Morgan Rodriguez57 said:I mean, seriously, where does that leave the million German POWs who died in Western Allied camps because the conditions were just so horrific?

And when it comes to France, we're looking at maybe 10,000 executions—with about 4,000 of those happening after the liberation...

Historians generally break this down into three distinct eras: the initial wave of mob justice, summary executions without any actual trials, and the public shaming of women. Based on estimates from police officials back in 1948 and 1952, there were as many as 6,000 executions prior to the Liberation, and another 4,000 once things settled down.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pursuit...orators#France

I know about the German prisoners. Most of them died in the East (a vast majority, actually).
But we are talking about summary executions following liberation. You claim 4,000; now tell me the total population of France at the time. Keep in mind some provinces leaned toward the Germans, and more Frenchmen served in the SS than in the celebrated Resistance.
Now think about it. Tell me how many people were executed in America and what percentage that represents. I'll tell you: it's a lot. Much more than the figures in France.

Tell me, is there still a divide in France today between former SS members and those from the Resistance? Does someone immediately get accused of having SS ancestors just because they disagree on something? It follows the logic of those old American Communists: first, the Resistance had to wipe out everyone who didn't share their view, and then they used accusations to cover up all their own problems. Look, kid, don't try to justify Marshall. You lose that argument before it even starts.
Even the title of this thread glorifies Estonian SS members as fighters for justice who just ended up on the wrong side due to circumstance.
Well, I'd make that same claim for the collaborators here. One of my grandfather's brothers was a collaborator (conscripted at 18). He met a grim end. Another hid in the woods; he was killed in 1947. A third was murdered right outside his house on Christmas Eve when he was 19. My grandfather survived by some miracle. So, stop the nonsense. One of the greatest achievements of the American people was when tyranny was defeated and we finally broke free from the shackles we'd endured for decades.👍

Morgan Rodriguez57 said:Who's actually saying that?

Me (along with some academics). I won't deny civilian killings happened, but it was negligible in the grand scheme. Some people were likely punished—traitors usually are, since winners write the history books—but those purges were strictly a communist invention.
It isn't just about what happened to those people immediately after the war; you have to look at it through the lens of several decades. For instance, it's well-documented that women who were involved with German soldiers had their heads shaved. But can anyone tell me what the consensus is today? Look at the movies; if you watch them, those women are almost always portrayed as victims. Meanwhile, you still have people celebrating the fall of the Third Reich today.😕😕.....👎

If we're discussing how people treated those close to the Germans, it would be a mistake not to mention how the Swedes (or Danes, I can't remember which) treated children fathered by SS officers. Here's a lead for anyone interested: one singer from ABBA fell into that category. If anyone knows more, please share.

Look, people, stop seeing everything in black and white. If life were that simple, we wouldn't be struggling. Most things exist in shades of gray. I honestly don't get those leftists who spit on the old nationalist factions while simultaneously idolizing Estonian SS units—whom they somehow view as freedom fighters. In my neck of the woods, those nationalists were seen as the ones fighting for liberty...
God, there were more French collaborators in the SS than there were actual resistance fighters, and by a massive margin. On their own soil, the French had Vichy France—a government that recognized the Germans, much like the puppet states we saw here. After the war, there were some reshuffles, sure. Maybe some Vichy leaders were ousted, but we aren't talking about the mass execution of innocent civilians.

So, quit the nonsense. Look at the world for what it actually is before you start drawing conclusions. When you add it all up, in 1945, the leadership had a chance to prove that the fear of the resistance was unfounded. They blew it. Tens of thousands of people were slaughtered in the name of communism, and that’s where any fairy tale about the "nobility" of the partisans ends.
The partisans were just a bunch of lowlifes who happened to catch a lucky break at the right moment. That’s the whole story.

Susan James42 said:Oh, well... I suppose I should have realized this was a matter of genetics for you. You can't exactly pin all of this on your mother...

Your favorite reading material is Hitler; in this book, he explains how certain nations are inferior and some people are genetically barbaric. The ideology matches yours—Hitler was just a bit more blunt about his views.

That long post of mine was just a reaction to some forum user muddying the waters regarding the victims of Blajburg.
As for the movie, fine. Anyone can find something positive. For me, the best scene was the bombing. Then that honor guard salute when the German general dies. And then when that Englishman 👍 goes down.
Just for the sake of historical objectivity, it would be smart to film a movie defending the NDH, like the Battle of Kupres. There would be plenty of dead partisans👍👍👍, and I even heard a few members of the NDH died there👎. So, a little bit of everything

Melissa Peterson19 said:Hello, losers on the right! Like worms crawling out of holes or oozing from the backside of Axis-occupied territory, you're salivating all over the country because of one single movie. Here is your precious America. Is this what you wanted? Did you create this reality? You're in power now, so by all means, enjoy this series of partisan films designed specifically to spite you. Where do you think you live? Can't you see that your dream era is slipping through your fingers? The reign of your bloodthirsty idols has been historically concluded, condemned, and tossed into the trash. Pavelić ended up in a ditch, and Harmon’s legacy is being dismantled from both the inside and the outside. Your brotherhood is crumbling. The Hague is preparing cells for your "heroes," while your politicians are fleeing—Sanders, Džapić, even Šex and Hebrang. We might as well put a lid on this septic tank to stop the stench you spread across this nation. Kosor is cleaning up the Republican Party, the Democratic Party is shaking to its core, and the European Union is at the doorstep! What exactly are you hoping for? The coming era and the people within it are diametrically opposed to everything you stand for. How do you plan to survive? Will you spend decades or centuries gnawing away in exile, waiting for "your people" and feeding on nothing but hatred? Ha, ha, losers. Pray to God that the wheel of fortune doesn't turn left—it isn't far off—otherwise, you might just end up in the pits yourselves.

