Yesterday, the morning news had a massive headline—*don't take your kids to see penguins*
The film is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster—I found myself jumping around my living room from pure joy when those little ones hatched, waving those tiny flippers... then, I nearly fainted from the sheer sadness of it all...
Toco1980 said:Actually, I've been dying to watch Kurosawa's Yojimbo—it's the foundation for those Westerns like "A Fistful of Dollars" and "Last Man Standing"—but I honestly have no clue where one could even track it down... 🤔
I just finished watching *March of the Penguins*—it was quite an experience.
Brilliant. I’m not typically one to gravitate toward nature documentaries—they can be fine to watch, I suppose, but I rarely find much in the way of true cinematic artistry there—but this? This was a masterpiece.
Beautiful music—and the editing is just superb. Truly masterful direction.
King penguins have officially become my absolute favorite animals on the planet—nothing else even comes close. I’ve actually been seriously considering whether it might be feasible to keep one at home... maybe in the bathtub or the refrigerator? : ))
And I won't be mentioning *Riz* again—honestly, enough. It feels like we’re all just stuck in slow motion at home, desperately trying to nail our best moves. 😁
You guys have already listed most of them, so I won't go in circles... though, certain all-time classics are absolute favorites of mine as well.
While sipping my morning coffee, a few specific ones come to mind—films I personally adore, for various reasons...
James and the Giant Peach Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead The Crying Game Valmont (ah, a young Colin Firth... 😍 ) Catch-22 101 Reykjavik (I can't help but love the idea of casting Victoria Abril in Iceland; I have a feeling she’d melt the whole island... sheer genius)
That's enough.
Actually, I can't stop there. Every single Sean Penn film. Everything he's directed—including Runner Runner and that charming little short within 11'09"01 Cadre.😍
Sandra King86, hey—I have to agree—he looks great in all of them, though I really shouldn't be so quick to jump the gun and start swooning over him right away...
...we have to take it slow : ))) first, maybe suggest adding a little more hair volume—just so he doesn't look quite so much like a certain unfortunate soul from a bad sitcom—which was likely just an unlucky angle during the shoot...
...then, we could perhaps mention a few of those other James Bond candidates—you know, just to cast a bit of doubt on their chances...
...maybe crack a little joke about my own obsession with Daniel Craig, purely to lighten the mood...
In the end, she’ll come around—she'll probably even start whining about how handsome he is and what a total James Bond type he seems to be—you'll see : )))
I’m honestly terrified of the idea that maybe—just maybe—this guy happened to look decent in a single photo by pure accident, only for everyone to immediately start hyping him up like he's some kind of legendary hero...
Please—I am asking you—watch a film starring Daniel Craig before passing judgment...
It seems quite unwise to judge someone's acting range based solely on one single photo where he looks rather disheveled—almost resembling Darko Rundek (yuck!)—but go right ahead...
If we look at last year’s *Layer Cake* and *Enduring Love*, he actually managed to show some decent versatility there.
I won't bombard you with more titles—I wouldn't want to overwhelm anyone—though the film does feature quite a lot of imagery.
The only thing is, Orlando Bloom doesn't really capture his younger self... hmmm...
boldscout72 said:Since we're discussing Ward—honestly, The Undertaker always manages to bring me to tears. And his take on the Story of an artist isn't much different, really. I remember back when I was just a teenager, "Favorite T" by Lemonheads used to absolutely wreck me. 😍
Okay, let me correct myself—so many of Ward's things... well, all of Ward's work—really drive you to the edge. That’s just the honest truth. But I completely forgot about The Undertaker—I actually started tearing up just thinking about Led Zeppelin. 😢 It is truly heartbreaking—I honestly don't think I could hold it together. I actually asked my friends to take me out for a drink after the show just to help me snap out of it, if they happen to play that song...
You could list any song you want here—honestly—but if you ask me, that one is easily the saddest song in existence. :)))))))
The absolute winner has to be Matthew Ward—"Let's Dance"—it’s enough to make you choke up and call 911... followed by: Her Space Holiday - "Ringing in My Ears" Amorphous Androgynous - "Divinity" Death Cab for Cutie - "Company Calls Epilogue" Stina Nordenstam - "Keen Yellow Planet" Crowded House - "Fall at Your Feet" R.E.M. - "Final Straw" Leila - "Sodastream"
Oh man. I’m honestly going to start crying just thinking about it. Between Notwist's "Consequence" and Foo Fighters' "Walking After You"... I'm a mess. 😢(
I won't even get started on Nick Cave 😢(( nor James Blake, or Tinderstick.
Ugh, when I'm in this kind of mood, I'll cry at anything—even the beautiful stuff from Corker/Conboy, Four Tet, Murcof, and that whole crowd. Or Pixies. Massive Attack. Good grief, Lambchop. I used to be able to blubber like a child over them.
The final stage is just sobbing uncontrollably to Jon Spencer—at that point, you're heading to the doctor to ask for a prescription. 🙂
