It looks like somewhere in your VLC settings, there's an option enabled to automatically load subtitles from the internet.
I was wondering if the movie already has subtitles baked right into the video, or if VLC media player is automatically grabbing extra ones from the web to go along with the subtitle file you have sitting there separately.

Since our infrastructure relies on just a handful of major backbone hubs across the US, an IP address usually just points you to whichever regional gateway you're routed through rather than your actual front door. Sometimes it even shows me as being way out in 124 miles, which is nowhere near where I actually am.

Once you're logged in, you can either view the existing password or just set a new one. I really don't see what the issue is here.

Honestly, the easiest way to handle this is to have a friend swing by with a laptop so they can plug directly into your router with an Ethernet cable. Once they're connected, just type the router's IP address into a web browser along with the admin credentials. Once you've logged into the router's interface, you'll be able to see the current Wi-Fi password and change it if you want to, though it isn't strictly necessary.

If you end up in a spot where nothing turns on except for the fans again—meaning the PC won't POST and the screen stays black—then it’s pretty much a given that the motherboard is dead.

What I mean is you take a small scrap of wire, maybe about 4 inches long—ideally something flexible like a stranded wire—and strip a little bit of the insulation off the ends. You slide one end onto the black wire on the 24-pin connector, then just lightly tap the other end against the green wire. If the power supply is working properly, the computer will boot up. To be clear: you touch it, and then you move it away.

Are you serious? Back when I was busy fixing PCs, you were probably still in diapers. Think about what those two wires going to the power button actually do—they just bridge the black and green wires on the 24-pin Energy connector.
If you want to rule out a faulty power button, just pop the case open and briefly bridge the black and green wires on the 24-pin power connector. If the PC kicks on right then, you know the button itself is the culprit; if nothing happens, you’re probably looking at a dead power supply and should swap it out.
I’d suggest running a full RAM test using MemTest86 and then digging into the memory dump files through BluescreenViewer to see what's actually going on. It's also worth taking a close look at the Event Viewer to see if there are any other red flags popping up in the logs.