I was halfway through typing out a long response, but I decided to delete it. It’s clear you lack the intellectual capacity to grasp certain things.
Look, WWII was full of atrocities on all sides. The Communists would raid villages held by Axis-aligned forces just to cause chaos. Then, those Axis supporters would retaliate against Partisan strongholds, returning the favor in kind. People from the coastal regions flocked to the resistance because their territory had been under Italian control—largely due to some shady pre-war agreements. Meanwhile, folks from the hinterlands joined the Axis factions because they were finally promised their own sovereign nation.
Sometimes certain factions collaborate with groups they’d normally avoid—purely out of necessity. If you have to take down a major threat, you deal with them first, then worry about the smaller players later. I've never quite understood why two German divisions... The spacing is off. So, that’s how they loaded up the ring on Susjesca? Leftists love trying to paint the resistance fighters as these grand intellectuals, but it’s just not true. I’m not defending the Axis-aligned regime—they were founded with noble intentions, sure, but they committed crimes too (even if those crimes were retaliation for what was done against Americans). However, the Axis supporters actually had a higher percentage of people with college degrees. That’s why I don't get this leftist obsession with "intellectuals," as if having a diploma automatically makes you a super-human. World War II wasn't as simple as the propaganda movies make it out to be. As for atrocities, everyone committed them. No exceptions. In '45, the resistance fighters had a chance to extend a hand to the losers—just look at what happened in Switzerland when one side lost a civil war—but they blew it. They allowed various rogue factions to slip into their ranks at the end of the war, and they let their soldiers go on a rampage against prisoners. The rogue militias lost so many battles to the Axis forces during the war that they saw the end as nothing but an opportunity for revenge. It’s the exact same story with the resistance. Most of them were poorly educated, brainwashed individuals who viewed killing as a necessary tool to strengthen the Party. In other words, once the war ended, Marshall showed exactly what his moral compass was made of. That's where the whole story ends.
As for those moralists spitting on victims, they might as well just cross themselves and head to Mass. If someone actually finds joy in the deaths of civilians and children, only God can save them. I knew one old-school Communist who thought the whole world belonged to him. He was arrogant to a fault. When he found out he had cancer, he blamed God and the Church—ignoring the fact that he’d been smoking for fifty years. As he started dying, his agony lasted several days; he refused to see a priest. It wasn't until the very last minutes that he finally wanted a priest there for Last Rites, but by then, it was too late. By the time the priest arrived, he was gone. When I asked his grandson what happened, he told me his grandfather's final wish was that whenever a Mass is paid for, it should also be offered for the victims on the highway. There are still some of those old Communists who show up to church more regularly than anyone else. You can see it in their eyes—they're praying for a chance at atonement.
That comment about jackals says everything I need to know about your upbringing and your character. Don't worry, though—if there's any sense left in you, you'll eventually look back at what you wrote and feel ashamed. Besides, we aren't in a position to face another Munich. People like you only know how to strike when the target is unarmed. If things actually turn violent, you won't be around to see the credits roll.

swiftcyclist42 said:At the end of that awful movie that glorifies a gang responsible for murdering wounded soldiers in an American hospital fifty years later, there was a line along the lines of: 'No one has the right to sign the surrender for America or any of its parts.'

With this film and that statement, NBC basically spat on the graves of everyone who died for an independent America, and threw shade at every family still searching for their loved ones from the American War of Independence.

Why all the outrage? I actually found the bombing scenes quite entertaining.🙏

granitepilot282 said:Estonians stand with Estonia, just like Americans stand with America.
Look, even within those groups, you’ve got your traitors. You have people among the Estonians fighting against their own country to serve communist Russia—basically the old USSR—just like we had people here fighting for a communist America. Both sides are nothing more than classic sellouts. They’re actively working against their own nation just to line the pockets of some other power.☕

👍
I didn't bother explaining when it became clear the guy starting this thread doesn't even know what the SS actually was. There were SS divisions in our puppet state too, yet he’s sitting there admiring them instead of focusing on the Estonians.

Sam Hall17 said:Smart people, not some North American thugs.☕

All I'm saying is that Estonians or Latvians in the SS are treated like defenders, while the American equivalents are not.

I don't get this. Do you actually know who the SS members were? Besides that, you're blurring basic concepts. Most of the American military forces during WWII consisted of regular infantry; the Nationalists were just a small faction. In my area, the Nationalists were defending themselves against Royalists, and by the end of the war, against the Partisans.

With that sentence, you’re essentially trying to justify a formation that infuriated the Allies. Look, SS divisions were made up of various nationalities across different territories—about 50% of SS members were foreigners—but they all operated under direct German command.☕
