Mercury Records at Aquarius? in Music ·
(I’m trying my best here—don't judge... I won't even bother getting the exact album title right at the start... because, honestly, who can remember all that stuff anyway?)

Look at this guy. First, he claims to be the only true fan of The Flaming Lips in Chicago. Then, a few people actually step up and say they're going. And now, suddenly, he's decided to lecture us all on what kind of music "those" guys play.

How lovely.

Give me some more options—throw in terms like fairytale, escapist, or whatever else... maybe something from The Soft Bulletin😁

Also, which other bands from the nineties were actually good—besides Radiohead or Nirvana?—so I know what to pick up.

My apologies. It is Friday. I worked both of the last two weekends—and I just want to get home and pass out. To make matters worse, there's this one person constantly calling for a *magical concert by one of the greatest bands in the world* every fifteen minutes. So, naturally, I snapped at the first person who dared to bring it up.

But I will settle the score with anyone else who dares to poke the bear on a Tuesday.😁
Who even watches NBC anymore? Is it the new networks? Or maybe ABC—I can't even keep track of them all lately.

Whether it's censored or not, Eminem just sucks.

It’s basically a no-win situation.
Ashley Brown81 said:They simply are not—truly. 😁 I wasn't particularly fond of their music—not really my style—but they were honestly quite charming people.

...except when he started blushing like that—all flustered—while he was talking a mile a minute. 😁

To me, those two women seemed completely out of it—I can't quite tell if they were just checked out, or if there was some underlying drama with their partners... I don't know. 😁

The film lacks any real cinematic substance—it is almost entirely musical in nature—though I suppose there are occasional flashes of actual storytelling. I happen to have a soundtree as well — though perhaps mine isn't quite as lively as yours.

Do you think I'm looking to leave your back riddled with bullet holes?

First and foremost—shut up and listen. I’ll allow for some light swaying in any direction—provided you aren't standing directly in front of me somewhere.

And if you feel the need to shed a few quiet tears, go ahead—that's fine too. 🙂

The Legend said:I really don't want to be at the concert alone.

Trust me—you’ll end up regretting saying that once you’re so overwhelmed by the sheer amount of flash and lights that you won't even be able to see—or hear—a single note from Mercury...

Good grief. It reminds me of how they used to hype up those local indie bands at the dive bars back in the day—it was constant... every aspiring actress, every pretentious artist, basically anyone who thought they were "somebody" in this city would flock there. It felt like the old club scene was practically collapsing under its own weight... while the owners just sat around chatting amongst themselves, totally indifferent to who was actually playing on stage. I expect the exact same thing this Tuesday. And honestly? I'll be bringing my raincoat.

At least—according to the copy I have sitting here.

🤣

I finally got my hands on the card yesterday! 🎉 🎉 🎉

Though—I simply cannot bring myself to try that Aquarius...

Jose Miller17 said:You absolutely crushed that game—honestly, you played like an absolute pro out there. 😬 😁 😁

I honestly thought I was losing my mind for a second—it really felt that way.

😬

Hana-bi — such a hauntingly beautiful piece of work. There is a certain quiet melancholy in the way the story unfolds—it stays with you long after the credits roll. 😍 😍

Sandra King86 said:There really isn't any reason to feel jealous. 😳 You can find the poster online for about $30—though the frame ends up being more expensive, which is quite ironic. 😬 😁

Honestly—I am just envious of the fact that you have such wonderful people in your life who give you such thoughtful gifts... 🙂

Sandra King86 said:I was gifted this massive, framed Nói Albínói poster—it's been hanging in my living room for two years now.

...and now I am officially envious. 🙏

I am absolutely enamored with that poster—even the landscape orientation. Everything about it. Though, I’ll keep this brief—otherwise, my grumpy mood might get me accused of being a total buzzkill at the local coffee shop again...

Adam Wright56 said:Well, it certainly is Christmas time.

You mentioned earlier—if I recall correctly—that it could also work for Halloween. 😢

But yes—it is definitely a Christmas movie.

If you ask me—and I truly believe this—we should be streaming those frozen Icelandic dramas all through December; there's just something about them that makes me feel warmer inside.

Actually, I wouldn't mind spending twenty-five days straight watching *Nói Albínói* either. 😍 😍

Jose Miller17 said:Well, it’s quite easy to argue otherwise...—though I suppose Joe Pesci might end up with singed hair if he isn't careful—but still...😁 😁 😁

Indeed—one could easily slip on some icy stairs and take a tumble. 😁

Wow.

There is actually a dedicated thread for movies we're embarrassed by—so, I'll just hand you your feathers and your little stick; maybe you can grab onto Joe Pesci with your other hand and head over there...

I'm sure you'll feel right at home. 😉 Definitely.

Even Home Alone isn't particularly funny.

So—I suppose we're all even now. 🙂

I’ll be donating feathers and a bucket of tar—just a small contribution, really.😁

For Christmas, I always make sure to watch It's a Wonderful Life—it’s become a long-standing tradition of mine—though I do try my best to ignore how much of an American cliché it actually is.

What can I even say? It seems everyone else had the exact same idea. 😁

Plus, I have to mention Nightmare Before Christmas... personally, I don't find it spooky at all; to me, it just feels purely Christmassy.😍
Forget about smoking with a Penguin... I'm actually here in Istanbul 😍 😍

Robert Cooper41 said:Well—given that Madonna has that classic, impeccable knack for picking things worth "pushing," she brought la Chapelle on for this new video—and that whole dance "Rice" thing (though, truth be told... she let him go halfway through filming due to "creative differences," but bits of it remained 😁 )

Actually, la Chapelle was *interesting* and "pushed" long before Rice 😁

To me, Rice is excellent. I should clarify from the start that la Chapelle isn't really a director—certainly not a documentary one—but rather (in my view) just a brilliant pop culture photographer in the most "lollipop-esque" way possible. It’s pink and artificial, just as it is.

The videos for Britney, Christina, and Lil' Kim—and no doubt Elton John too. Hello?

But his photos are insane. 😍

Getting back to Rice. I was absolutely terrified at first, thinking the entire film would just be about Tommy—just him and his crew jumping around in color, all set against an intensely blue sky and that sort of vibe.

But if we take his directing skills with a grain of salt—he did set up the problem quite well; he created a plot, a climax, and so on... you can certainly take a side and ponder the "how" and "why," all while people are dancing—and doing it in a Jaaaaaaaako interesting way. There are funny parts (the guy with the coffin shop is gold) and some sad ones. Did I mention... they dance in the meantime? 😁

I honestly cannot believe someone would label this a film where *only Black people dance*. Any film could be described that way. Like *the one where they ride horses*, or *the one where they just talk and walk a little*...

Back to the Documentary. Why don't they rotate the schedule? I've already had to miss Crossing The Bridge for two days straight 😢

I must admit—I felt a similar sense of discomfort when I read *The Butterfly Effect* mentioned earlier in the context of truly high-quality cinema... it was quite jarring.

It seems I can only offer my full support to my colleague—I find myself agreeing entirely. 😁
