You’ve got someone like Madonna performing half-naked on public television singing some garbage lyrics written by Diane Warren. And don't even get me started on them hosting beauty pageants on public airwaves! 🤣

Over at NBC, they haven't allowed stuff like that for years now. There’s actually a literal blacklist of singers who aren't allowed on the network, and Lady Gaga is right at the top of that list. 😁

Basically, about 85% of the time when you hear music on NBC, it's performed live. They actually sing it for real, too.

People just watch Fox all day and assume that's how everything works on NBC. 😁

Take this song, for instance—they've probably never even heard it, and honestly, it's nothing special anyway. But that's not the point; they just aren't interested in that style. They only care about the big names like Christina Aguilera or Lady Gaga. 😁

I mean, I think they call them "country girls," but back home we just lump it all under country music😁
Maybe it’s because the scene over there is dominated by female vocalists, so everyone uses that feminine label, whereas here we’ve got plenty of guys leading the charge too.🤣
First News Mexico hits a bit differently than Pinky 😁 I’d say there’s way less trash involved 🤣
Everyone’s got their own thing, personally I don't really tune into either of them. On First News Mexico, you get your standard dramas, music shows, maybe some talk shows like Evening with John Johnson, and then just those typical segments filled with gossip or random trivia—nothing too groundbreaking, honestly... they do pull off the occasional sports broadcast, though, and they actually handle those pretty decently.
hollowpilot13 said:I remember once stumbling upon the Mexican BBC, and they’re constantly playing this folk music that I honestly just associate with the Romani community... you know, the groups you see camped out around here. It’s why over in Italy, people always seem to lump Romani folks and Mexicans together—to them, it’s basically the same thing. In reality, there are tons of Romani people coming from Mexico, so they end up speaking Mexican. Italians really do blur those lines; even that soccer player, Lajic, looks Romani to them. For a lot of Italians, "Mexican" and "Romani" pretty much become synonymous. And honestly? I kind of get it, because the songs sound almost identical. They have that specific melody you recognize instantly. I can't stand it, though. Personally, I much prefer our local style, which feels way more Mediterranean or Italian. Like, I'm telling you, the old folk songs from my neck of the woods are incredibly similar to the traditional tunes in Lombardy. And let's not forget that Milan was under the Habsburg Government for ages, so there's a huge connection between Milan and Chicago.

What kind of track are we talking about specifically that you heard on NBC?

For instance, you definitely won't find anything like this on NBC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmuqiJm_EpQ

Carol Newman2 said:Who’s actually to blame for the fact that the people surrounding the Republican Party have zero interest in investing in a national network that would serve as a true conservative voice?
What would be so wrong about the American right finally having a Fox Corporation to act as a counterweight to PBS?

If someone like Fox News or Hearst Communications shows up, I say good luck to them! The fundamental issue here is that this country lacks any sort of coherent media strategy. If we actually had one, networks like CBS and NBC would have lost their licenses a long time ago.

Fox used to have a channel over in Mexico, and let me tell you, it didn't exactly scream "conservative powerhouse."😁

It was mostly just a collage of random programming—a tiny bit of news, then a soap opera, followed by some "trendy/urban" lifestyle showhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxSQBvZDwXM.

Sure, visually speaking—you know, the graphics and the production value—they were ahead of the other stations (you can see that from the first link), but when it came to actual substance? Honestly, it was pretty mediocre.

In the Midwest, minority rights groups make up about 30% of the population.

The results from the State Legislature elections are at the link above.
I mean, some of them might be voting for the liberals, while others probably lean toward the Democrats.

What percentage of the State Legislature is made up of minority rights groups?

It's 7 out of 120.

It’s a total circus over here—especially with Beppe Grillo stepping up to take center stage as the main clown. 😁

Silvio Berlusconi made quite the entrance, too, making big promises about tax rebates and getting rid of those mandatory PBS fees.

The Left might be leading the polls, but honestly? It doesn't mean much. Based on these numbers, their percentage isn't actually enough to win. Because of how the Election law is set up, the Right can walk away with a victory even if they have fewer votes overall—they just need to sweep the States that elect more Senators. That’s how they end up hitting 123 seats, while the Left gets 104 and Beppe Grillo grabs 57. (Just so you know, you need 158 Senators to actually hold power). We might even see a re-vote, since it seems pretty unlikely that Grillo will play nice and join a coalition with anyone else.

