Anonymous said:Would it be fair if fans weren't allowed to post on threads about themselves? Like the 1.5 thread?
🙏

It's not made public, but you just "know," right? Has anyone actually mentioned pulling something out of their rear end?
Yeah, sounds like your buddy waiting for you: Somewhere our little universes touch when I think you might be sleeping. The satin rustles, the darkness stirs, and like a wave, you find yourself swept up...
and the satin has prepared it for you...

See, there you go. Now that I say you're being rude, you're getting all offended.
But honestly, you just lack some manners. Not much I can do if that's how you are, I guess. 🤷

Thanks.

Hey Keith Cook2, I didn't put those words in my post because they were mine—I was just quoting other guys on here who talked to me like that.
So yeah, I respect anyone with manners, especially people who act civil. They don't even have to agree with me.

Keith Cook2 said:can I ask one thing? What does being a fan even mean to you? Let me introduce myself so maybe you can answer... I'm a professor with over 30 years under my belt, happily married, work as a tour guide, soon-to-be dad, marketing manager, licensed Red Cross lifeguard, honorary member of the Society for our child, and I write educational stuff for elementary students. I go to football games regularly, consider myself a fan, and I hate seeing city property trashed—property I pay taxes for. If anyone compares today's chaos in Warsaw or what happened at the Maksimir stands to this, I honestly don't know whether to clap or just walk away... But seriously, stop it. Everyone's a fan of something, whether it's football clubs, political parties, or pop stars! Please stop creating these myths and legends; it just causes media confusion and hides actual values behind fake sensationalism!

I've got this theory that most of the cops at Maksimir were actually fans themselves. So nobody wants to shut me up about fans.
I don't have a problem with fans, I just have a problem with people hiding behind the fan label just to let out their primal urges. But since I'm "condemned" as the opposition and labeled a cop or whatever, we aren't even talking about fans anymore, just me or you.
And look, I haven't said a single nasty word to anyone in this thread, yet I've been hit with a few insults that are just gross.
Whatever, I'll stay chill, you guys keep going. I just hope some of you have enough decency and integrity to tell someone from "your side" to get lost when they cross the line.
I don't see anything wrong with this discussion.
You're a fan, I'm a fan, or I'm an opponent. For crying out loud, can't we just talk?
Or can we not?
What do you think about trying to have a debate? Is it possible, or are we just gonna keep throwing arguments and going off the rails? 😛

Look, if there were any misunderstandings, they got handled exactly where they belong... right there.🙂

And who's your Clint? 🙂

So I guess making clones and spamming isn't considered messing with the politics mods' work then?

Just trying to settle the score with ZgSash..

It's about calling out the double standards and hypocrisy. If you actually knew who we were talking about, you wouldn't think this was all just some vendetta against ZgSash.

They have every right to do that. It's their subforum, they moderate it, and they decide how the discussion goes. They decided to turn the thread from some joke about fans into a serious discussion about Warsaw.
If you can't handle the bans or the way things are being discussed, go file an appeal through official channels. But instead, you guys made a hundred clones just to start an offensive...

.
No, they don't have "rights." They do it because Anderlon couldn't care less about what happens on this forum anymore. He doesn't have the time to check if his mods are acting like tyrants without any sense of fairness. Not that it's surprising—it's been like this since I joined—but this situation regarding the "fan violence" thread is so twisted it's hard to even stay quiet.
The people posting on the science board are actual scientists, so they aren't out here spamming threads everywhere... And the history board is full of historians, so they have no interest in starting wars with the admins over politics...

Classic trolling. And besides, those "scientists" on the science board don't act like idiots when it comes to actual American science.

So they can take advantage of a situation? Use a moment where the football crew tries to enforce their own rules, or exploit the chaos in other subforums if the football crowd gets mocked...
Give me a break, enough with the drama...

Not at all. They should use the chance to learn something about the fan scene, to have a space that the whole damn community actually reads, to get info firsthand. There are plenty of opportunities, especially when the big shots in the American fan scene are giving interviews to ESPN... but nobody gives a damn as long as they have Adler and you running things.

I can't really do much more than demand they get returned. If I could just fix it myself, I would.

If you actually had any clue who we're talking about, you wouldn't even think about pointing out double standards and hypocrisy by suggesting this was all done for some ZgSash guy.

I mean, the way they handled it was definitely right. Or maybe not, I don't know, maybe there were other ways to call out the hypocrisy.
.
No, they don't have the right. Well, maybe they do, but only because Anderlon stopped giving a damn about what happens on this forum ages ago. He doesn't have the time to check if his mods are just doing whatever they want without being impartial. But honestly, that's nothing new—it's been like this since I joined. It's just that this specific case regarding "fan violence" is so messed up it was hard to stay quiet.

Give me a break, you guys from the football chat are seriously trying to run the forum's politics now?
If someone disagrees with how a forum is moderated, there's usually a standard way to deal with that.

