Nah, it's just the same old story. 🙂

There's more to it too, man.

And this thread's been dragging on for, I don't know, days already.
I even messaged the sys admin. Total waste of time.
Then everyone acts surprised when the site goes down. Honestly, we should just be glad it's even running at all.
The whole "too many users, server lag" excuse? Yeah, I can shove that explanation right into my prayer book because I'm totally done listening to it.

Management is being straight-up irresponsible with everyone here—both the people paying for ads and the actual users making the content.
It’s honestly insulting. It just shows they don't give a damn about the regulars posting what everyone already knows, or the businesses paying to be featured here.

Sadly, it's just how it is. And honestly, it's high time the big boss stepped up. Instead of hiding behind admin logs bragging about stats and growth, maybe just offer a simple, human apology.

Alright, here's an extreme one that's probably gonna blow up the whole internet.

I was actually just about to start painting.
And seriously, if you guys are hiring people for marketing, maybe check if they even know which way is up.
Or is this some new trend where ads are supposed to look broken so people notice?

I don't get it. 🤷 Like, if it's such a huge deal to fix, I'm available. I can sort this out plus do some other site tweaks for decent money. Shoot me a DM for a quote.
I just don't see how the people paying for these ads don't realize how bad they look.

Do we seriously have to start crowdfunding the hosting again?
Maybe the owner should just turn the forum into shares, so we can buy out some subforums while he keeps his moderator stake and collects the hosting fees from everyone else.
Anyway, I'm putting an offer on the table to buy out the FBI subforum, but minus all those annoying birthday shoutouts.

Oh, and about this design...

This still isn't fixed, just like all the other glitches all over the site.
Should I email someone?
Is there even a sysadmin who needs to hear about this? Maybe the guy doesn't even read the FBI section.
Or do I just swear under my breath and keep clicking?

Btw, I didn't post this just so everyone could stare at it, I put it here so the sys admin would actually fix the bug. This thread's been up for three days and that damn ad is still upside down.
I get it when there's a massive issue that takes actual work, but this is such a joke to fix. Like, maybe a minute or two of effort.

It's fine that the boss wants to check traffic stats, new threads, and member counts. Looks nice and all. But man, you gotta show some appreciation to the users by making sure the site actually works and looks decent. If they handle our hosting with the same attitude as this issue in my post, then we know why the site keeps going down. It's just straight-up laziness from the people running things. Luckily the software this forum runs on is a beast, otherwise everything would've gone south a long time ago.

Seriously though, I wonder when that ad is finally gonna be fixed. 🙂

Don't go messing with my stuff or you're gonna regret it. Then maybe next time you'll actually bother to tune into NPR when they've got those heritage specials on.🙂

And since I barely touch IE or Microsoft Edge anyway... it's not really a big deal.

I've got an adblocker, but I guess I don't actually know how it works.
Whatever, honestly. Doesn't matter.☕

It's not an issue with FF, or Opera, or even IE.
The thing is, that ad is vertical when it should be horizontal.
So when ads randomly swap on the homepage and hit one of those vertical ones, the logo kind of glitches out...

ad muncher totally wrecked me lately. 😢 I actually liked that little thing. some nasty virus hit 😠 and apparently everyone's getting it now. my guy said it took like $150 out of him

The IT guys will fix that for free. 😬

I don't want to deal with ad blockers and all that crap!
And my boss is such an ungrateful jerk. We bring him so much money every single day, yet he can't even find a decent sys admin to stop this forum from having so many holes.

I guess I get that massive half-meter gap🙄 just in Microsoft, idk why.🤷

The sys admin would probably know why if they actually bothered to look.

Not even gonna get into availability.
Do we seriously have to scrape more cash together for hosting again?
Maybe if the boss turned the forum into stocks, we could all buy subforums while he keeps some moderator shares and collects everyone else's hosting fees.
Anyway, I’m officially putting an offer out to buy the FBI subforum, just minus all those annoying birthday posts.

Oh, and about this design...