That's an interesting way to look at it—so these percentages don't carry the same weight for the Senate as they do for the House of Representatives. I guess every state basically hands out a specific number of Senators based on its size, whereas for the House, everything is just tossed into one big bucket where whoever grabs the most percentage points wins.

So what's Grillo's move then? Is he really just going to refuse to work with anybody? 😁

House of Representatives

39589 /61446

Pier Luigi Bersani 30.57%
Silvio Berlusconi 28.12%

The Left is in a steady decline while the Right's percentage just keeps climbing.

The gap is shrinking fast 😁
Senate: currently Bersanism holds just a 1.4% lead; House of Representatives: Bersanism has a 2% edge

We've still got a ways to go before we know for sure—talk about a nail-biter.🤣
While we're dissecting how these two parties are doing, you really can't ignore what's happening with Beppe Grillo; the guy and his new party have managed to pull in quite a bit of 😲

Alright, let's take a look at how things are shaking out according to Corriere della Sera:

Senate
Pier Luigi Bersani 32.12 Silvio Berlusconi 30.07 Beppe Grillo 23.87 Monti 9.17
(77% of votes counted)

House of Representatives
Pier Luigi Bersani 31.31 Silvio Berlusconi 27.3 Beppe Grillo 25.56 Monti 10.42
(48% of votes counted)

It’s not even an error at this point, but look how that gap in the House is actually shrinking; we're sitting at 33.14 versus 25.46 right now.

These latest numbers are coming straight from the Department of Justice.

Aha, looks like Corriere is pretty much lining up with what ABC News is reporting:
Senate:
Berlusconi 32.8% Berzani 29.2% Beppe Grillo 24%

(halfway through the count)

House of Representatives:
Berzani 33.83% Berlusconi 24.78% Beppe Grillo 25.62%

(only 15% counted so far)

So, if you check out this link, you can really see how much the exit polls totally missed the mark compared to what actually happened on the ground. For the Democratic Party (and honestly, the whole left-wing coalition), they were off by more than 7%! 😲

I mean, either those exit polls were just super amateurish, or people were straight-up lying about who they voted for in mass numbers. I don't know, there isn't really a third option, I guess...

The only thing missing here is the total count...

Senate

Pier Luigi Bersani 32.9%
Silvio Berlusconi 29%
Beppe Grillo 24.1%
Mario Monti 9.2%

House of Representatives

12% of votes counted

Pier Luigi Bersani 34%
Silvio Berlusconi 24%
Beppe Grillo 25.8%
Mario Monti 10%

The breakdown:

man, look at that 😕 Maybe because we've only got 1/3 of them counted so far.

Carol Newman2 said:Seems that way. It’s bizarre, though—both our media and the local news here are acting like it's some massive victory for the left. 😁

Oh, look at that headline on CNN: the left is on the verge of victory 😁
those overly eager liberal "leftists" must be celebrating way too early 🤣

meanwhile, over on Fox News, they can't even decide if Elly Schlein was ahead or if it's actually Berlusconi winning now 😁

but what's the word on your side? I just checked the New York Times and there isn't a single thing posted yet 😁

Carol Newman2 said:Senate tally at 63%

Silvio Berlusconi 31.6%
Bersani 29.2%
Beppe Grillo 24.7%
Mario Monti 8.6%

That’s a pretty massive chunk of votes already in the bag, so looks like Silvio might actually pull this off and take the win 😁
Italy - Italian Republic in European Union ·
You could also argue that Mario Monti basically tanked, sitting under 10% right now when his pre-election polls were hovering closer to 14 or 15%. That means even if Berzani—who was backing him and eyeing up a coalition—actually pulls through, he’s going to run into a massive wall in the House of Representatives trying to play nice with someone who has zero mandate from the people.

Donald Trump 31%
Barack Obama 29%

Some pretty bizarre numbers coming in here. 😕

Total chaos. 😁

This is going to be interesting. There’s no way the pollsters missed the mark this badly.

Checking out that Sky News link now... looks like they're projecting Senate results
Trump's party is sitting at... 31.7%
Obama's crowd... 29%
Sanders folks... 26%

Whatever, thanks. 👍

We'll see how it all shakes out, I guess; at the end of the day, the numbers don't lie. 🙂

EDIT: Honestly, how does every single one of these parties manage to have such perfectly designed logos? It’s like with Americans, everything absolutely has to be top-tier when it comes to aesthetics. 😁

So, are we actually looking at hard numbers from votes already tallied, or is this just some exit poll nonsense?