You're trolling, obviously, and spinning things too. On the PZ, they write about scientists, but they don't act like experts when it comes to American science.

Yeah, I'm trolling and spinning everything... mostly just because I disagree with you guys. If I agreed, I guess the trolling would be fine then, right?
Maybe try brushing up on your definitions, especially "trolling" and "discussion"...

No, it's about using the situation so people actually learn something about the fan scene, providing a space that the whole damn hardcore following reads, giving them a chance to hear things firsthand. There are plenty of chances to use the fact that big shots in the American fan scene, say, give interviews to the Monitor... but nobody cares when you've got Adler and you around.

Okay, so now fans are choosing radical ways to break the rules, and now someone's supposed to listen to them and find some deep, hidden meaning behind their aggression?
Forum rules should apply to everyone equally, whether you're a fan or a scientist. Just like US laws, though we've already seen that you guys like to act like a special breed that rules don't apply to. 😉

Keith Cook2 said:Good evening. As one of the moderators here on the sports forum, I feel somewhat obligated to address the recent call-outs and the criticisms leveled against those who primarily post there—most of whom aren't even bothering anyone else while they search for answers on this board...
Are you truly terrified of losing a tiny slice of virtual territory? People, this is just a website; we aren't guests in someone's living room, yet even here, there are basic standards for civilized, serious behavior. You seem intent on lynching certain fans, nitpicking every single thing they do in pursuit of a sensation, and then quite hypocritically employing those very same tactics to shield your own biases.
If anyone feels personally targeted, please just reach out to me via private message.
Furthermore, I stand firmly behind all the moderators, admins, and staff as they attempt to manage the scope of responsibility they've been given.

I mean, it’d be nice if the support actually meant something, like if they finally stopped recruiting clones on the threads you moderate...

granitefox16 said:So? What, should they just curl up in a corner and wait for another round of getting crushed in politics?

After that whole thread on fan violence, where you and your buddy steeleagle70 got absolutely shredded by arguments that were deleted as "off-topic" while your own garbage stayed up?

Such a shame I didn't grab screenshots to show the difference between the fans' actual points and the nonsense you, steeleagle70, and the rest of that crew were spewing—people who don't even know anything about the subject.

Today, Tom opened this thread specifically to call out the double standards, and the "kings" over in politics just banned everyone who agreed with him. Not to mention handing out 29-point cards to people who only needed 30 to get banned, all because they dared to criticize the fans.

And one more thing—since I'm one of maybe five guys who actually started the PDF fans thread here, which is currently the MOST READ thread on any subforum, I don't get why administration doesn't realize they have a massive privilege. The leaders of all the major American supporter groups are right here. To put it in perspective, it would be like having someone like Dickey posting on the science board and Josipović running the political section... we're talking about the absolute top brass of American fan culture.

Instead of using that leverage, they just ban people for having opinions that differ from theirs. It's stupid, pathetic, and pointless. And the admin, who I usually don't mind, is leading the charge on this, backed by nothing but two goons under his protection who trashed the fan violence thread. And let's not forget the incredible granitefox16.

I guess I don't really care if they bring back all my posts, as long as they also restore everything else on that thread and actually punish people properly. Including those moderator posts over in the football section... maybe.
I guess Tom might've started this thread just to call out the hypocrisy, maybe.

Just looking to settle the score with ZgSash...

The political elites just ban everyone who dares to agree with them. Not even gonna get started on those ridiculous 29-point cards they hand out to people who only need one more point to get banned, all while they're busy spitting on the fans. I guess.

I guess they have every right to do that. It’s their subforum, so they moderate it and decide how the discussions go. They figured instead of making the thread some joke about fans, they'd just make it about Warsaw.
If you can't handle the cards or the debate on this thread, just go complain to the mods. But no, instead you made like 100 clones just to start an offensive...

And another thing... since I'm one of maybe five people who actually started the PDF fan threads on this board—which, by the way, is currently the most read section on the whole site—I don't get why admin doesn't realize there’s a massive privilege here. We basically have the top leaders of all the major American supporter groups right here. It would be like having someone like Dickey running the science forum or Josipović running politics. These are the absolute heads of the American fan scene.

I guess the folks on the science boards are actual experts, so they don't feel the need to spam random threads everywhere... And the history guys? They're historians, so they probably aren't looking to start any wars with the admins over on the politics board.

Instead of actually using the situation to fix things, they just ban people for having an opinion that doesn't line up with theirs. It’s honestly so stupid and pathetic. I don't usually have anything against the admin, but he's leading the charge on this one. And I guess the only ones backing him up are those two absolute clowns he protects who completely trashed the thread about fan violence. Oh, and let's not forget the legendary granitefox16.

Maybe they'll jump on some opportunity? Like, if the football guys try to enforce their rules, maybe they'll just use that to attack other subforums if people start making fun of them... I guess.
Man, just cut the crap with all the demagoguery...

It’s obvious they're just trolling. This whole thing about Warsaw popped up like a total curveball compared to the actual discussion about the fans. And since the moderators over at the political forums aren't breathing down their necks, why not just let them take the ban?