I guess it just feels like the Resonator is totally overloaded.
Maybe someone should step in and clean things up because it's just full of clones and trolls everywhere... Honestly, nothing in politics has even changed in the last five years...

There is no Third option, backing out isn't on the table ☕

Maybe try reaching out again? Like, tone it down, show you get where he's coming from, and maybe find some middle ground.
Just settle it. You guys already acted tough enough, now just go grab a beer together.
🙂👍
But do it somewhere private, without all those people watching you fight. 🙂
Goodnight, everyone.

Matthew Anderson4 said:It isn't about whether he was wrong. It's about the fact that he hasn't explained himself yet. If you scroll back through the original thread, there's no real explanation besides "you made a pointless thread" (and there are tons of those on the site, like threads for new emojis, etc.). If he had just taken five minutes to say, "this is pointless because of X and Y," that would be fine. But he didn't even do that.

Look, I'm not getting into the weeds of the actual argument, even though I definitely have an opinion on it. I'm just not saying it because I'm not here to take sides.
I'm just trying to be practical here—either handle this via private message or just drop it.
Because honestly, you aren't gonna get what you want by making a scene in public.
And man, it sucks seeing you guys all acting like debtors on this forum. 😍

Are you acting like a moderator or just some random guy on a forum?
Because if you're supposed to be a mod, maybe you should take those cardboard boxes you hand out for posts like this and ask the head admin to throw them right back at you.
🙂

Most people can't stand authority. Some just learn to live with it, and others spend their whole lives fighting it.
But even the biggest rebels still deal with it, and honestly, true authority isn't about the title you hold—it's about having the actual qualities required for the job.
The admins are new, so I guess it's pointless to expect the thread starter to change this admin's mind. Since he's the new guy, he has to solidify his position, which means breaking through some resistance along the way. I mean, we're human, right? In that process of pushing back, maybe some innocent people will get caught in the crossfire, but expecting an admin to admit they're wrong is just wishful thinking. Admitting a mistake ruins the very thing they're trying to build by asserting control.
I'm not getting into the specifics here, and I'm not really judging if the admin's move was right or wrong or who's innocent. I'm just talking generally.
So, look at how things were on this forum four months ago:
- Not a single admin was around.
- Every complaint was handled however a moderator felt like doing it.
- The ones actually doing a good job just got lost in a sea of bad calls.
- Users would notice there was no "head" in charge, so every complaint turned into a total circus.
- Constant clashes between mods and users, with no higher-up to step in and settle things—usually siding with the mod, though sometimes with the user.
- That kind of setup creates uncertainty for everyone, because mods don't get backup for their calls, and users feel like "injustice" isn't being addressed.

Now, we have two admins. One is active and tries to answer every "call," and the other is pretty rigid and old-school (he comes from a strict military background 😁), but I think he's fair.

They both seem smart to me. They can see things from different angles and make a call, then actually stand by it.
And that's why they're admins—because they can own their decisions.

Will their decisions always be right? Probably not. There's always going to be a gap between what the admin deciding things thinks and what the user getting punished thinks, but one thing is certain:
It's better to have an admin making decisions and enforcing them than to have nobody at all.

Maybe we can just hope there are fewer mistakes and that, eventually, the need to assert dominance will "soften" enough to allow for some compromise. Until then, insisting that an admin offer a recognition of a mistake is basically just banging your head against a wall, because for the reasons I mentioned, it’s not going to happen (even if the admin knows they messed up).
So, my suggestion to you guys is just... don't push it. I wrote this hoping the admins might see it as a way to bring this discussion toward some middle ground without more bans or deletions, which could easily happen, and that doesn't help anyone.

Let the admins do their work. Honestly, they seem to be doing a decent job overall. Maybe try to get over being offended by a mistake and remember how much worse it was when they weren't here.
Let them finish their first 100 days. After that, we can start a thread titled "Rate the admins' first 100 days" so everyone can vent properly.

Anyway, I hope this adds something constructive to the conversation and helps cool things down a bit.
And which one, for goodness' sake? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
