before! He mentioned it's likely just new bone tissue forming and won't burst... oh yeah, I'm just *so* "happy" about that.
Carl Young57 said:Sorry I'm running a bit late with this reply... I was actually at the doctor's for a checkup about a week ago, and he told me everything with my nose looks fine for now. He basically said there's plenty of room in there—like, it should be totally clear. The thing is, though... it still doesn't feel like one side is breathing right. He suggested I hit up the local pool and try diving deep as much as possible to help clear things out? He also gave me some nasal cream and some Sterimar spray. It’s been almost three weeks since the surgery, and honestly, my nose isn't quite where I thought it would be by now. Or maybe I just need to give the mucous membrane more time to heal? Does anyone have any advice?

I'm still struggling to breathe properly too (had my surgery in mid-May, so it's been about a month and a half now)
especially on one specific side
plus, I can feel some thickening on the outer lining—since they did that cartilage correction on the tip (the narrowing part), which makes it even more noticeable—and occasionally, I can feel little bits of leftover suture poking through here and there...
It feels like things might be getting slightly better over time, but I definitely can't say I'm breathing like I should be yet...
rowdyfalcon35 said:I started dealing with them right after my surgery, and honestly, it’s been a year and a half of this constant struggle—the only thing that changes is how bad it hits me. Sometimes the pain is so blindingly intense I feel like I could rip my own head off just to make it stop. And don't even get me started on my running routine... I used to be so active, but now I'm just physically sidelined. It's devastating. Seriously, please watch who you trust with your health—if there's any way to avoid the surgery altogether, just do it.

But did you ever get your sinuses checked out?
I mean, how's your breathing been since the procedure? Is the headache intensity tied to how congested you're feeling?
restlesspanther42 said:rapidbadger7, I don't really have a headache, but there's this weird pressure right above my nose and along my cheeks. Honestly, though, our breathing feels totally fine—actually, better than before!
I honestly think this pressure is just from the lingering swelling... like, when I move my face at all, I can definitely feel it sitting there.
And man, if I accidentally touch that spot near my ear with a Q-tip, I get hit with these dizzy spells. It's wild.

Yeah, maybe "pressure" is the better word to use... I think for me, it’s coming from that stuffed-up feeling...
But it's already been "only" a month... at first, I didn't even feel it like this...
It's almost like over the last week or two, this pressure has started feeling way more intense...
(Could it be because of this heatwave? Like, does the heat make us swell up more?)
Has anyone else dealt with headaches about a month out from nose surgery? It’s this dull, nagging ache—kind of feels like sinus pressure or when you've got a nasty cold and everything is just stuffed up.
My nose is still totally blocked, too, so I'm basically breathing through my mouth constantly... and honestly, I have no clue if this is even normal!!!
silverorca6, how's the nose doing these days?
I seem to remember you mentioning that you were two weeks out from surgery and feeling pretty great...
How's the breathing?
So, I’m about a month out from surgery, and honestly? I can't quite say yet that I've stopped mouth-breathing...
Right after I use my saline spray, things feel just a tiny bit better, but then—boom—everything gets clogged up again immediately...
At this point, I’m seriously questioning if this is (still) totally normal or if something's off
I’ve got a follow-up appointment coming up soon, so we'll see what the doctor says

(I try to avoid blowing my nose, but sometimes it gets so annoying that I have to blow a little harder... otherwise, I just stick to using Q-tips)
restlesspanther42 said:Did any of you guys deal with crazy blackheads on your nose after surgery? For me, once the cast came off, they started popping up like crazy—I’m literally washing my face three times a day now! :O

Yeah, if you have oily skin... blackheads... luckily mine is super dry, so it wasn't nearly as bad for me...

So, yesterday I blew my nose really hard and now I feel like something's "off"—like I can actually feel these weird vibrations coming from one of my nasal passages... Is it possible I messed something up by blowing my nose (it wasn't even SUPER hard!) just 25 days out from surgery? (I had both the septum and the aesthetic part done)- oh man, I hope not!
restlesspanther42 said:I started bleeding right after taking my tampon out, and honestly, I feel like I can breathe way better now than I did before.

Wait, why go back in for another surgery?
Are you actually breathing easier?
Man, I swear I'm the only one who feels like their breathing has gotten worse... 😢
(It’s been about 25 days since the procedure... I’m trying to stay patient, but still... ugh)
Charles Fox8 said:He told me I wouldn't be breathing normally until next year—I had my surgery back in July, and I'm still just sitting here waiting...

Wait, so you've been waiting almost an entire year now? 😕
I mean, honestly, I'd imagine a three-to-four month window is more realistic—though, of course, that really depends on what kind of procedure we're talking about and if there were any complications afterward, right?
Have you been back for a follow-up checkup recently?
So, what has everyone’s experience been like with BREATHING AFTER (SETO) RHINOPLASTY?
Roughly how many weeks did it take before you actually started breathing better?
For me, it's been about two weeks now—and honestly, since the very beginning (well, except for that intense "breathing all the way to my brain" feeling right after they took the packing out), it's been pretty rough... I can't really feel any scabbing, but I still have stitches, and I've been cleaning everything regularly with saline (maybe I started too late once those initial scabs had already formed? It was day 5 after the packing came out...), and I'm using Neutrogena drops too.
I'm really curious to hear your stories—I've read online that breathing can stay difficult for several months after the surgery... maybe up to 3 or 4 months?
Has anyone else dealt with poor airflow at first, only to have it eventually improve until you were actually breathing "better than before the surgery"?
So, did any of you guys actually use those nose plasters during the first few weeks after surgery? I'm talking about something like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgA3TgVXUOA
Thanks... I’m just a little worried about the possibility of the doctor "cleaning out" those scabs next week...
I honestly have a gut feeling that might be what happens
I actually have another question too: since I had an open rhinoplasty with that incision on my columella, there's this tiny bit of "granulation tissue" left right by the stitch in one nostril...
How do doctors usually view stuff like that? Do they just tell you it's fine, or what?
So, I’ve finally (I think!) started up with the nasal rinsing
How often am I actually supposed to be doing this? I'm guessing the more frequent, the better—like, just trying to keep the mucosa nice and hydrated? Or am I totally off base here?
Honestly, my breathing isn't great right now. I know it's way too early for things to feel normal and that the swelling is still a huge factor, but still...
Right now, I’m just using a saline spray about every hour or so, basically whenever it feels necessary
But here's what's really bugging me: is it possible that those crusties I'm seeing are actually just scabs rather than the mucosa itself? (It's day 8 post-op, by the way.)
And if they are scabs, do they just... fall off on their own from all the rinsing? Or does the doctor usually have to step in and clear them out manually?
Betty Edwards22 said:Maxitrol.
.

Exactly.
So, a friend was telling me about her doctor's advice—apparently, he prescribed some chloramphenicol eye ointment, which is both an antibiotic and a corticosteroid, all just for prevention...
they actually put Maxidex on you
I know here in the States, they almost always insist on using an antibiotic cream (I actually went ahead and picked up some Betrion myself, though he didn't say anything about it specifically...)
Chris Moore3 said:It’s got this specific formula that basically makes your nasal lining dependent on it—like, you can't even function without it after a while! That's exactly why doctors say you shouldn't be using it for more than seven days straight.

So, when should I actually start doing the nasal rinses?