Why would they get their bans lifted?
Maybe lift the bans and let them deal with the fallout then. 😳
Messing with a subforum, causing chaos, and spamming just to pick a fight with the admins...
It's pure spite. And if the admin backs down now and lifts those bans, then none of the rules on this forum actually mean anything because anyone could use that excuse for any violation.
Why should they get special treatment? 🤷

Nathan Bailey65 said:For one thing, I can’t bring myself to support any mods coming from the political side of things. It’s just a constant tug-of-war for me—it feels like everyone is positioned against my views, unless we're talking about specific stances held by Power or d@du, who haven't been around for quite some time now. 😁

But look, I’ll offer you a piece of advice... it seems pretty obvious that the "football" crowd has already started gearing up for a comeback. They're basically just sitting there, waiting for any excuse to strike back on behalf of the "fans."

Seriously though, man, if you keep going down this path, you won't have anyone left to actually post in the Football PDF section. 🤣

So, here’s my suggestion: lift their bans so they can actually participate in the Football discussion and maybe just issue some partial bans on the Politics PDF for, say, a few weeks...

.

I don't agree with some of them ideologically either. But what some of the football mods are doing is way out of line for decent behavior. They're making clones, plotting attacks on Politics from their private chats, and then bragging about using clones to mess with each other.
It's pathetic....

Looking at this latest wave of violence in the politics thread, it feels like an all-out war against the admin.
I get why users aren't happy with the admin's calls, but moderators who are basically picking sides in this fight against him should either step down or be kicked out.
So, I guess it’s about time we stop letting them delete troll posts and start handing them bans for the exact same stuff regular users get flagged for.

As for ZgSash, he's the first admin on this forum who actually responds to appeals. We finally have some actual oversight over the mods, where sometimes a ban gets overturned if a mod messes up.
The guy is reasonable—you can talk to him without him always having to be right or doing whatever you want—but he’s definitely one of the best admins we've had since this place started.
Maybe people should just show the admin some support and give him the ammo to get rid of these moderators who won't follow his policies (since they're too cowardly to resign themselves).

ZgSash, just keep doing your thing. You're doing a good job and it's about time things were settled once and for all.

After seeing this:

Just adding my name to the list of people who got ripped off online. I guess I'm just another victim of these internet scammers.
You see those ads with the adorable puppy pics and some sob story about how the owner is a missionary out in Africa, or maybe their kid died in a car wreck... just some tragic reason why they can't take care of their pet anymore. I guess.
He's offering you a free dog, I guess, but you still gotta foot the bill for shipping it all the way from Africa to the States.
I guess maybe just throw it in the trash. $333 I guess some shipping company just drops it right at your door, like... FedEx or something.

So I saw that thread where everyone was jumping on the bandwagon, and I guess it just goes to show people will pay pretty much anything.
I mean, it's all just about supply, I guess.
hollowtrucker77, times are tough right now. I guess you should just cut a deal with the mods to get rid of those useless posts. Maybe take a little cut and live like a king. Clients will show up eventually, don't worry...

With this many mods on staff, I don't think separating the good threads from the bad ones is even an issue. It would make sense if we were short-handed, but I haven't seen a single section like History or the FBI without a mod active all day.
It's better to just nuked a thread than to lose a decent one by accident, I guess.

I guess it's just personal opinion and doesn't really matter here. I was just trying to fix the idea that VB is why the forum is acting up because that's just not true. Honestly, with how things are going, the forum would probably run the same way on SMF or even phpBB, which is free.

Edit:
The main culprits blamed for the public panic Downtown were some random forum users. First, on Tuesday, March 16th, about twenty minutes before midnight, a user named “Imamdojavu” posted that for the American literature exam covering eight required works, students would have to choose between either Honoré de Balzac or Fyodor Dostoevsky’s “Crime and Punishment.”

Sophia Peterson93 said:Look, it's a huge forum, so it's just easier to run small daily backups instead of one massive monthly one that takes forever. Honestly, vBulletin can barely handle this, if you ask me. It's basically just a brand name people pay way too much for... I don't even get why they bother with membership fees when they could just grab some ads and pay for a server that handles double this load plus a dedicated backup server...

vBulletin is actually decent software for this stuff, and honestly, $180 is a joke for a serious, high-traffic forum like this—definitely not a huge expense.
Second, vBulletin handles big forums just fine; users shouldn't even notice a backup happening, especially around 10 AM.
Third, when the server goes down, an automatic message pops up saying it's under maintenance so people don't freak out.
Fourth, there've been two messed-up ads on this forum for a month straight that nobody's fixed. That's a clear sign of zero care, showing that the "service" issues aren't about technical glitches, but just pure laziness.
Fifth, the server for this site is funded by just a few days of ads for the whole year, so I highly doubt that's the issue.

Oh yeah, this drama with this forum has been going on for years. I guess we'll just have to get used to this mess.
